Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 213: Eternal darkness
The next day.
Contrary to the sunshine that Esme was expecting when she opened her eyes, all that greeted her vision was darkness. The same stars, the same night sky that she saw through the windows before she closed her eyes.
She rubbed her eyes, stretching her body, ’’Hm... Did I wake up early?"
Since she had sleep difficulties and she was pestered by meaningless dreams, she usually slept during the dawn and unless someone woke her up, her eyes would open after noon.
She glanced at Luciana who was sleeping peacefully on the other side of the bed.
’’...Maybe I woke up early,’’ Esme mumbled as she laid down on the bed, her gaze shifting towards Leo who was sitting on the pillow with his eyes open, ’’You are awake as well...’’ she blinked, sitting up on the bed yet again.
Right at this moment, her ears picked up the sound of approaching footsteps from outside. Around 6 people were approaching in the direction of their room.
’’Lucy, wake up... Lucy..’’ Esme shook the woman who rolled to the side. Left with no choice, she pinched the back of her neck
’’Oww...’’ Luciana winced, rubbing her neck as she blinked in confusion.
’’What happened?" Esme asked innocently.
’’It hurts. Do they have bugs on this bed? Did I hurt myself while sleeping?"
’’Maybe you did,’’ Esme shrugged, ’’There are people outside our room.’’
’’What?" Luciana sat up on the bed, more awake by the piece of information.
’’And I think they are here to assassinate me in the middle of the night,’’ Esme said.
Luciana frowned, ’’How do you know?"
’’I can sense them. I can hear their footsteps.’’
’’You can? How?’’ As far as she was concerned, Luciana could not hear anything at all.
’’Is that what you should be worried about?"
’’Then, shall we jump out of the window?" Luciana asked after a moment of contemplation.
Esme frowned as she pulled Leo to her lap, ’’Then, you hold the trunks. I will hold Leo.’’
Luciana glared at the selfish woman, ’’You want me to be crushed under the weight?"
Before they could argue about it any further, there were consecutive knocks on the door.
Esme pushed herself to her feet.
Luciana grabbed her hand.
’’They would not assassinate us so politely by knocking on the door...’’ Esme mumbled, trying to console herself.
The door was pushed open and both the women turned alert but they stiffened when six beautiful women stepped inside the room.
They were donning similar white costumes that Esme saw the maidservants from yesterday wearing.
’’Today is the first day of the blessing ceremony. We will aid you both,’’ they said, bowing their bodies slightly.
They were all holding huge gold salvers and Esme walked towards one particular maid, picking up an olive silk gown from one salver, ’’You are here to help us?"
As the maid nodded, Esme observed the gown, ’’This is beautiful.’’
’’This was sent by His Highness for you.’’
Esme turned to look at Luciana, ’’For you, she means.’’
Luciana raised a brow.
’’We can help each other. You all should leave. We would see you in the morning,’’ Esme said.
’’But it’s already morning. It’s almost noon.’’
"..."
...
As it turned out, the dusks and dawns around the Dark Castle were all enshrouded in darkness.
There was no morning sun. Only eternal darkness.
Esme felt suffocated.
She loved the night and the night sky. But living here in this Castle with the possibility of being assassinated by the God, the never-ending night made it scarier.
In the back of her head, Esme felt like that man did not forgive her for her impudence.
He was holding a grudge and waiting for his son’s blessing ceremony to be over so that he could kill her off.
But despite all her discomfort, she knew there was no way out of this.
Esme left Leo inside the room with a warning, ’’Stay here and don’t wander around. There are all bad people out there. They might hurt you.’’
Leo nodded obediently.
Luciana blinked in disbelief. This creature... they hailed him as a god. What was he scared of?
She wanted to tell Esme about it but then she did not want Esme’s follow-up questions which would go like—How she met Leo? How is Leo a god?
Every link went back to Aleister.
Both Luciana and Esme put on sheer veils on their faces to keep their identities hidden before they left the room.
As they were being escorted by the maids to the night court, Esme leaned towards Luciana, ’’I don’t want to do this,’’ she tried to hand the trident over to Luciana.
Luciana dodged it, ’’His Majesty has said that it has to be you.’’
Esme frowned, ’’Lucy...’’
’’Es... If something goes wrong, then I will take over from there,’’ Since Luciana was not certain why the King wanted Esme to represent the blessing ceremony on their behalf, she did not doubt his decisions.
In the past year, whenever asked about her powers, Esme always said that she could feel her powers but she did not understand how to use them.
To a mermaid, using their powers should be like breathing. But Esme was unable to do it.
Maybe, this opportunity will serve as a breakthrough.
As they stepped inside the night court, the crowd’s attention shifted towards them.
Under the starry sky, the maids escorted Esme and Luciana to the chairs on the right side of the court.
Luciana’s gaze flitted across the court which was filled with people.
"See there...’’ Luciana tugged at Esme’s hand.
Esme followed the woman’s gaze.
"They are the representatives of the main gods,’’ Luciana whispered, ’’The young boy who is wearing a crown is representing the God of Light who has been cultivating for a long time.’’
Esme was puzzled, ’’How do you know?"
’’The crown he is wearing.. it is called the holy crown and it represents the light castle,’’ Luciana said.
Esme was intrigued, but she was amused at the same time, ’’You were such a little thief when you were younger. That certainly enlightened you in these matters.’’
Luciana glared at the woman, ’’If you mention that, I will not tell you about anyone else.’’
