Chapter 107: Eastern Angel

Kaiser shrugged off the feeling, locking eyes with the angel. The people bowing to the angel also turned towards them, slowly rising from the ground.

"I’ll handle the worshippers. Alex will keep the others at bay. Let’s end this at once."

Anna said, then rushed forward. Kaiser followed behind, but flipped over her to reach the angel.

The angel calmly raised a hand and deflected his blade, still cradling the baby in its other hand.

’Freedom from recoil.’

Instead of being thrown back, Kaiser just dropped to the ground before the angel. His sword stabbed toward the baby, forcing the angel to protect it with its right wing.

The sword didn’t reach the baby, as it had dissolved into sparks and returned to Kaiser’s crystal core.

While the angel was confused, the shadows suddenly lashed out. They manifested into solid constructs, latching onto the angel’s joints.

The sudden appearance of the dark element surprised Anna and Alex, but they didn’t let it distract them. While Kaiser dealt with the angel, they dutifully kept the worshippers at bay.

Bang!

A statue smashed its head against Anna’s shield, forcing her back a few steps. Another appeared at her left flank, swinging a jar at her.

She blocked with her spear, feeling a slight tremble in her arm.

She gritted her teeth, then infused flames into her weapon.

As an Emberheart member, she possessed affinity for fire. The flames burned brightly, wrapping around the spear.

The statues touched by the weapon melted instantly.

Seeing that her sister was getting heated, Alex grinned. Battle intent surged into her eyes, and she also began coating her arrows with fire.

Even the regular shots not augmented by her ’Explosion’ ability were enough to penetrate the statues cleanly. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Kaiser felt the heat waves rolling against his skin. ’I see. They’ve gotten serious.’

The angel wasn’t really hindered by the darkness manifestations. It tore through the bindings with little effort, almost making them useless.

However, they gave Kaiser the momentary lapse he needed. Before the angel could break the restrictions around its ankles, Kaiser swooped in.

He stepped close to it, then cut off the hand holding the baby. He blurred backward, retreating immediately. The angel tried reaching out to stop him, but his sword already sank into the baby’s heart.

Crack!

Faint cracks appeared on the angel, and it suddenly shattered.

"Move!"

He called out to Anna and Alex as he veered diagonally left. Their next and final destination was the Northern End.

On the way, instead of fighting the other statues, Kaiser simply used the darkness manifestations to slow them down while they escaped.

It drained his essence, but he didn’t mind. Everything was still going according to calculations.

"You didn’t tell us you had an affinity for the dark element."

Alex asked, running beside him. She took a look at the writhing manifestations, then turned to him.

"How can you even do that?"

"Not the right time for questions." Kaiser shook his head, his gaze focused. He didn’t know why, but he had a bad premonition in his heart.

The closer they got to the Northern End, the fewer statues they encountered.

Finally, they arrived at the Northern End. The place was desolate. No worshipper or statue littered the ground.

In the distance, Kaiser could see a thick green vine connecting the Worship Island to another island lost in the darkness.

"There’s nothing here?" Anna frowned, perplexed.

Kaiser’s muscles relaxed, and he slowly raised his head. "Up there."

His voice drew the attention of the other two, and they all looked up.

High in the sky, a single statue of an angel floated. It wasn’t like the other statues they had met. Not because it was of a different gender, but because of its wings.

It had three pairs of wings. With two, it covered its face. With another two, it covered its feet. The last pair was spread wide for flight.

"Holy..." Alex gasped. "Will it...? Will it be three times stronger?"

Anna gulped, and a sense of hopelessness filled her heart. Before Kaiser even joined them, she had been unable to defeat the Southern Angel. Now, faced with an angel having six wings, she despaired.

Kaiser sighed tiredly, then said in a soft voice. "Goodness gracious... I actually have to go all out to survive."

The shadows surrounding him turned darker, and a cold air burst forth from him.

Anna’s eyes widened. ’Such deep killing intent... how much has he killed?!’

Her body trembled, fear permeating her bones. Alex fared worse. She stared at Kaiser like he was a monster, her body frozen in fear.

From his shadow, something dark crawled out. First came two thin insect-like legs, then another pair. Then came two more pairs.

At this point, the creature revealed itself.

It was the Bottom Arachnid he had slain days ago on the First Isle, later turned into a Shadow. The black monster stood by his side, its height matching his.

Just as the sisters were recovering from their shock, another figure rose from his shadow. This one was more humane, clad in black armor that hid its body perfectly. However, from the figure, anyone could tell that it was a female knight. Pitch black hair flowed from beneath the helmet, flailing in the air.

As the Bottom Arachnid and the Cursed Knight entered the fray, the tension heightened.

Kaiser slowly unsheathed Virtuous Sorrow, holding the sword by his side.

The Bottom Arachnid moved first. It opened its mouth, then spat thin threads of webs into the air.

The angel dodged, flapping its flying wings slightly. The next second, it appeared on the ground.

Boom!

The ground caved beneath its feet, cracks spreading like webs. The Cursed Knight immediately struck. Her sword sliced towards its face which was covered by wings.

The sound of the clash was devastating, just as much as the black Shadow contrasted the white statue. The Bottom Arachnid also attached, striking with its legs in rapid succession.

The six-winged angel only defended, allowing them to rain blows onto it.

The shockwaves from the attacks of the two Shadows were heavy, forming a violent gale that blew around them.

Kaiser waited patiently, allowing his Shadows to fight the angel until it gave a reaction.

Finally, it moved. The two wings covering its face opened wide, revealing its eerie face.
