Chapter 146: Date with Lilith [5] Cursed Lovers

Cassian glared at Lilith in the silence of the park.

The red glow in his eyes trembled with anger and weariness.

The tragic story Lilith told, her family’s suicide, the ostracism, the loneliness... Instead of creating a crumb of mercy in Cassian’s heart, these had become the last drop overflowing his patience.

"What do I care about what you told?" asked Cassian, his voice icy.

"Do you expect me to feel sorry for you, to pat your head or comfort you or something? Are you looking for a shoulder to cry on?"

He crossed his arms over his chest, his lips curled with a disdainful expression.

"I thought you would give me useful information, tell me the secrets of the Gods, Yavres’s weak point."

Cassian’s red eyes shone. "I am not here to listen to your stupid, childish friendship story with a damn god or your traumas. My own traumas are enough for me."

Faced with this ruthless reaction from Cassian, Lilith let go of the swing’s chains and slowly stood up.

The melancholic expression on her face was wiped away in an instant, replaced by a sharp and dangerous seriousness.

She turned towards Cassian and took a step forward as if wanting to close the distance between them.

Cassian did not retreat. He stood calmly where he was.

The two were now nose to nose. Only a gap wide enough to breathe remained between them.

Lilith fixed her blood-red eyes on Cassian’s.

"You know very well why I told you this, my prince!"

Cassian frowned. "What are you trying to say, witch!"

He gritted his teeth.

Deep down, his soul knew very well what Lilith was implying, which wound she was picking at.

But he wanted to avoid this truth. Denying was easier than fighting.

Lilith brought her lips close to Cassian’s ear.

Her warm breath touched Cassian’s neck.

Lilith slowly raised her index finger and placed it on Cassian’s chest, right over his heart.

"You are in love with that woman, aren’t you?" she whispered like a poisonous snake.

"With the woman who uses you, who drives you like a pawn on the board... She doesn’t even care about playing you on her finger, wasting your life for nothing."

Cassian’s pupils trembled. "Shut up!"

He raised his hand and wanted to push Lilith harshly, to move away from her.

But his hand hit empty space.

Lilith suddenly turned into black smoke, slipped through Cassian’s fingers, and instantly appeared behind him.

Before Cassian could even understand what was happening, Lilith’s cold hand had already wrapped around his back and landed on his chest, over his heart.

Her other hand settled on Cassian’s cheek and gently turned his face towards herself. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"What do you love about her, honey?" asked Lilith, resting her chin on Cassian’s shoulder.

"Because she was your only friend while Toven tortured you, flayed your skin in that laboratory? Because she was the only voice whispering to you in that darkness?"

Cassian’s breathing quickened. These words were touching his nerves.

"Did you fall in love with her hugging you, stroking your hair? Did you fall for her fake affection?"

Lilith giggled, her voice echoing in Cassian’s mind.

"Or... Did you find her beautiful? Were you struck by her divine, unreachable beauty?"

With anger, Cassian turned his back and wanted to get rid of Lilith. He gathered his strength and made a move.

But the moment Cassian turned, Lilith pushed hard on his chest with the palm of her hand.

Cassian lost his balance and fell on his back onto the park’s grass.

Before he could recover, Lilith sat on his stomach gently but firmly.

Cassian tried to sit up, but Lilith extended the fingers of both her hands and interlaced them with Cassian’s fingers.

She spread his arms to the sides and pinned him to the ground.

Her black skirt had spilled over Cassian’s legs. Her white hair had spilled over Cassian’s face.

Lilith leaned towards Cassian. There was neither a joke nor a game expression on her face; only pure, obsessive desire.

"Tell me, my prince..." she said, her voice trembling. "What did you love about her enough to be her dog? What part of her did you get attached to enough to let her use you like a weapon?"

Cassian struggled.

He wanted to break free from Lilith’s delicate-looking hands.

He tried to use his abilities, tried to cast spells. But all his attempts failed.

This was Lilith’s mind, Lilith’s world. Here, Cassian’s power did not work unless Lilith allowed it.

"Do you want to deny it, honey?"

Lilith leaned in even closer.

They were eye to eye now and their lips were almost touching. Their breaths were mixing.

"We are both the same, Cassian!"

"You are making the same mistake I made. You are worshiping what will destroy you."

Her eyes shone.

"But for you... For you, there is still a chance to turn back. You don’t have to be like me."

She clasped her fingers tighter with Cassian’s.

