It had been two days since Darius had started putting the students of his class through the wringer.

If the 50 laps were already an overkill for most cadets before, now it was just a plain suicidal mission with the mana cuffs slipped onto their wrists.

Darius had told the cadets along with Aiden and Flynn who took two cuffs that if they ever felt like it was getting too hard, they could always take one cuff off.

However, one cuff had to stay on their hands for at least a week and at the max, two weeks before they took it off.

As if to also enforce those rules, a contractual spell had been placed on the cuffs, making it impossible to remove it until a condition of a week or two weeks had been met, an aftereffect of his [Rune Series] which he used to bind the cuffs to a similar set of rules.

The cadets who had also blindly followed Flynn and Aiden and had selected two cuffs too, couldn’t even maintain having the cuffs on them for more than a few hours before they ended up switching back to only one cuff.

The brothers however had a very good reason for selecting two cuffs.

Considering they perceived mana very differently compared to others and also had an immense mana pool due to their mana veins, they figured that having two cuffs on their being would serve as a very good training experience.

Now, on the third day after having their various classes, and it was now currently time for their lunch break, Ivar asked them as he walked side by side with them.

"You guys sure you’re alright?" he asked, nudging his head to the individual cuffs on their hands.

"It’s all good Ivar. We’re not people who would do something we can’t handle right?" Aiden answered with a rhetorical question of his own.

"That is true…" Ivar replied and glanced over to see Flynn gazing down at his smartwatch for some reason, a deep frown etched on his face.

The youth however was currently reading something that caught his attention on their academy’s forum.

NOTICE!

The award ceremony and banquet will now be postponed to the end of this month due to certain administrative issues. We sincerely apologize for the sudden change of plans.

’That’s not good… that’s not good at all…’ Flynn thought to himself, a worried look now replacing the previous frown on his face.

Aiden who had also noticed the switch in his brother’s facial expressions, couldn’t help but lean in to read whatever it was Flynn was currently viewing.

Upon also seeing the message, his expression also contorted into a frown immediately, surprising Ivar who was now getting quite curious by what could solicit such expressions from both of them.

However, Ivar who had finally leaned in to read the same information Flynn and Aiden were viewing, couldn’t understand what could solicit such expressions from them.

"It’s just a switch in dates right. Why are you guys so disturbed?" Ivar asked, a slight confusion noticeable in his tone.

Flynn however, seemingly having recovered from what was bothering him, instantly answered with a lie that seemed very plausible.

"You sure haven’t been to a banquet or being invited to one huh…" he began.

"Ivar, you do realize you’re now a very popular youth…" Flynn continued.

"Which means more date requests and a whole lotta mails to deal with…" he concluded.

"And if you haven’t realized, you’re very good looking too…" Aiden suddenly added after recovering from his previous demeanor, his lips now curling into a smile as he added a few more words.

"Not as handsome as yours truly though!" he declared shamelessly with a grin.

"But on a more serious note, if you thought the mails and date requests you were previously receiving was bad…"

"Then you’re in for a real hell of an even more stressful week ahead" Aiden seriously explained.

Ivar upon listening to their words, finally understood the dilemma he would soon be in.

First off, he couldn’t even dance so he needed someone to teach him, which was why he had kept refusing the dance and date requests he had been receiving regarding the award ceremony and banquet.

But now, he had no excuses because the time had been extended, which meant that he would need to find time to actually learn how to dance.

Secondly, now that the time had been extended for the ball, the mails and dance requests he had thought were quite a lot in his own opinion, would only increase even more.

In fact, just remembering how dead tired Aiden and Flynn looked just the night before attending the academy after they had spent the entire day replying to various marriage proposals, sent a slight wave of wariness through his entire being.

After the thoughts began to run through his head, Ivar’s expression now seemed quite similar to Aiden and Flynn’s previously, as it constantly switched between frowns and worried expressions.

Flynn and Aiden upon diverting Ivar’s attention to something else, couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty considering they lied to their close friend but it was a necessary lie.

What was really bothering them was something that was theirs to fix and only theirs to fix alone.

Now that Ivar was now dealing with a sudden conundrum of his own, both brothers slightly nodded to themselves and without actually saying anything, decided that they would discuss what they needed to do to later in the day.

Now, after finally reaching the cafeteria, Flynn’s gaze travelled across the wide hall, eventually landing on a male cadet with lustrous purple hair who had a bouquet of roses in his hands, get down on his knees while requesting for Ivelia’s hand to the award banquet.

’I can’t be having that!’ Flynn immediately said to himself, his previously guilty thoughts extinguishing in an instant.

