Entangled in the Night: Unable to Escape Him-Chapter 130: Jett Sterling Saw a Familiar Look in Someone’s Eyes
When Chloe arrived at Mornfell, it was already past three in the afternoon.
The accident site was cordoned off, and the search and rescue team was looking below. Mr. North sat alone in a corner, smoking.
His narrow eyes were bloodshot.
Seeing this, Chloe immediately rushed to Mr. North’s side, grabbing his hand and asking, "Dad, how’s Mom?"
Finally seeing family, Mr. North’s long-restrained tears began to fall instantly.
He looked at Chloe with trembling lips, "Chloe, I’m afraid your mom is in bad shape. It’s been seven hours of search and rescue, and there’s still no news."
Chloe was filled with panic herself, but seeing her father like this, she forced down her own fear.
She calmly comforted him, "Dad, Mom will be okay. Chloe will bless her with safety."
Hearing this, Mr. North cried so hard his chest shook.
After all these years, he had barely come out from the pain of losing a daughter. That kind of pain can only be truly understood when experienced, and he really didn’t want to go through the grief of losing a spouse in middle age.
He tightly held Chloe’s hand, his fingertips trembling, "I hope Chloe can bless her mother to come back, even if she’s disabled, as long as she’s alive."
That’s what he’s been praying for these few hours.
Faced with such a high cliff, he no longer hoped for Mrs. Nash to be unscathed; he just prayed for her to be alive, and he’d thank the heavens.
As they talked, Silas Prescott walked over.
He squatted down and tightly grasped Mr. North’s hand, "Uncle, I’ve brought a professional rescue team down there. They will definitely find Aunt. Please don’t worry."
Mr. North nodded with old tears, "Young Sterling also brought many people. He went down too, and several hours have passed without him coming back. I’m worried something might happen to him."
At the time of the incident, Mr. North was already beyond panic.
Chloe was far away in Riverton, and even if he told her, she couldn’t come immediately.
Besides, she’s a girl; telling her would only make her anxious, without much she could do.
So, Mr. North contacted Jett Sterling first.
In less than an hour, Jett arrived with a team, personally going down the mountain to search.
Hearing this, Chloe didn’t know how to describe her feelings at that moment.
She knew how Jett felt.
His beloved’s mother was in trouble; he must be more anxious than anyone else.
Ever since he knew that the real Chloe had sacrificed herself, Jett had always blamed himself.
If it weren’t for the Sterling family’s coercion, the real Chloe wouldn’t have gone to such a dangerous place, nor would she have left her life there.
So, Jett transferred all his guilt and longing for Chloe onto the Nash family’s parents.
He felt that protecting their safety was the greatest comfort to the true Chloe.
Time ticked away, and the once blazing sun gradually sank along the western side.
As darkness loomed, it made the search and rescue much more difficult.
Chloe anxiously paced back and forth by the cliff’s edge.
How she wished to find her mother before nightfall.
Just when she was filled with anxiety, Silas suddenly ran over, panting, "Chloe, my team found Aunt. She is alive."
This sentence was like a lifeline to Chloe. She excitedly grasped Mr. North’s hand.
"Dad, Mom’s still alive. Mom is still alive."
Mr. North was already sobbing uncontrollably. He quickly clasped his hands together, looking up at the sky.
He silently prayed: Chloe, it must be you who blessed your mom to survive. It must be you.
Otherwise, with such a high cliff, anyone else would never have made it.
Chloe looked at Silas, somewhat agitated, "Where did they find my mom?"
"Aunt was lucky. A tree stopped her halfway down the mountain. If she really fell off the cliff, the odds would’ve been slim."
Hearing these words, Chloe believed even more that it was truly Chloe blessing her mom.
So, karma really does exist in this world.
The blessings the real Chloe gained from saving so many on the battlefield had all been given to her mother now.
Half an hour later, it was dark.
Suddenly, movements sounded from down the mountain.
Chloe immediately leaned over the cliff’s edge, shouting below, "Mom, Mom."
Hearing her calls, an out-of-breath Jett Sterling carrying Mrs. Nash said, "Auntie, did you hear that? Chloe is waiting for you. You must not sleep and hold on until we’re at the hospital."
Mrs. Nash slowly opened her eyes, weakly saying, "Young Sterling, Chloe is gone. You don’t have to be this good to us."
Jett’s eyes were somewhat moist, "Auntie, Chloe was the love of my life. Now that she’s gone, her parents are my parents too. I’ll take care of you and Uncle for her."
Hearing that, Mrs. Nash couldn’t hold back her tears, "Young Sterling, with you like this, Chloe won’t rest in peace. She would want you to move on and start anew."
Jett’s voice was a bit hoarse, "I can’t forget her. My only love is Chloe."
He continued forward, carrying Mrs. Nash.
Yet, he didn’t know, one of the professional rescue team members who heard this sentence couldn’t help but have red-rimmed eyes.
With the professional rescue team’s help, Jett brought Mrs. Nash up.
Chloe and the medical team were already waiting above.
Seeing them come up, she immediately rushed forward, grabbing Mrs. Nash’s hand and crying, "Mom, how are you?"
Mrs. Nash blinked and said, "Chloe, I’m fine, just feels like some bones are broken."
Seeing her mother could still speak, Chloe was overjoyed.
She quickly examined her mother’s injuries.
"Mom, bones can be set. As long as you’re here, Dad and I are thankful."
She followed the medical team to assess Mrs. Nash’s injuries.
Jett sat exhausted on the ground.
Silas walked over and glanced at him, saying, "Why overexert yourself when there’s a professional team you could’ve used."
Jett wasn’t offended. Instead, he told Silas, "Thank you for bringing this professional team. Otherwise, we’d still be searching."
Silas coldly snorted, "In what capacity are you thanking me? As Chloe’s ex-boyfriend? Sorry, I’m doing this for Chloe, not for you."
After saying that, he turned to the few people from the rescue team, "Thank you all for today. I’ve already transferred the payment to your captain’s account. There’s nothing more here, you can leave."
The individuals in black sporting gear nodded at Silas and were about to leave.
At that moment, Jett called out to them, "The shortest guy, he’s the one who found Aunt. Make sure he gets a little extra."
Hearing him call out, several people turned back.
They wore professional gear on their heads, obscuring their faces.
Only their eyes were visible.
In the moment they turned back, Jett thought he saw a familiar gaze.
