Evolution Online: I Can Fuse With All Things-Chapter 52: The Watcher’s Eye [part 2]
Chapter 52: The Watcher’s Eye [part 2]
Lucien didn’t know how he was going to react to it all at first.
There was a lot to gawk over with what he was seeing. His eyes widened, gleaming with radiant, beautiful lights.
Should he start from [True Sight]? He could pierce illusions, cloak techniques—which he suspected to be invisibility—mirages and glamors all below Tier 7. Of course, he wasn’t clear what Tier 7 exactly meant now, but scrap that—it sounded so cool!
And he would even be able to find hidden doors. He could see the identity of everything and could even see weak points! Although that one was a special ability with a cooldown time. But scrap that! He could.
’Fusing right away!’
Lucien grinned and clenched the eyes in his hands. Light poured out of his hand and merged with his palm, then the eyes were no more.
[Congratulations, you have fused with a Divine Material for 1,000 talent fragments]
’I really can’t believe that I’m getting all these cool features for a giveaway price because the system doesn’t initially recognize them as divine items—or maybe as items at all.’
There were items and there were non-items, and all of them fell under a group. Lucien would just call them everything. And it seems he could fuse with everything.
His grin widened.
’How soothing.’
[You have acquired Trait: Metal Eyes (Unique Passive): Your eyes have gained a translucent metallic layer, invisible to the naked eye. This layer protects your eyes from the strongest of assaults]
He looked at the Trait with an indifferent expression. It was indeed incredible, but his eyes were rather on something else.
’Bring it, bring it.’
[A Substance has been found...]
[Substance has been identified]
[Substance, Eye of the Watcher is fusing with your eyes]
Lucien, even though he was expecting it, was devastated when his eyes suddenly went blank and he could see nothing.
He froze where he was sitting, trying to navigate his surroundings. The pain was not as intense as it had been with his bones.
But still, suddenly being thrust into darkness with his eyes wide open.
However, the consolation was:
[Predator Instincts have been activated]
[All your senses are temporarily optimized to perceive unnaturally]
Because of it, Lucien could not only clearly hear footsteps but also, in an ineffable way, feel the presence of Gayanna as she finally entered the cave.
He sat down where he was, cross-legged, thinking of how he could sort his situation.
’What if she attacks me?’
At that moment, her voice sounded above him.
"Uh? What is this? What did you do again?"
Lucien shifted slightly, not looking up. His eyes were tightly shut and he sat like an ancient master, as though he had just transcended the realm of heaven and earth.
"What?"
Gayanna stared down with a condescending glare.
"What are you doing? How did you get another divine fragment into you again?"
Lucien was silent for a few seconds. Afterwards, his voice came.
"How can you even tell?"
"Tch! You keep underestimating me. I am a Great Mage. I spent most of my early lives around the runes of dead gods—you think my nose can’t catch the whiff of one’s relic?"
Lucien could not say anything. And the more silent he was, the more awkward the atmosphere felt.
Alas, Gayanna’s soft voice came, although somewhat harsh this time.
"If you don’t wanna say, don’t. I don’t care."
Lucien contemplated for a bit before exhaling.
"Well, the thing is... I stumbled upon some things when me and the Godzilla were settling our differences. If you don’t mind, I’d like to ask some questions."
Gayanna stared at him, then floated to her seat. She crossed her legs—no, it was as though the gentle wind crossed them for her. Then she rested her elbow on one leg and leaned on it, staring evenly at him.
"Go on."
"Do you know Ossyn?"
Gayanna shrugged.
"Well, I heard about him here and there. He was a pain in the new gods’ butts, but he was the youngest of the Ancient gods. I don’t know enough about him to be of use to you. Why? What is it with Ossyn?"
"I stumbled upon his bone in Ossyn Woods."
Gayanna tilted her head.
"Ossyn Woods? Where is that?"
"Northside from the cliff—I’m surprised you don’t know, considering that you guys lived in the early age."
"Well! What you see here now was very far from what was over ten thousand years ago. For example, when I sculpted myself there, it was alone. Gods! I have no idea how an entire mountain grew behind it. This whole Hall used to be a ruined temple, but everything is now buried within a mountain. Much has changed in ten thousand years! Don’t tell me that."
Lucien frowned, his eyes still shut tight.
"You really don’t have to be aggressive about it."
"Don’t tell me what to do, you blind boy!"
Lucien kept quiet. The entire atmosphere was like a graveyard. The sound of the wind as it blew forth gently was hollow. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
"This is only a temporary situation."
"I’m saying the same thing."
"I hate you already."
"The feeling is completely mutual."
"Then why don’t you just let me be?"
Gayanna moved closer to him, smiling pleasantly.
"Your mana pathway is locked—you can’t even create a mana heart. Do you want me to help you?"
Lucien’s brows furrowed suspiciously.
"You will do that? Suddenly? Why?"
Gayanna smiled widely, tapping his shoulder repeatedly.
"Of course, of course! I’d do anything for the great one!"
Lucien was looking at her but without his eyes open. He could vaguely sense her as she was still. But each time she moved slightly, [Predator Instincts] picked it up sharper.
He sighed.
"Well, I’ll take you up on the offer then. Secondly though, I want to ask about the Watcher. Do you know him?"
Lucien did not see it, but at that point Gayanna’s expression froze. Her golden eyes seemed to dilate. Then a frown fell on her face.
"The Watcher. Well, that one certainly was a disastrous god. How do you know about him?"
Lucien suspected something was off.
’Why is she answering my question with a question?’
However, calling it out was not the best route. That would obviously get him nowhere. So he decided to stay quiet about it and just keep observing her.
"I gained his eyes—that’s how I know."
Immediately, Gayanna’s eyes widened again. Lucien did not see it, but his brows twitched. He felt a change in her composure. Her heart rate also spiked significantly, and he could plainly hear the difference.
"What?"
Her eyes were trembling, her voice shaking.
"H–how? How do you have it? Where did you find it?"
"Well, I found it after killing the Godzilla. Zilla had left it with the Godzilla but had initially taken it from the Corrupted Black Dragon, who had also stolen it from him and was pursuing him to steal the last one before he disappeared. But I don’t think he disappeared—Zilla might have killed him and taken the eye back.
"The Godzilla looked like a dragon. I wouldn’t be surprised if the remains of the Corrupted Black Dragon were what was used to create the monster."
Gayanna stared at Lucien, her gaze actually out of focus, evident that her eyes were far beyond him.
Then she exhaled and said:
"The Watcher. He is a very dangerous god among the old gods. Zilla couldn’t have killed him, at least not alone. I can’t tell you the details unless you really want to commit your heart to this cause. Help me avenge the gods."
Lucien grimaced darkly.
"I already accepted your offer? What else do you want?"
"I’m very sure you know it is more than just accepting the offer."
"Well, if you are not going to tell me, will you at least tell me what this is?"
Lucien finally opened his eyes and took the box from the ground, extending it to her.
His eyes glowed with a soft golden hue, etched deep into the center of his grey irises.
She tried to distract herself from it and focused on the box. She collected it and examined it with a careful expression.
Her eyes suddenly widened and she dropped the box. She almost gave Lucien a jumpscare, shifting back a little with a terrified expression on her face.
"What? What is that? Seriously, you—this great one? Who in this world are you?!"
Lucien was as confused as anyone would be in this situation. He looked at the box and looked at her. Then he lifted the box, trying to discern it.
But he could not see anything. The system did not bring any display before his eyes.
This was the second divine fragment he received from killing the Godzilla. And then there was the egg.
’The egg...’
