Chapter 650: Chapter 648: Earthworks Operation

Auburn City gradually settled into silence after the chaos, and on the flat land outside the city, Wizards Bata, Noel, Jenny, and Teddy looked at each other in bewilderment.

Originally, they were wondering if it wasn’t yet time for them to make a move, only to discover the battle had already ended.

Fast, too fast.

Actually, they didn’t care about the speed, what concerned them was that they seemed to be overlooked.

Yes, overlooked, and not just once.

In several previous battles, they had been little involved, their roles hovering between spectators and mascots, and this time it was even worse, they were reduced to mere onlookers for the whole show.

They were wizards!

"It’s the fourth time," the Herculean Wizard Bata broke the silence.

The others naturally knew what he was referring to, and the diminutive Wizard Noel said, "It seems we need to have a talk with Wizard Richard."

"Indeed, we need to talk," Witch Jenny agreed.

As the three of them finished speaking, their gazes simultaneously turned to the last person—Wizard Teddy.

Teddy was first taken aback, then spoke up warily, "What... what are you doing? Why are you all looking at me? You... you don’t mean to ask me to have a talk with Wizard Richard, do you?"

"Who else but you, who is closest to Wizard Richard, should go if not you?"

"But," Teddy hesitated, his tone lacking backbone, "but I think it’s not so bad the way it is now. No need to fight, no risks, isn’t it nice to be relaxed?"

"Don’t you want to gain some benefits from this war?"

"Don’t you want to increase your power in this battle?"

"When this battle is over, how do you plan to explain to Master Eva?"

"I..." Faced with a barrage of questions, Teddy found himself at a loss for words and sighed in resignation, "Alright, alright, I’ll go."

...

Inside a house in the city, Wizard Richard was unaware of Teddy and the others, listening to a report from Wu Long.

Wu Long reported, "We now have full control of the entire city, the mood amongst the civilians within is fairly stable, and it’s unlikely that any riots will occur."

"Hm," Richard nodded, then asked, "What about the enemy soldiers?"

"The enemy soldiers in the city have been cleared out," Wu Long said, "As far as we know, there were almost eight hundred defenders in the city. About two hundred suffered casualties, around three hundred fled the city toward the southeast direction, presumably heading for Klu City. The remaining two hundred or so have been taken captive and are locked up in the city’s prison."

At the end of his report, Wu Long looked to Richard, inquiring, "Master Wizard Richard, what do you think is the best course of action now? Do we recuperate here in the city, pursue the fleeing soldiers, or something else?"

Richard listened to the report but didn’t immediately respond. Instead, he took out a scroll from his robes and spread it out on a table in the room. It was a simple map with various locations marked, some crossed out and others circled.

His gaze settled on one of the circled locations, and after looking for a while, Richard asked with narrowed eyes, "Rocky Mountain is nearby, right?"

"Rocky Mountain? Ah, yes, it’s not far outside the city," Wu Long replied, somewhat confused as to why Richard suddenly asked about it.

Richard spoke, "If that’s the case, then let’s arrange it this way: keep the captives in the prison, leave a few dozen people to guard them, ensuring they have one meal a day—don’t starve them to death, but also don’t let them have too much energy to resist. Then select some people to stay in the city to maintain order; you can decide the specific number. The rest will follow me out of the city to Rocky Mountain to excavate something."

"To excavate something?" Wu Long was full of puzzlement.

Richard looked at Wu Long but didn’t explain. Instead, he calmly asked, "What, is there a problem?"

"Er, no," Wu Long quickly responded with a start, "no problem at all."

"That’s good. Go arrange it, the sooner the better."

"Yes."

...

Wu Long moved really fast.

So, by the time Teddy and his three companions entered the city, hoping to find Richard, he had already left.

"What? He went to the Rocky Mountains?" Obtaining the latest news from one of Wu Long’s subordinates, the four of them exchanged glances.

Filled with confusion, the three companions of Wizard Bata looked at each other, while Teddy’s eyes flickered as he guessed a possibility.

Shrinking his neck, Teddy flashed a grin and said to the others, "Hey, how about we stay in the city and wait for Wizard Richard to come back? Then we can have a good talk with him."

"Who knows when he’ll be back? Let’s go find him in the mountains," Witch Jenny said.

Teddy’s smile grew wider. "Are you serious?"

"What else?"

"Alright."

...

Atop the Rocky Mountains.

A large-scale excavation was underway, with hundreds of soldiers digging under command.

And they really dug up quite a few things:

There were carcasses of bizarre animals, similar in size to elephants, with bones so sturdy that swords couldn’t cause any noticeable damage.

There were Small Nobles’ graveyards, where the graves contained only a few shabby burial items.

There were chests buried at unknown times, half-rotted away, and whatever was inside them was gone, either taken by someone or decayed along with the chests.

But these were not what Richard sought. He was searching for one thing only, the site of Yadisi Village.

Based on his previous research at the Deep Blue Castle Library, he was now at a location farthest from Deep Blue Castle, a suspected site of Yadisi Village.

Although the chances of unearthing Yadisi Village were slim, he still wanted to try. If they indeed failed to find it, they could at least rule out one possibility and continue the excavation along other planned routes.

Richard thought this as his gaze rested on the soldiers who were digging.

Not far away, a group of soldiers was struggling to excavate a large rock from the soil. But due to the poor quality of their tools and insufficient strength, their faces were red with effort, and the rock remained unmoved. Without a choice, the soldiers had to call for more comrades to help, and with great effort, they finally unearthed the rock.

Honestly, the excavation conditions on the Rocky Mountains were harsh, with a lot of rocks in the soil, which made progress slow with just the power of the soldiers.

Then...

Turning his head, Richard looked to the side.

A hundred meters away, Bata, Noel, Jenny, and Teddy were discussing something. After a long discussion, Bata stepped forward, appearing to want to talk.

Richard raised an eyebrow, thinking: "Coming to me on their own accord? Well, I do have to thank you for that."

In that case...

"Tap tap tap..."

Footsteps sounded, and as Bata approached, he began, "Wizard Richard, there’s something I must discuss with you. You should be well aware that this war of revenge is everyone’s business. Your power is indeed great, but we are also participants. Not giving us the chance to take part like today isn’t quite fair, is it? Moreover, there’s also... Hmm?"

Bata stopped midsentence, suddenly unable to continue, because he saw a ring suddenly appear in Richard’s hand. The ring was studded with a dazzling gemstone and had intricate Magic Runes etched on its surface, clearly a very valuable piece of Magic Tools.

Richard handed the ring to Bata, who froze, blinking several times without comprehending, "Wizard Richard, what is this..."
