Eternal Freedom's Ascension-Chapter 35: Hazel’s Indignance
Meanwhile, as soon as the alarm for lunch break rang, Hazel stepped out of the class, then went straight to the staff room.
She stepped into the general room where most instructors were gathered, shouldered their gazes, then walked into Instructor Rina’s office.
"Ooh, it seems one of Rina’s kids is very angry."
A female instructor with blonde hair and pink eyes giggled, though her eyes weren’t smiling. The other instructors ignored her, not wanting to be caught in her web of schemes.
...
Hazel stepped into the office, her expression a mix of suppressed anger and calmness.
From behind the office table, Instructor Rina looked up, slightly surprised. Why did the usually proud girl look like she had been left on the edge and unable to release?
Naturally, her sarcastic thoughts were unknown to Hazel, who took a deep breath to calm herself. Then, she spoke.
"Instructor Rina. I’d like to know how the school places each student into a specific class."
Hearing her question, Rina was obviously surprised. Does that mean that this girl had grasped the rules? She quickly shook her head, then answered.
"Unfortunately, I cannot tell you. However you should be aware that the school’s judgement is always fair."
Hazel scoffed. "Fair? You mean placing me with a bunch of dimwits and weirdos is fair?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Academically, I’m confident in topping the class. Combat-wise, I’m strong enough to be ranked in the top three. I don’t see a reason why I should be placed in that class!"
Rina ignored her outburst, and instead, produced three different result sheets. "Now take a look at this... Sebastian Hemsworth."
Hazel collected the first sheet, glancing through it. Slowly, her eyes widened in surprise.
Seeing that, Rina smiled. "He had a perfect score in all entrance test subjects. Do you think you’re academically better than him?"
Hazel’s eyes wavered, but she remained steady. "As long as I study hard, I can achieve the same results."
Rina shook her head at the girl’s stubbornness, then gave her another sheet.
"Ariel Hilton. He had an unnerving score in the tests. 71, 72, 73, 74, and 75 marks in the five subjects. Can you achieve that too?"
At this point, Hazel frowned tightly. "Ariel? That blank guy got this?"
Rina nodded. "His scores are so precise. Don’t you find it suspicious?"
Hazel raised her head. "Are you saying he cheated?"
The black-haired instructor shook her head. "Use your brain and think. He definitely controlled his scores, even in the Combat Assessment. Do you think just anyone can do that?"
Hazel’s brown eyes widened. "He controlled his scores? Isn’t that a bit too farfetched?"
Rina didn’t entertain her doubts. "Do you want me to call him over?"
Immediately, Hazel shook her head. There was no need to bring that guy here personally.
"Now take a look at this one." Rina said, passing her the last sheet. "Kaiser Solace. Don’t you find it surprising?"
Hazel collected the papers, then frowned deeply. "What? 0 marks in every subject? Didn’t he write the test?"
Instructor Rina leaned back into her chair, her expression serious.
"You shouldn’t think too much. He simply skipped the test. He didn’t attend any."
Hazel blinked, stupefied. Didn’t attend the test at all? What kind of person applies for a school, and doesn’t attend their entrance tests? Still, when she remembered his usually slothful attitude in class, she felt like it made more sense.
’What nonsense am I thinking? How did he even get enrolled?’
Instructor Rina smiled. "Now then, don’t you wonder why he was enrolled even when he skipped the tests?"
Hazel fell into deep thoughts, trying to come up with an answer. She immediately ruled out external influence. Although Kaiser was refined and sometimes elegant, he didn’t have the auras that noble heirs had. And even if he had a great background, the Pegasus Will Awakened Academy couldn’t be swayed by meager things like bribery.
So how the hell did he get accepted?
Slowly, her eyes widened. "You mean, the entrance tests don’t really matter?"
Her instructor smiled thinly. "You’re right. 70% of the academy’s evaluation had been done before you guys even applied. The entrance tests are just formality."
"Now, don’t you wonder what parameters the school used? I’m sure you must have heard it before... Flaws."
"The more severe your flaws or negative personality traits are, the higher your chance of being placed in a lower class."
Hearing Instructor Rina’s explanation, Hazel felt like she had been force-fed a bitter pill.
"What exactly...? What exactly is my negative personality trait?"
She asked, her tone as cold as ice.
Rina ignored her tone, and spoke bluntly. "Arrogance. You are too arrogant, Hazel. Believing you can do everything alone. Who do you think you are? A god?"
Hazel’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Arrogant? I’m simply prideful in my own competence and abilities."
Seeing this, the green-eyed woman sneered. "Prideful in your competence? Hah! Such words are already arrogant. I presume you already have an understanding of how the school works. Do you think you alone can bring your class to Class-A?"
Faced with Instructor Rina’s disdainful words, Hazel fell silent. If it was just her alone, she believed she could definitely rise up to Class-A. However, dragging those dimwits called her classmates with her seemed almost impossible.
Seeing that the girl had accepted this fact, Instructor Rina’s gaze softened.
"You can’t do everything alone, Hazel. You need friends, acquaintances, and allies. Without them, you’ll only be making a pointless struggle."
Hazel unconsciously scrunched Kaiser’s result sheets, her expression conflicted. This was practically challenging her own beliefs. However, to be able to rise to Class-A, and gain her father’s approval, she needed to work with others.
"I can see that you’re already determined." Instructor Rina smiled slightly. "Good, then let me inform you of a few potential allies you should look out for."
Hazel’s ears perked up, her mind focused.
"First is Sebastian. Although I don’t know if you have the ability to coerce him, I believe he would be able to help you greatly."
"The second person is Ariel. Although he’s an escapist and likes to remain silent, he is definitely very intelligent."
"I don’t know who else you can pick, but I’ll leave that to your discretion. There are definitely smart people in your class."
Hazel nodded, then her expression turned weird. Why wasn’t Kaiser mentioned?
