Chapter 454: Chapter 420: What Right Does She Have to Cry in His Arms

"Yeah." Wen Nuan nodded and sighed softly, "Xixi and I are both playing roles of women pursuing men, I wonder if she will succeed in the end."

She looked up at Leng Yan, "Honey, do you think the two of them are a good match?"

"Yes, they are." Leng Yan agreed heartily, "Tong Xi is fiery, just the right type to keep Tan Qing in check, not allowing him the slightest thought about you."

"Just because of that?"

"What else do you think it could be?" Leng Yan countered, a hint of smugness spreading across his brows, "Anyway, he won’t have a chance.

"You won’t either." Wen Nuan raised her eyebrows, refusing to be outdone, seriously declaring, "Leng Yan, you must remember at all times, your wife is named Wen Nuan, and only Wen Nuan. I absolutely do not allow the emergence of any mistresses, otherwise..."

She looked at his nearly perfect profile and snorted coldly, "Execute without mercy!"

"Yes, ma’am!" Leng Yan played along cooperatively.

Not far from the MT Group building, Tan Qing held his phone and dialed Tong Xi’s number when he suddenly realized something: it seemed like it was always Tong Xi who called him, and his calls to her were few and far between.

His brows knit unknowingly, and an indescribable feeling began to sprout in his heart. He shook his head lightly, trying to shake off this strange emotion he couldn’t quite grasp, and dialed Tong Xi’s number.

"Driver, go to..."

Tong Xi ran out from Director Weng’s building and saw a taxi stopped right outside. She rushed over but hadn’t even given the address when her phone rang. Seeing the number on the screen, something suddenly struck the softest part of her heart.

It had been nearly a week, and she had restrained herself from calling him, forcing herself to find things to do every day in hopes of forgetting him. But her efforts were in vain; instead of forgetting, her longing grew wildly like uncontrollable weeds.

In the past, she would have answered the call joyfully. But ever since she saw Tan Qing holding Nuannuan’s photo, it was hard for her to muster the courage.

"Why isn’t she answering?"

Tan Qing’s handsome brow furrowed as he muttered quietly to himself and redialed the number.

"Miss, are you going or not?" the taxi driver asked impatiently.

He had just dropped someone off and thought he was lucky not to have to move to get another passenger, but this sweet-looking girl seemed only interested in her phone, staring at it unblinkingly, with her brow deeply furrowed and her expression shifting between gloomy and tender. She stood outside the door, refusing to get in the car.

"Miss..."

Seeing no reaction from Tong Xi, the driver held his temper and called out again.

"Sorry, let’s go." Tong Xi apologized and got into the car.

The phone kept ringing persistently.

Tong Xi bit her lip and answered Tan Qing’s call, speaking coolly, "Tan Qing, do you need something?"

"Why did you take so long to answer?" Tan Qing was slightly taken aback; Tong Xi’s attitude today was very different from before. He asked suspiciously, "Are you feeling unwell? Have you seen a doctor?"

"No, I’m fine." Tong Xi shook her head, a wry smile at her lips, "I was hailing a taxi just now, so I didn’t hear it."

Sick, yes, she was sick. But it’s lovesickness, you know, something even doctors can’t cure.

"Nuannuan and Leng Yan registered today and want to celebrate together. Nuannuan asked me to invite you along. Where are you now, Tong Xi?"

Tong Xi watched snowflakes start to fall outside. She bit her lip, "You go directly to the restaurant. I’m in a taxi now."

If it weren’t for Nuannuan, would he have invited her himself?

He definitely wouldn’t, she thought.

Previously, whenever they went somewhere together, it was almost always her suggestion, and Tan Qing simply never refused.

Tan Qing slightly furrowed his eyebrows, "Oh... alright then."

He guessed she was still upset about the day he used her as a shield. However, this reaction didn’t seem quite in line with Tong Xi’s character, making him a bit suspicious.

In the restaurant, Leng Yan took out the marriage certificate again, gazing at the two smiling faces on it. His handsome face beamed with happiness.

"Had enough looking?" Wen Nuan, sitting beside him, glanced at him with a smile.

Finally having a real marriage certificate, they were now officially a married couple. The photo of them was no longer two people awkwardly pieced together. They were in love, united by mutual feelings, and the picture looked perfectly harmonious.

"I haven’t seen enough."

Leng Yan wrapped his arm around her and kissed Wen Nuan’s smooth, full forehead, "Nuannuan, I’m so happy today."

"Me too." Wen Nuan embraced him back, feeling a subtle ache in her nose, though it wasn’t the old sadness; this time, it was from excitement.

"Oh my, did I come at a bad time? Should I ask everyone in the hall to leave?"

A teasing voice sounded overhead, and Wen Nuan quickly retreated from Leng Yan’s embrace, looking at Tong Xi with some surprise, "Xixi, where is Tan Qing? Why didn’t he come with you?"

"Yeah, why don’t we see the bodyguard?" Leng Yan looked behind her and, finding no one there, chuckled, "Did he go to park the car?"

"Why would he be with me? I came by taxi."

Tong Xi replied casually, sitting across from them, rolling out her hand with a smile, "Hand it over!"

