Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 234: Sly King
’’How did it go?" Rezeph grabbed the trident from her hand before throwing it onto the bed.
Esme’s jaw dropped as she stared at the man, wide-eyed. It took her a few moments to regain her composure, ’’It went well. Lucy handled everything and I am so relieved that you sent her with me...’’
Rezeph rolled his eyes, ’’Keep those lies for your in-laws. Did you feel uncomfortable after using the trident for the first time, precious?"
And just that, Esme felt like her soul flew out of her body.
It was not the first time in the night that she felt shocked, ’’I... I didn’t...’’
Rezeph narrowed his eyes.
Esme’s shoulder slumped, ’’How did you know?"
Esme did not think she acted suspicious or she let anyone feel that she was hiding her abilities.
She barely used her powers all this while.
"I thought I...’’
’’That you hid it well?" Rezeph clicked his tongue, ’’You did well but I would not be sitting on the throne if I could not see through your little tricks.’’
Esme lowered her head.
Rezeph extended his hand to flick her forehead but when she closed her eyes, readying herself for the pain, he sighed.
Rezeph poked her forehead with the tip of his index finger.
Esme blinked at the man.
’’Do you not trust me? Is that why you desperately wanted to hide your abilities?"
Esme shook her head. He was the King. There was nothing he could get from her and other than that, she trusted him.
’’I thought if I could fool you then it won’t be difficult for me to fool others,’’ she told him honestly.
Rezeph laughed, ’’This is the first time someone is telling me they wanted to fool me,’’ Shaking his head, he continued speaking, ’’I always knew about your abilities since the day I laid my eyes on you. You have healing abilities, you have sharp senses that help you hear things from a distance, and... you can control minds for a short time but you haven’t mastered this power yet.’’
Esme listened to his words with her jaws slack.
’’The rest of your abilities fade in comparison to these three,’’ Rezeph concluded as he sat on the bed, crossing one leg above the other, ’’So, how did it go in the heaven?"
This time, Esme told him everything without beating around the bush. She told him that she felt overwhelmed by the power of the trident at first but the longer she used it, the more she got accustomed to it.
Esme also told him about people observing her every move, including God Atlas.
She recited everything except for her encounters with Aleister. Even though she refused to call him father but he was like a father figure and she did not know how to tell him that she...
Esme gulped, refusing to let her face feel hot at the reminder of that night.
Not that she would ever see him again.
The thought of it made her stomach twist in a sickening sensation.
’’Here. Take this with you,’’ The King’s words snapped her out of her daze.
Esme did not notice when he stood up from the bed and went to the trunk but as he approached her with his extended hand, she noticed a small crystal ball lying on his palm.
It was the same crystal ball that Luciana gave her when she woke up with no memories. Luciana said that she had tied it tightly near the hem of the gown.
And later when Esme moved to the Castle and got to know Rezeph, she pleaded to the man to look into its origin so that it could help her know more about her past.
The King never brought it up again and Esme thought he was still looking into it.
But now that she had decided to let go of the past... did he finally find something about her?
Esme’s fingertips trembled as she slowly received it from his hand, ’’Did you find something?" she did not know what she was feeling.
Curious? Scared?
Why did this have to happen when she was determined to not think about the past?
’’It is an ordinary crystal ball,’’ Rezeph said after a moment.
Esme blinked, ’’You did not find anything,’’ she mumbled.
As he remained quiet, the room sunk into silence until he spoke up again, ’’I am certain that you heard about Jeremiah. Won’t you ask me to release him?"
Esme pursed her lips, shaking away the unpleasant thoughts.
Rezeph smiled, ’’I didn’t want you to grieve in a corner. That is why I waited for your departure before I punished him. But I still expected you to be angry for him. Yet here you are, catching me off guard with your calmness instead,’’ the amusement dancing on his face could not be more evident.
’’I am upset but I know you are the doing what is good for this kingdom,’’ Esme said with a soft sigh, ’’But I will be happy when I get to see him.’’
’’I’ll let him out if you ask me now,’’ Rezeph said.
Esme’s eyes narrowed, ’’That is your decision to make, Your Majesty,’’ she knew the man was trying to trap her by making her ask for a personal favor.
So sly.
She rolled her eyes.
’’You don’t love your fiance at all. Poor man,’’ Rezeph’s amusement shone brighter, ’’If you are leaving it up to me, then he won’t be coming out anytime soon.’’
Esme sighed, ’’Do as you deem fit,’’ she whispered, relieved that Jeremiah was at least not in prison. He was in the Norwell manor, cultivating his powers so that meant, he was doing good.
At that thought, she glanced at the man again. She needed to ask him to let Luciana move here.
’’What? You want to ask for a favor?" he asked as if he could read her mind.
Esme’s lips thinned, ’’I just wanted to tell you that I will live in the sea from tomorrow.’’
’’Hmm?" The smugness was wiped off Rezeph’s face. The tall and broad man suddenly looked like a child who was about to throw a tantrum, ’’You aren’t going anywhere,’’ he said sternly.
