Chapter 441: One Death

The sound of Totsuka no Tsurugi shattering echoed like a thunder. It was a note of finality ringing through the sky and domain.

Susanoo hovered in the air in stunned motionless state. The hilt of his blade now ended in a jagged stump. The pieces of his sword that was sacred for eons scattered like dying stars, dissolving into ash and mist in the rain.

His eyes that once fierce and filled with fury now widened and trembling.

"Impossible..." he whispered.

But it was real. The sword is broken noew, gone.

And before him Clyde who was also hovering no longer looked the same.

Flames and black mist coiled around his body. The dark mist fused with fire surged and forming wings of flame behind him. His black coat billowed, torn and scorched, but he stood on his ground and looked unstopable as always.

Then his eyes opened fully.

Those eyes were no longer human’s eyes. No longer mortal.

They had become inky and completely black.

And deep within those eyes another power burned.

Not warm or bright power but ancient and mysterious power that Susanoo and the other Celestial felt since the corruption happened.

"You feel it now, don’t you?" Clyde said with voice layered with an echo that wasn’t entirely his own. "The weight of this power."

Susanoo flinched at the truth behind those words. He does feel this power.

"Your fate," Clyde said, raising his sword again, the black flames shrieking in anticipation, "was decided long ago. You just never accepted it."

His body tensed, preparing the killing strike.

"You all will die. By my hand or by another’s hand that works for the same force," Clyde said.

Susanoo, the god of storms who had once stared down the rage of the seas, stood unshaken before monsters and dragons, now feeling his whole body trembled.

His lips parted as if to speak but no sound came.

Because in that moment... he saw the truth.

The power before him was no longer just a warrior’s strength. It was a real harbinger of an end.

Then Clyde moved.

With terrifying speed he blurred forward and becoming a spiral of fire and darkness. His Elderglass sword lashed downward in an arc of fire and dar mist.

Susanoo was blasted from the sky like a falling star. He hit the roof of his grand palace and shattered it like glass.

Marble, divine stone, and sacred crystal erupted in a hailstorm of debris as he plummeted through the palace then crashing down through throne rooms, vaults, and temples. Each level torn apart by the force of the impact.

And finally, on the far side of the mountain-sized palace structure, he burst out, still falling, his body smoking, his armor in ruins.

He hit the ground with a huge impact.

Above, Clyde still hovered and watching him with burning power of the Ancient One.

Clyde smiled.

This fight wasn’t as hard as he expected.

Susanoo, the mighty god of storms, had been strong but not strong enough. Not against what Clyde had become.

He looked at his hands. The fire still danced along his arms, threaded with coils of dark mist. The power of the Ancient One now flowed freely through him like a storm. His Level had climbed so high so he can absorb more power from the Ancient One to get to this level of strength. All those grinding is definitely payed off.

Susanoo never stood a chance and he knew it.

Clyde’s gaze then drifted downward.

Far below he spotted Asqa floating in the air. Her white coat was streaked with rain and battle scars, but she stood tall and dominating the battle. The venomous magic around her had begun to fade and her enemies scattered and died.

Clyde smiled proudly.

"She doesn’t need me to protect her anymore. She’s strong enough now to stand beside me."

Then he turned his gaze back to the shattered remains of Susanoo’s palace.

Through the smoke and broken stone he could still sense the god’s life force.

He was still alive. But not for long.

With no hesitation, Clyde descended.

A burst of flame and dark mist exploded beneath his feet as he rocketed downward, smashing into the ruins of the palace.

The final supports gave way under the impact and the entire structure crumbled into dust. The divine sanctuary reduced to rubble in seconds.

He landed beside Susanoo’s broken body.

The god lay in a crater of crushed marble and scorched stone. His armor was melted and warped, fused to his flesh. His body was burned.

The dark mist curled around him then sank into his wounds.

Susanoo’s eyes fluttered open.

There was no anger or pride. Only the hollow gaze of a dying god who had seen something beyond understanding and knew it was his end.

Clyde said nothing.

With a calm move he raised his Elderglass sword and with one swift slash he brought the sword down and cleaved Susanoo’s head clean from his shoulders.

There was no cry or scream. Just silence. And then, the body of the god crumbled into ash.

From Susanoo’s corpse, the power began to unravel and drifting upward in luminous streams of blue and white.

Clyde stood still and let it come.

The power entered his body, flowing into him like a tide flooding a vessel made perfectly to contain it. He closed his eyes and exhaled slowly.

Waves of energy surged beneath his skin, merging with the dark mist already within him. For a moment, he glowed with layered power of shadow, and now storm.

The sky above cracked, a deep rumble echoing.

The ground trembled. Cracks raced across marble paths and the great cherry blossom trees shed their petals all at once.

The entire domain shuddered under the weight of its master’s death and the absorption of his power.

But Clyde held did not destroy it all.

He will let the followers of this place live.

He turned and rose into the sky, drifting down to where Asqa waited amid the aftermath of her own victory.

She looked up with calm expression calm.

Clyde nodded once.

"The Celestial is dead," he said, "It’s time. We move to the next destination."

Asqa gave a small nod.

Clyde raised a hand, and the air before them twisted. A portal tore open.

Without another word, Clyde stepped through and Asqa followed.

The portal closed behind them, and leave the broken domain.
