Ensnaring his Dark Moon-Chapter 320: Sleepy
’’So, even if we were caught, we can speak what we are told to. We can say that the heir apparent was showing his concern for his bride. Lady Esme is magnanimous and once she pardons us, the King won’t lay a hand on us.’’
Rory shook her head, ’’I do not want us to be involved in this, Rose.’’
Rose sighed, ’’I am done with the life of servitude, I want to change my fate. We are twins, connected by hearts. I can feel that you are enticed too.’’
’’But...’’ Before Rory could continue speaking, she was surrounded by a group of men.
Rose’s eyes widened, ’’Who are you? Why are you taking my sister?" her voice rose slightly when she watched them dragging Rory away.
’’She would be released once the work is done,’’ one of the men eyed the sachet in her hand.
As she looked at their retreating backs, Rose frowned a little, ’’Now even if I want to, I cannot step back from this, Rory. Maybe this is our destiny,’’ A smile formed on her face when she thought about it, ’’I will bring you out and by then, we will have everything.’’
She turned around and left, not noticing a shadow behind the wall.
Jeremiah smirked, pleased with his choice. Now, nothing would go wrong. Even if Esme changed her mind and decided to not be the savior of their kingdoms, she would still be unable to do anything.
...
Esme was sitting on the bed, looking out of the window as her hand bled.
Drops of blood stained the sheets but her face did not betray a single emotion.
After what seemed like an eternity, she pushed herself to her feet and turned to leave her room, only to be halted on her way when Rose blocked her path.
’’My Lady, I...’’
’’Why did you not leave?" Esme looked at her.
’’My Lady, my sister cannot stop worrying about you. She sent me back to serve you.’’
Esme opened her mouth to say something but under Rose’s persistent gaze, she nodded.
Rose smiled, ’’Then I will prepare the bath for you but I need to burn the incense first. It will help you soothe your nerves and get a good sleep,’’ As she spoke, she was already approaching the bedside table.
While Esme was not focused on her, she slipped the powder that Jeremiah had handed to her.
The fragrance in the room gradually started growing stronger and Rose pressed her hand over her nose, blocking the intoxicating fragrance.
’’Rose, I...’’
’’Yes, my Lady?" she turned to look at Esme whose footsteps were faltering but she did not make any movement to help her.
All of this was observed by two shadows outside Esme’s window, who disappeared as soon as Rose accomplished her mission.
’’She has done it, My Lord,’’ the men knelt in front of him.
Jeremiah nodded, letting out a breath that he did not even know he was holding.
’’When you wish for something for a long time, it’s a desire. When you take steps toward that desire, it becomes a need. An obsession.’’
Jeremiah stepped inside the throne room, eyeing every sturdy pillar of the place before his gaze landed on the throne, ’’One more day.’’ A dream to touch.
A dream that he was about to touch.
The men kept kneeling in front of him, not daring to raise their heads. But their voices echoed in complete devotion for the man, ’’Yes, my Lord.’’
...
The sea was beautifully illuminated by firefly lanterns and all the paths and houses were empty, without any merpeople in sight.
The cobblestone path was flickering in the shade of the sea stars magically engraved by the mer magic.
In the distance, two mermaids swam towards the cobblestone path.
’’Mama, Mama, is our Princess getting married?’’ the little mermaid tugged at her mother’s hand curiously.
The mermaid smiled, ’’Our future King is getting married today,’’ she took hold of her daughter’s hand, ’’In that way, Lady Esme will become our future queen.’’
’’But Mama, everyone says that Lady Esme is our Princess.’’
’’That is because His Majesty dotes on her and pampers her to bits.’’
’’Like you pamper me?" the little girl pointed her finger at herself.
The young mermaid chuckled.
While all the streets were empty, the entire Defire was gathered near the ancestral sea altar.
A few chosen people were allowed to step inside while the ordinary subjects witnessed the glorious view from the confines of magical barriers.
Nobody could remember when was the last time the ancestral altar witnessed a sacred union.
Their King never got married to anyone so this place had always been a mystery to them.
And what was more beautiful was the pair of people standing on the altar, hand in hand.
Gentle and suave, Jeremiah looked like an angel as he looked at Esme with adoring eyes, making the crowd of women feel envious.
The men could not take their eyes off the red-haired lady who had her thick hair braided elegantly.
An exquisite pearl accessory hugged her thin shoulders, while a crimson veil graced her face. Her grey eyes passed through the crowd, mesmerizing everyone as they eventually landed on Jeremiah.
’’Es, how do you feel?’’ Jeremiah whispered, holding Esme’s hand tighter.
’’...Sleepy...’’ she mumbled, blinking her eyes slowly.
Jeremiah smiled, ’’I know you are exhausted. The effects of that herb will wear out gradually. Till then, you have to keep your guard down and marry me like a good girl.’’
"Herb?" Esme blinked, her eyes regaining as she tilted her head to look at Jeremiah, ’’Marriage? But I...’’
’’You wanted this so badly, Es. You are so in love with me. There is no time for you to think about things that don’t matter,’’ Jeremiah held her hand tighter and glanced back at the priests who were chanting the vows that they said.
Unlike humans, mers had plenty of traditions involved in their weddings.
Their wedding started at dawn and now it was almost evening, with only a few rituals left.
As impatient as Jeremiah was feeling, he kept his poise, not giving away his true thoughts.
