Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 296: A mer’s body
’’When you are back to the heaven, you will be stripped of your position,’’ a trail of blood escaped from the corner of his mouth and Cardan’s face turned increasingly pale.
’’Your Highness!" the man dropped to his knees, ’’I have been loyal to you since you were a child. The first elder of the witch clan who discovered this spell passed away months later. Knowing how severe the consequences are, how could I stay composed? These mortals... are greedy and ambitious. They are using you.’’
Cardan pushed himself to his feet, staggering in his steps as he strode out of the swamp.
The guards rushed to hold him but he waved his hand.
’’I am not the ancestor of the witch clan. I am Atlas’ son. I won’t die from some pathetic spell,’’ his lips curled in disdain.
’’You are my Master. How can I bear to see you being used by these people? The moment she got what she wanted, she left. Your Highness, you suppressed your pain on purpose. The spell burns every inch of your body from the inside. The pain is so excruciating that people pass away while casting the spell. Yet you held back until she was out of your sight...’’
Cardan shot him a glare.
’’Shh,’’ he leaned back on a tree and gradually slid down.
’’Your Highness!’
’’I would have killed you right here for your audacity but then again, I just realized that you are a pitiful old man who does not know what love is,’’ Cardan looked at him in disdain, "Had you known it, you would have understood that for the lovers, pain is a pleasure."
The old man: "_"
The rest of the guards looked at each other awkwardly. They were just concerned about his Highness. Did he have to target their dry love affairs?
Cardan looked up at the rays of moonlight that invaded through the gap between the trees, ’’When you love someone, you keep them away from your worsts.’’
Let her see him like this? So that she could drown in self-accusation?
The guards looked at each other.
Cardan sighed, tilting his gaze to them, ’’After this is over, I want you all to leave my side,’’ he whispered, his voice growing weaker, ’’Find love. Learn things.’’
’’Your Highness, how could you abandon us?" the old man wavered like a wilted flower.
The rest of the guards dropped to their knees and repeated, ’’Your Highness, how could you abandon us?"
Cardan’s lips twitched, ’’If not because of slow-witted people like you, it would not have taken me ages to get my woman,’’ he glared at them.
But the guards felt like he looked nowhere as scary as he usually did. Most of them had served him since he was young and they revered him just as much as they feared him but at that moment, the man looked so vulnerable. They saw a glimpse of the innocent young boy who was traumatized by the sight of water after drowning in the dark lake.
’’Are you done talking?"
When he heard that voice, Cardan looked at the old man who had earlier protested, ’’Say, am I dying?"
’’Your Highness, how could you say things like that?"
’’I am an immortal but now I cannot help but wonder about uncertainties. People see things and people they cherish the most on their deathbed,’’ Cardan kept gazing upwards, ’’I think I just heard Lucy’s voice.’’
’’Cardan, if you say another word, I will kill you by my own hands,’’ the voice broke towards the end.
’’I heard it again...’’
’’Um, Your Highness,’’ the guards looked at each other. Who was going to tell him?
In the end, the old man spoke up, ’’Lady Luciana is here.’’
Cardan froze.
He gradually tilted his head down.
Luciana rushed towards him and knelt in front of him.
"Lucy, you...’’
Before he could say something, she threw herself into his arms, ’’I hate you.’’
The guards immediately turned around and closed their eyes.
’’Lucy, didn’t you leave? Why are you back?" Cardan sneakily wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
’’Don’t bother with that,’’ Luciana tilted her head to look at him.
Had she been a bit more foolish, she would have left by now. On her way back, she kept feeling like something was amiss.
And her instincts did not lie to her.
’’Lucy, I won’t die.’’
Luciana pushed herself to her feet and walked towards the shadow guards, ’’The dagger,’’ she reached out her hand towards them.
The man hesitated. She just said that she wanted to kill their Prince. What if she really did it?
’’G-Give her what she asks for,’’ Cardan broke into a coughing fit.
"Your Highness,’’ the guards dropped to their knees. Was he even willing to lose his life at her hands?
’’Do you want to die?" Cardan narrowed his eyes at them.
Luciana was bewildered. She had just asked for a dagger. Why were they behaving like she did something outrageous?
She snatched the dagger from one of the guard’s hands and went back to Cardan.
He smiled at her cheekily, ’’Lucy, do you want to stab me?"
’’Mhm,’’ Luciana squatted in front of him.
’’Good. I like it rough.’’
Luciana: "_"
The guards nearly puked mouthfuls of blood, feeling like they were worried about the wrong person. The lady was certainly taking care of their Prince’s tendencies and preferences. It was wrong of them to blame such a virtuous woman.
Still kneeling on the ground, they slowly twisted their waist and continued kneeling with their backs facing the two people.
"Close your eyes,’’ Luciana coldly said.
Cardan did so without hesitation.
Luciana felt like slapping him when she saw his arrogant face as he smirked slightly. He was confident that she will not stab him.
Shaking her head, she raised her hand and slit her wrist with the dagger.
Cardan’s eyes snapped open. He looked at her bleeding wrist in disbelief. He thought she was playing around with him or she was trying to scare him.
Never once did he expect her to slit her wrist.
’’What...’’
Before he could continue speaking, she pressed her hand to his mouth.
His eyes widened.
’’Drink every drop of blood if you don’t want me to do it again,’’ Luciana glanced at him with narrowed eyes as she thrust her wrist closer to his mouth.
’’Be gentle,’’ he intertwined his fingers with hers and slowly pulled her wrist back. Although his gaze was questioning, he obliged.
His tongue darted out of his mouth as he slowly licked her wrist.
Luciana’s breath fastened. Why were his actions making her hot? He was wounded and she wanted to help him but the way he licked her wrist... it was as if he was eating his favorite delicacy.
Her body... Her body was acting so strangely.
’’Why?" Cardan asked as he tore off a piece of cloth from his outer robe and wrapped it around her wrist.
Luciana lowered her voice to speak, ’’Our blood is known as miracle blood.’’
Cardan frowned. He had never heard anything about it but it was understandable. Mers were a mystery to the whole world. What was recorded in the heavens were barely the shallow things that Zephyr allowed to be known by the world.
Things he did not want outsiders to know, nobody knew them.
Luciana sat back on the ground and hugged her knees as she looked at him, ’’God Zephyr and our ancestors separated Defire from the outer world so that no one knows of our secrets and existence. Immortals and Gods in heaven know about us but they only know what was made known to them. The humans were kept in the dark to prevent unwanted chaos in our kingdom. Our blood, flesh, bones, tears, everything has healing properties. The more powerful a mer is, the more beneficial its body will be. To prevent causing unrest, our kingdom is forbidden to outsiders. Defire is enshrouded in a sense of mystery to intimidate the people from approaching us."
’’It was meant to be a secret yet you revealed it to me just like that," Cardan whispered.
Luciana sighed, ’’So what? Are you getting greedy for more blood now?"
"You..."