"Miss Tong, please have a look." Wen Nuan handed over the two marriage certificates, her lips pursed in a smile.

She looked up and saw Tan Qing arriving, pushing open the door and walking towards them.

Tong Xi clenched her hand into a fist, "The photo looks so good, I’m green with envy and jealousy!"

"Let me see, it’s indeed nice. A hundred times better than that photoshopped one," Tan Qing said, standing next to Tong Xi, bending over to take a closer look with a smile.

Tong Xi’s body went slightly rigid, yet she still turned her head to greet him.

Today was a joyous occasion for Nuannuan and Leng Yan; she didn’t want to dampen the mood with her own feelings.

"Feel envy, jealousy, and hatred all you want; it doesn’t matter. If you’re up to it, take your own picture," Leng Yan snatched the marriage certificate back from their hands, put it away, and gave them a meaningful look.

Tan Qing huffed, "You two go ahead and flaunt, no need to provoke me. Who knows, I might just pull someone off the street, drag them to the Civil Affairs Bureau, stamp a certificate and join the club as a married man."

"No need to drag someone off the street, right in front..." Wen Nuan started, but Tong Xi suddenly interrupted, "Nuannuan, when are you having your wedding ceremony?"

"After the baby is born."

Wen Nuan’s fingers gently caressed her abdomen, her doe eyes filled with happiness and maternal love.

Tong Xi felt a pang of jealousy, "Baby, hurry up and come out, so we can attend your parents’ wedding together."

Tan Qing also chuckled, "I suddenly remembered attending a friend’s wedding recently, where a kid asked his parents why he hadn’t witnessed their wedding. Haha, your family won’t have that problem; your baby can witness it firsthand."

"Sounds like you’re really envious of us," Leng Yan said, wrapping an arm around Wen Nuan’s waist, his eyes looking at Tan Qing, "Actions speak louder than words."

Tan Qing shook his head, no trace of jealousy in his eyes, which curved with a mischievous smile, "Are you suggesting I’ve been too slow to act?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

"You two are never serious."

Wen Nuan glanced at the two of them, her heart bubbling with sweetness.

With Leng Yan as a husband and a friend like Tan Qing, she was truly happy.

When Tong Xi went to the bathroom, Wen Nuan followed her in.

"Xixi," Wen Nuan called softly as Tong Xi touched up her makeup, a faint worry lacing her brows, "Are things not going well between you and Tan Qing?"

They hadn’t arrived together, and when Wen Nuan tried to speak up for them, Tong Xi cut her off. Furthermore, at the table, Tong Xi didn’t intentionally engage in conversation with Tan Qing as she usually did, and her eyes seemed dimly troubled. This all made Wen Nuan feel something was amiss.

"Nuannuan." Tong Xi’s nose twinged with the urge to cry.

Wen Nuan grew more concerned, "What exactly happened?"

Just as Tong Xi was about to explain, she shook her head instead, "It’s nothing, really. It’s just that chasing him is exhausting, and he seems oblivious that I’m even trying. He just sees me as a good friend, a buddy."

She decided not to mention the photo; otherwise, she might make Wen Nuan feel guilty, and she didn’t want to affect her emotions. Besides, since Wen Nuan could now interact with Tan Qing without awkwardness, she couldn’t let it change. If she did, it would create awkwardness between Wen Nuan and Tan Qing later.

"Are you still upset about that day?"

On the way back, Tan Qing tilted his head to look at Tong Xi beside him, deliberately teasing, "Tong, the chivalrous hero, I know you’d go to great lengths for a friend, so don’t stay mad, okay?"

"You’re the hero, your entire family are heroes." Tong Xi was exasperated, tempted to bite into the pale skin of his arm.

Indeed, he treated her as a friend. Damn Tan Qing, aren’t you supposed to have high emotional intelligence? How can you not see the real issue?

Tan Qing raised an eyebrow, giving her a close look, "Seriously, are you actually upset about the incident with Qu Min at the airport?"

He remembered that she’d been in a bad mood since encountering Qu Min.

Tong Xi remained silent, a sour feeling in her heart. She turned to look out the window, her tears pooling in her eyes.

To hell with the airport, to hell with Qu Min. It wasn’t worth being upset over this.

Tan Qing pulled over to the side, speaking in a good-natured tone, "I was indeed wrong that day. I shouldn’t have suddenly used you as a shield and gotten you caught up with Qu Min. Qu Min has ’princess complex,’ doesn’t think before saying things; just consider her air..."

"Let’s go."

Tong Xi interrupted him, her voice soft as her tears fell, unable to look back. She stared numbly at the snow still swirling outside, her heart filled with a multitude of emotions.

She wasn’t angry because of that; she couldn’t even say she was angry. She was just at a loss.

The man she loved was in love with her friend; she didn’t know what to do. She was lost, her heart confused.

Tan Qing turned his head and was shocked, "Tong Xi, are you crying?"

"Who’s crying, and what is there to cry about?" Tong Xi gritted her teeth, turned back to glare at him fiercely, and her tears flowed even harder.

She didn’t want to be so sentimental, but what could she do? She was heartbroken. She was full of grievances, longing to hold him and cry, but what right did she have to do that?
