Evolution begins with an ant colony-Chapter 269: Inevitability
"Hey, come on, Leona, wait up," Oliver called out as he quickened his pace to catch up with Leona and Hestria.
"Have you finally decided to take things more seriously?" Leona asked as she turned around to gaze at the approaching Oliver. He caught up to Leona and Hestria, remarking, "Geez, Leona, I know the saying goes ’ladies first,’ but that doesn’t mean you should leave the gentleman behind.
Were you really planning on carrying out the mission without me?" He winked his left eye at the end, tilting his head slightly to the left.
Leona let out a sigh, then continued forward, saying, "Enough of your games, Oliver. We should get this over with. I hate when a simple task ends up taking too much of my time."
Oliver, seeing this, continued behind her, muttering with a slight hint of mischief, "Oh? The firm and calm Leona is getting tired? Frustrated, maybe?"
Leona mumbled as she followed behind Hestria, "As I said, Oliver, that’s enough of your games. Better stop now before I make you."
"Geez, loosen up a little, Leona. I never knew you were this uptight," Oliver remarked as he walked up to Leona’s side, placing his hand on her shoulder.
Meanwhile, as this was happening, Hestria mused, a hint of panic in her thoughts, "I have to find a way to have an audience with the king before these two decide to storm the castle. With the way things are going, it will be inevitable that innocent lives will be lost. As a knight, I can’t just stand back and let innocent people die.
After all, I am the one who led these monsters here, so I also have to be the one to make sure nothing happens to the people because of my actions."

As Oliver and Leona made their way through the bustling streets of Imperial Magna, they arrived at the center of the city, where the massive royal castle stood.
The royal castle, along with the holy church, mage tower, and alchemist guild, surrounded the royal castle. This entire section of the city also had a wall around it, along with a massive gate where guards stood both inside and outside.
"Doesn’t look like they’ll just let us in if we ask nicely," Oliver remarked, smiling afterward. He then leaned forward while still looking at the structure and added, "So, Leona, what’s the plan? We aren’t just going to walk up to the guards and tell them we want to see their king, right?"
"Um, I’ll go," Hestria suddenly spoke up as she walked ahead of Leona and Oliver, turning around to face them with a tense expression on her face, as if she were slightly scared they would disagree with her proposal.
"You’ll go where?" Leona asked, folding her arms, her piercing gaze directed at Hestria.
"Yeah, what she said," Oliver muttered as he leaned toward Hestria.
Hestria began to fidget as she said, "I can go and inform the king about your presence, so you can both have an audience with him."
"An audience?" Oliver and Leona echoed as they both tilted their heads to the left, clearly surprised by the prospect.
"Yes, I can tell the king that you are both sent here from another kingdom and are here to inform him that your king wants to have a meeting with him."

"Well, that does sound plausible. Maybe such an approach is not so bad," Leona said as she glanced at the castle in the distance, placing her right hand under her jaw, gesturing inquisitively.
Oliver seemed disappointed that Leona was agreeing to let things play out so smoothly. "Oh, come on, Leona. What about the blood, the chaos? Don’t you want to test how much stronger you have become after stepping out of the forest?"
Hearing his words, Hestria tensed up as she suddenly directed her gaze at him.
Leona then turned to gaze at Oliver and remarked, "Indeed I am, but if there is an option that is less violent, why should I choose violence when no one has to die?"
Seeing Leona’s more level-headed demeanor, Hestria calmed down. Oliver then pointed out, "Are you forgetting the reason we were even sent on this mission? Our lands were trespassed on, our people killed, and our liege wanted to hold this king responsible. Forget about having an audience with him; we are supposed to raid this castle, capture him, and then take him back to our liege."
Oliver seemed to emphasize an important point, making Hestria feel like all hope was lost. But then Leona said something that gave her hope once again. "Oliver, you have a point; however, it wouldn’t be right to drag innocent people into a battle they were neither the reason for nor a part of," she said, locking her piercing gaze with Oliver’s.
For a moment, both locked in an intense gaze, the air around them felt tense like a battle could break out at any moment. Suddenly, Oliver let out a sigh and said, "If this is how you want it to play out, then okay. But once things go south and we have to raid the castle, don’t go pulling your punches," as he folded his arms as well.
Leona understood why Oliver was acting like this; obviously, he wanted to punish the humans who naturally looked down on monsters and also wanted to test out his heightened abilities, as well as dish out some retribution by destroying the Leonheart king’s dignity by raiding his castle to practically kidnap him.
"Thank you, Oliver," Leona said as she slowly turned to face Hestria. "Hestria, I’m only doing things like this because it’s the right thing to do. But if your audience doesn’t go as planned, then I will be in complete support with Oliver. We will raid the castle and capture the king."
Hestria could practically feel the seriousness in Leona’s words, causing a chill to run down her spine.
"Yes, I’ll try my best to make things play out smoothly," Hestria said, as she slowly turned around and began heading towards the gates. Seeing all this play out, Oliver mused, "Leona, Hestria, both of you are simply lying to yourselves. What are the chances a king would suddenly agree to follow random strangers to meet their king for a meeting? Dose he have no pride?
For all he knows, it could be some ambush or setup, and why should a king respond to the calling of another random king he doesn’t even know about? It’s just rubbish. The sad truth is blood will be spilled today, and it’s unfortunate some innocent people will end up being among the casualties as well."
