Endless Evolution: Last Star-Chapter 788: Choosing Sides (Part 2)
Amplifying monsters with just drops of blood, full of energy was an impressive display of power, but the Phantoms weren't greatly surprised, they expected that the Overlord Type was capable of this and even more.
But...
The Crimson Monarch's following statement planted doubt in the Phantoms. The people couldn't believe what they heard.
Could they have received an award from the Crimson Monarch? It seemed like nonsense, still, the Crimson Monarch's aura and his status made him trustworthy even to his enemies.
The phantoms looked at each other. No one knew what to say. On the one hand, it was utter madness, after all, the Crimson Monarch was their enemy, he was a monster, yet... his offer might involve more than strength.
One Phantom, a young man with disheveled hair and blades at his belt raised his hand uncertainly, drawing attention to himself.
"Don't get me wrong, but... maybe we should at least discuss his proposal?"
A lot of disapproving looks flickered in his direction, but some were full of doubt, it gave him hope that they would want to listen to him.
"Perhaps if we give him Adam, he will spare us. I don't know why, but for some reason, this monster needs Adam alive."
Slash.
The wide, heavy sword with gilded blades sliced him in two in one wide top-to-bottom swing.
It happened so fast that the young man didn't even realize it, there was no fear of impending death on his face, just a past uncertain expression.
Thump.
The two halves of his body collapsed to the ground, drowning in a pool of blood.
Then, all eyes turned to his reaper - Viron who with a cold face towered over the slain youth, his gaze grim, full of ruthlessness.
He stepped forward, crushing the young man's head with a mighty stomp, it now had a value to him lower than trash, drops of blood dripping off the broad blade of his sword.
"I address all Phantoms in the fortress and outside the walls, Operators make sure that everyone hears my words."
Under the shocked stares of Gnash and Katrin, he pointed his sword forward, pointing at the crowd ahead.
"We are Phantoms, we fight against monsters, an alliance is unacceptable. This is a trap only an idiot could fall into. That monster said none of us would see the dawn, and some of us got the idea to give up our best fighter for the ghostly hope of survival..."
Viron narrowed his eyes as if trying to get into the mind of every Phantom standing before him.
"I hope there was only one traitor among us. But... I swear, if I find out that someone shared his thoughts, I will find that person, even after we return to the Citadel. I will come after you and slaughter you like fucking pigs."
His gaze filled with hatred and cruelty, a dark cold aura spread like a plague, instilling fear in their hearts.
"A Phantom who betrayed the Citadel, humanity, and ultimately himself, worse than a monster, worse than trash!"
Hardly anyone expected a bloody scene to occur within a minute of Adam and the Crimson Monarch clashing in the fortress, yet Viron's speech was menacing but effective.
The main reason for his success was not only his threat but that he was right. It was unlikely that many Phantoms would choose to follow the young man, but Viron reduced that probability to zero.
Katrin gulped, she silently watched Viron, even though she felt her heart clench.
'Shit... I didn't even notice his movements, even though I was standing only a few meters away. He didn't think for a split second. Once that Phantom said too much, Viron killed him...'
Killing a Phantom was a serious crime carrying a harsh punishment of the highest degree, measures much harsher than a Phantom killed a regular human, when it happened to Adam, followed by imprisonment.

However, if the Phantom killed a traitor to humanity, he was no longer a bloodthirsty murderer - he was a hero, a guardian of justice.
Then, Katrin looked at Adam, trying to get out of the electrical grid.
'Come to think of it... He killed some Phantoms back in the day too, didn't he? They were from the Lower Ring, still... I remember that record, there was no pity in his gaze.'
She realized that at times she lacked the determination and ferocity, pure and unstoppable, that not even monsters were capable of, only humans.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
At the same time, dozens of monsters that had received power from the Crimson Monarch ran in Adam's direction, shaking the ground with their powerful stomping.
"Fuck! Why is it so solid!"
Adam gritted his teeth as he tried to cut and tear through the electrical discharges, but there was no way he could succeed.
Oddly enough, Lone Blaze was calm. It wasn't thinking about how to get out of the net but about their victory scenario.
[Adam, it's not worth the effort. Once the monsters get close, then he will remove the net, otherwise, the monsters won't be able to reach you. We should focus on the other problem.]
"Argh?" Adam grunted with an annoyed expression, "What are you talking about? My biggest problem is this fucking net!"
[No... It's your needle. As long as the Crimson Monarch is using his gauntlets, you're unlikely to get him. You need something faster and you have it. Just trust me, once again.]
Before Adam could reply to anything, the shadow of multiple monsters fell on him.
At the very last moment, the Crimson Monarch waved his hand, just as Lone Blaze spoke, the electrical grid disappeared, allowing the monsters' claws to reach Adam.
Lone Blaze's words reached Adam's mind, the corners of his lips went up, forming a sly smile.
Blast.
The flaming burst tossed a dozen monsters aside, it wasn't enough to kill them, they got much stronger.
The fire wing spread wide as the needle fell out of Adam's hand, giving up its position as the main weapon to his Nexus.
However, the needle didn't disappear, the flames completely covered it, presenting it under Lone Blaze's possession.
"Hah... That's clever..."
Adam's eyes reflected his needle, one thread from his wing was tied tightly around the hilt, allowing Lone Blaze to have a proper weapon in its arsenal and give Adam more freedom of action.
