Chapter 19 – The Battle for Acquiring Talent!

“Hello, I want to dedicate ‘Yang Fan!'” said the listener on the other end with a smile.

“Yang Fan? Is it the song ‘Yang Fan Qi Hang?'” Shi Lei was slightly stunned for a moment, but quickly reacted.

After all, he was a host for a music program; what song didn’t he know?

As long as you told him two words of a song, he could recognize the song right away.

“No, just two words: Yang Fan!” the listener insisted.

Now, Shi Lei was a bit confused. Was there really a song by this name?

If there was, he would have known about it immediately. After all, the person sitting next to him at work was named Yang Fan!!

“Alright, then, may I ask, who is this song for?” Shi Lei professionally stalled for time.

His fingers quickly typed “Yang Fan” on the keyboard, trying to see if a recent unknown song by that name had been released.

“Just for myself,” the listener replied.

The mouse in Shi Lei’s hand was flying across the screen as he carefully searched the web for a song named “Yang Fan,” but found nothing.

Shi Lei furrowed his brow, but his voice remained unchanged: “For yourself? Looks like today’s a very special day. Would you mind sharing with our audience why it’s so special?”

“I’m sorry!” The listener was very tight-lipped, giving no explanation.

Shi Lei’s hand holding the mouse froze for a moment. Was this person really calling to dedicate a song?

It seemed like they were just trying to stir up trouble.

“Alright, it seems that we don’t have the song ‘Yang Fan’ in our library at the moment. How about I play ‘Yang Fan Qi Hang’ for you instead? Does that work?” Shi Lei tried to keep his attitude professional, although he was starting to feel irritated.

“No, you’re not good at your job. If you let Yang Fan come on to take the call, he’d know exactly what the song ‘Yang Fan’ is!” The listener was playing with Shi Lei, finally revealing the true purpose of their call.

Shi Lei’s expression changed slightly. So it turned out that this was an attempt to stir trouble for him.

“Yang Fan, you little brat, your fans are causing trouble for me. Wait until you get back from your business trip, and I’ll show you what I can do!”

Shi Lei was an experienced host, though, and didn’t let the audience lead him. He maintained a gentle tone and said, “Host Yang Fan’s talk show airs between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.”

“You can call during that time to interact with host Yang Fan. Thank you for calling, and we’ll talk again soon!”

Shi Lei skillfully brushed off the listener and immediately cut off the call.

He then turned to look at the broadcast director’s room next door, where the director had been answering calls non-stop, barely having time to drink water.

Shi Lei finally realized that something seemed off with today’s call-in segment.

To avoid any mishaps in the upcoming live show, it seemed best to skip the interactive segment for the rest of the show.

Silently, Shi Lei gestured to the director to stop taking calls.

Then, he began his next segment with full concentration: “Alright, next, we’ll listen to a beautiful song...”

Shi Lei spent the rest of the show in self-entertainment mode. After the show, he rushed to the director’s room to ask, “What happened during the second half of the interaction session today?”

“I don’t know either. All the calls were about Yang Fan,” the director replied, more confused than Shi Lei.

Shi Lei and Yang Fan were desk neighbors, but the director was far away from Yang Fan. If Shi Lei didn’t know what was going on, how could the director?

Shi Lei pursed his lips and patted the director’s shoulder, “Thanks for the hard work. Although I don’t know what’s happening, it seems the interaction sessions for the next few days might be in trouble.”

In the director’s office, Shi Lei anxiously knocked on the door, intending to report the situation.

“Come in,” the director said, swallowing.

As Shi Lei entered and closed the door, the director’s phone rang. She quickly gestured for Shi Lei to remain silent before answering the call.

“Hello, is this the Director of Mango Radio?”

“Yes, who is this?”

“Hello, I’m the manager of Wu Jing, a signed artist under Golden Wind.”

“Wu Jing feels that Yang Fan, your host, has excellent acting talent. Our company is willing to pay a high breach fee for Yang Fan. We hope the radio station can release him.”

The director rubbed her aching temples, “Yang Fan is an outstanding employee, and he has no plans to resign.”

“We respect the personal wishes of all our hosts and won’t force them to do anything.”

The manager chuckled, “Understood, we will communicate with your Station Chief. As Yang Fan’s direct superior, we hope you can help persuade him. If Yang Fan signs with Golden Wind, there will be generous rewards!”

The director sighed, “It depends on Yang Fan’s decision. I can’t make any promises. I’ll try my best.”

“No problem. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Goodbye!”

“Goodbye.”

After hanging up, the director slumped into her chair, exasperated, rubbing her temples.

“You, what’s going on? Speak!” the director said weakly, glaring at Shi Lei.

Shi Lei blinked, still confused, pointing at the director’s phone, “Director, what’s going on with Yang Fan?”

The director gave a despairing laugh and shook her head. “Just before you came in, I received calls from the agent of the award-winning actor Zhang Yi, the director of The Climbers Li Dao, and even from the agency of international superstar Zhang Ziyi!”

“Not to mention the calls from talented actor Jing Boran’s company and Hu Ge’s agency!”

“And of course, the call from Wu Jing’s agent, Golden Wind!”

“And they all want Yang Fan!”

The director’s face darkened. “I’m really starting to wonder what kind of mess Yang Fan has gotten himself into. I only sent him on a business trip, and now look how this has turned out.”

She had hoped Yang Fan would bring some glory to the station, but now top-tier entertainment companies were fighting to snatch him away.

Yang Fan was definitely destined for a brighter future in the entertainment industry.

But what about their station? Now, Mango Radio was waiting for Yang Fan to make them shine.

But Yang Fan’s rise was so fast that it seemed he might just leave the station behind.

Shi Lei was dumbfounded. “This isn’t a business trip; this is like getting a diamond-studded opportunity!”

“Director, let me tell you. I just finished my show, and my second half...” Shi Lei quickly explained everything he encountered to the director.

The director’s face turned dark as soon as she heard his story.

This was the pressure from those big companies—letting them know that if the station didn’t release Yang Fan, other shows from their station wouldn’t get any more chances either.

“Shi Lei, come with me. We need to see the station chief. This is a huge issue!” the director said urgently.
