Evolution Online: Building a Kingdom with 100\% drop rate-Chapter 38: Ch-: Auction Start
A beautiful young lady appeared on the stage with a dazzling smile and a cheerful attitude, brightening the atmosphere despite the dimmed lights.
"Welcome to Moonlight City’s auction of the year. I’m sure you will be very pleased with our items. So, let’s begin!" the woman spoke, while Rina beside Victor shifted her attention to the stage, still maintaining the same satisfied smile, wondering about Victor’s identity.
"Before we begin, allow me to remind you of the rules for this auction house! First of all, once you have made a bid on an item, it will be final and you cannot retract the offer! Rule number two: you are not allowed to pressure others with your background! This is an auction house, not the streets! After one warning, we will ask you to leave! And lastly, if you bid on an item and cannot afford it in the end, we will take whatever you have on hand until it is enough to pay the debt! If the debt is not paid, we will detain you until someone pays it!"
After announcing the rules, the auctioneer clapped her hands. A moment later, another beautiful lady appeared on the stage while pushing a cart covered by a thick cloth.
"We have many important guests here, so let’s begin. First, we have a Regeneration Potion. For those who do not know, this potion can regenerate even lost limbs, and if you are on the verge of death, it heals all injuries and restores you to peak condition in seconds." This item did not cause much reaction from the VIPs, but for the newbie players and low-level NPCs, this potion was highly desirable.
"The bid will start from 1 gold coin," the woman’s voice fell, and everyone started bidding frantically. Victor watched calmly as the price rose to 20 gold coins and was bought by a player. For the player, this was still a steep price.
"We have many important guests here, so the next item will surely be of interest to our VIPs. We have none other than a vial of Bloodline Potion!" the auctioneer announced as the curtains were drawn back, revealing a small platform moving toward the stage. Quickly, many of those present exclaimed with interest at the potion.
"Oh, I did not expect them to get their hands on a Bloodline Potion," Rina said in surprise. Even Victor was a bit surprised, as he knew what Bloodline Potions were.
Bloodline Potions are made from the blood of a Warlock, which allows someone who consumes the potion to use their Warlock power—a weakened version—for a period of time. These potions are mainly sold by nobles who possess Warlock Bloodlines and generate massive revenue yearly. From just one drop of their blood, at least a thousand potions could be made. Many non-Warlocks spend money to get these potions, and many also equip their elite soldiers with them, as they can give them an edge in battles. This is one of the ways a non-Warlock can experience the feeling of being a Warlock, and many merchants buy them just to experience it.
"You don’t seem very interested in this," the woman observed.
Victor merely shrugged and said, "Would a Warlock be interested in something this mediocre?"
"Heh, a truly fitting reply befitting of a Warlock," Rina said with a chuckle.
"Let’s start our first item at 5,000 gold coins!" the auctioneer shouted, and seeing the high price, many people in the auditorium grimaced, as they could not afford such a high price. Even if they could, they knew the VIPs were going to bid and raise the price. On the other hand, players looked at the potion with longing and frustration.
’Tsk, I thought he would explode again,’ Victor clicked his tongue when he saw Matthew get angry, unable to afford the potion, and noticed he almost stood up but was stopped by the other guild members.
The bids began and quickly escalated as VIPs seemed determined to secure this potion. They knew how difficult it was to get a potion from nobles, as it was instantly sold out, and they did not mind paying a premium for it, until the highest bid reached 15,000 gold coins.
The item vanished the next moment as the auctioneer continued, "On to the next item!" she shouted again, as a new item covered by cloth appeared.
Unveiling the next item, an ordinary sheet of paper which was glowing silver appeared in front of everyone. Seeing this, Victor’s eyes lit up.
’Finally, it’s here!’
The item that he had been waiting for—the map of the hidden dungeon.
"Folks, I’ll have to be honest with you here. Not much is known about this item. However, after some thorough testing, we were able to find something extremely interesting. This paper is emitting a very high magical signature, and we have deduced it might be some kind of treasure map. The reason why we’re presenting this item is precisely because of this. Since we can’t figure it out, we thought that maybe it would be better in someone else’s hands."
’A paper? Pfft, who would be stupid enough to buy this? To whoever buys it, it would just end up resting in their storage to collect dust,,’ Emily thought with disdain. Not only her—even the VIPs were uninterested. Maybe only the players, hearing that it might be a treasure map, were excited, because in previous games they had played, the most useless items often turned out to be treasures.
"The bid will start at 1 gold coin," the woman said, and many players started bidding while Victor watched calmly.
"20 gold coins," Matthew said calmly. Seeing this, many players backed out, but NPCs were still bidding, and the price rose to 50 gold coins.
"50 gold coins, going once! Going twice—"
"1000 gold coins," Victor said casually, and everyone turned to look at Victor in surprise, especially Matthew, who recognized him. Victor had decided that it would be better for him to buy it directly rather than wait for Matthew to attack him and snatch it later.
"That bastard NPC," Matthew said through gritted teeth as he struggled to control himself and clenched his fists to calm down. He had realized that this outburst of anger was due to the bloodline he had acquired, so he started forcing himself to control his anger and had made some progress, as he managed to restrain himself.
"Huh, you are interested in this?" Rina said with surprise.
"I mean, didn’t you hear? They said it might be a treasure map. What if it’s true?" Victor replied calmly.
’Naive,’ Emily snorted.
Then a sly grin appeared on Rina’s face. "What if I also start bidding against you?"
Victor’s expression turned ugly instantly, and seeing his expression, Rina burst into giggles. "Haha, I was joking."
Veins popped out on Victor’s forehead as he looked away from Rina.
"100 gold coins... once... twice... thrice... sold," the auctioneer said as a beautiful woman handed him the map.
[Item: Map of ???? Dungeon]
After examining the dungeon map, he saw a virtual map appear before him, which clearly showed the entrance of the dungeon.
"The following items are the final items to be auctioned. One of our employees was lucky to find these in a dungeon from a corpse. Even our appraisers cannot accurately identify what they are, but they have concluded that these are skill books related to Warlocks."
As soon as the auctioneer’s words fell, all the VIPs sharply looked at the stage where the items were under a cloth. Even if they couldn’t use them themselves, they were determined to buy them, as they could gift them to Warlocks to gain their favor or sell them at high prices.
The host slowly lifted the cloth, revealing the three glowing books.
Victor’s pupils trembled when he saw two of the books. Just because others could not identify them didn’t mean Victor, a Warlock, couldn’t see their details. He sneaked a glance at Rina, and sure enough, she was also looking at the books with a serious expression and a hint of astonishment, as even Victor himself did not expect to encounter such items in a beginner area. Only Warlocks or high-level beings were able to view Warlock-related items.
’The competition will be tough,’ Victor grimaced. Rina looked at Victor and smiled, saying, "Looks like you can also see it, and judging by your expression, it seems we will compete over it."
He looked at the books again.