Ivelia without even waiting for a second, bowed her head quickly while apologizing respectfully, simultaneously rejecting the male cadet who now had a devastated look on his face.

The lady then quickly walked over to the table a lot of their classmates were at and sat directly beside Caroline with a tired expression on her face.

"That makes it how many times this week you’ve had your hand requested for?" Caroline asked with an amused smile.

"I don’t even know anymore…" she answered tiredly, her hands opening the box of pocky sticks as she took one out and began to nibble on it.

"You both seem particularly undisturbed though…" she added with another tired comment.

"Well, we’re pretty much used to it at this point" Beatrice who was seated on Caroline’s other side answered casually.

Just as Ivelia was about to say something, she watched as Flynn appeared just in front of their table, his eyes calmly yet thoughtfully staring at her.

Ivelia blinked her eyes a few times and kept watching as Flynn continuously stared at her, her head slightly tilted questioningly.

’Hmm… he doesn’t have that glint in his eyes though…’ she thought to herself.

After a few more seconds had passed, the lady offered him a pocky stick.

"You want one Flynn?" she said to him, her hands offering the box to him.

Flynn however, instead of just picking one of the sticks, moved close to Ivelia and bit the one that was currently in her mouth, his lips a few centimeters away from hers.

Ivelia who had not expected this sudden move from him had her eyes widen in complete and utter bewilderment, her cheeks and ears reddening in an instant.

The ladies at the table along with almost every other person in the cafeteria just stared at both of them in utter shock, some of their mouths even agape.

Flynn however after gazing into Ivelia’s eyes which was just a few centimeters from his for a few more seconds, finally bit off the portion of the pocky stick his mouth was on, his lips curling into a genuinely mischievous smile along with a similar glint in his eyes.

"You did tell me to up my game after all. I’ve missed that expression of yours Ivelia" he quietly whispered to her ears with an even more knavish smile.

Following that, the youth left the cafeteria, leaving Ivelia completely dazed and unable to comprehend just what had happened along with the rest of the cadets present there.

"You really just sent a message today, didn’t you?" Aiden asked his brother with a hearty laughter as they dashed in between branches of trees.

"I never pegged you for a jealous person Flynn!" the black-haired youth added with another burst of laughter, his hair fluttering in the wind as he leaped off of another branch.

Flynn on the other hand didn’t say anything in response to his brother’s words but still, a small smile was plastered on his face as Aiden spoke to him.

They had both taken a quest to forage some lakelight blossoms, a peculiar plant requested for by the alchemy department in Sector 3 from the quest board of the academy, for which a total of 300 credits would be issued once they had it procured and submitted.

They were now also currently at Sector 3, but to be specific, they were at the hall and event’s district.

Among the many halls here, Astral Hall was where the award ceremony and banquet was going to take place.

Now, asides from being one of the most beautiful and glamorous halls, the area around Astral Hall was encircled by small thicket of forest which was usually referred to as the ’Whispering Grove’ due to how it provided a sense of seclusion and tranquility.

That was where they would find the certain plant they were tasked to retrieve but that wasn’t the real reason they had taken the quest.

The forest itself consisted of tall and seemingly ancient trees with canopies of vibrant, emerald green leaves which widely stretched branches that provided shade.

Adding to that, was a beautiful glade amidst the thicket that featured soft, moss-covered ground that provided a perfect spot for meditation and a calming solace in nature’s embrace.

Just nestled outside this picturesque setting was a serene lake with a very still and crystal clear surface of water that just added more to the natural beauty of the forest.

This lake was also where Flynn and Aiden were actually headed.

According to the contents of the novel, a fissure break was going to happen at the lake just two weeks after the award ceremony and banquet was held.

The monsters coming out of the fissure break would then kill and massacre a good number of people and cadets alike who were unfortunate enough to be around the hall and event district at the time.

Aiden and Flynn had previously decided to deal with it just a week before it happened because the fissure was only rated C-rank before the break occurred.

But now, the banquet had suddenly been pushed to the end of the month, exactly around the same timespan the fissure break would occur.

Another butterfly effect had occurred again and compared to the previous one, (case-in-point; the entrance exams) where they weren’t too worried, this was one they couldn’t joke with at all.

If peradventure the break happened on the exact day of the ball, it would result in an even worse tragedy.

"We should almost be there Aiden" Flynn said to his brother, to which Aiden nodded slightly in response.

However, just before jumping to another branch, both brother’s heard a female voice shouting a familiar individual’s name.

"Derek!"