"Just trust me," she whispered. "No one else!" "Just be attached to me, no one else!" "Just love me, no one else!"

A teardrop slid from her eye and fell on Cassian’s cheek.

"I will never abandon you," "I will never leave you halfway." "I will never betray you." "I will hide nothing from you." She rested her forehead against Cassian’s.

"In death or in life... In heaven or in hell... I will always be with you. Just be mine."

Cassian felt the coldness of the grass beneath him and the warmth of the woman on top of him.

His eyes looked at Lilith, trembling. His mind was about to stop. The obsessive words of this woman he hated had managed to seep into his heart in a way he never wanted.

"I hate you," Cassian whispered in a shaky tone.

Lilith smiled. "I love you too, Honey!"

Lilith leaned down, gently joining her lips with Cassian’s as if sealing the bond between them.

There was love, hate, possession, and desperation in this kiss. It was the sharing of a curse, the merging of a destiny.

After a moment that was short but felt like eternity, Lilith separated her lips from Cassian. She lessened the pressure on his fingers, pulled back.

As for Cassian, he didn’t try to escape, push, or shout this time.

He just continued lying there. His chest rose and fell as he looked at the sky, the gray clouds.

Seeing this surrendered state of his, a satisfied smile appeared on Lilith’s face.

"Promise me," whispered Cassian.

Lilith giggled.

"Wasn’t this kiss already our promise?"

She brought her finger to his lip.

"Maybe..." "You want another kiss?"

When Cassian didn’t answer and averted his eyes, the affection inside Lilith swelled.

She leaned down and hugged Cassian, who was still lying on the ground, tightly like hugging a child. She put her head on his chest.

"I promise, Honey."

After a while, the air had started to darken. Street lamps had lit up with a fizz, the city’s neon lights had come into play.

Lilith and Cassian were walking through the streets of the city.

Lilith held Cassian’s hand tightly, dragging him along like a child. Cassian followed her silently and obediently.

When the two arrived in front of a luxurious and tall building stretching to the sky in the center of the city, Lilith stopped.

"We’re here!" she said cheerfully and dragged Cassian towards the revolving door of the building.

Cassian looked up at the building. "Where is this place?" he asked, his voice tired.

Lilith smiled, her eyes shone.

"Where is it?" she said, as if it was something very obvious. "Did you expect us to spend the night outside, in the park or something? This is our home."

"Home?" Cassian frowned. "What home?"

But before he could ask anything again, Lilith had already pushed him inside and called the elevator.

When the elevator arrived, they got into the mirror-covered cabin.

Lilith looked at the rows of illuminated buttons on the elevator panel as if enchanted. Then, with a naughty smile on her face, she reached out her hand and...

From the bottom to the top, she pressed the buttons of all floors in order.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

The panel lit up like a Christmas tree.

"What are you doing?"

Lilith smiled, shrugged her shoulders.

"I’m getting on an elevator for the first time! They looked so fun."

"That doesn’t require you to press all the buttons,"

Lilith giggled and pinched Cassian’s cheek.

"What are you, some old grandpa? Don’t grumble. Try to have some fun! Look, lights are blinking!"

As the elevator stopped at every floor and opened its doors, Lilith giggled, and Cassian sighed.

Finally, the elevator paused on the 11th floor and the doors opened.

"Here it is!"

Lilith took Cassian’s hand and led him out. They walked down a long, luxurious corridor and stopped in front of apartment number 1104.

Lilith stood in front of a room, put her hand on the door handle, and pulled it down.

But the door didn’t open. It was locked.

Lilith paused. She forced the door. It wasn’t opening.

She turned and looked at Cassian, pursing her lips.

"Um... I think this is locked."

Cassian raised a single eyebrow. "Wasn’t this place our home? Don’t you have the key?"

"Key?" Lilith laughed.

She put her finger on the door lock, on the small keyhole. Her eyes glowed slightly.

A thin mass of blue ice grew from the tip of her finger and slithered into the hole.

The ice froze, taking the shape of the lock’s inner mechanism.

Lilith turned her finger slightly like a key.

"Click."

The lock opened.

Lilith melted and destroyed the ice on her finger and turned to Cassian. There was a proud expression on her face.

"After you, sir."

She opened the door. Inside was a stylish apartment, dark but furnished with modern furniture.

After both entered inside, Lilith closed the door. And then, turning the lock again, she locked it on them.

In the dark, she turned to Cassian with her red eyes shining.

"Welcome, honey," she whispered. "We are alone now."
