Chapter 244: Rank 2

Months passed.

Fenric and Liana stayed in Myser City.

Day by day, they worked.

Grey Rank tasks became routine.

Delivery.

Scouting.

Low-risk guard duty.

Fenric never failed a task.

No delays.

No complaints.

No wasted effort.

The guild noticed.

Grey turned to Bronze.

Bronze turned to Silver.

Time moved quietly, but progress was steady.

Fenric grew stronger.

Level after level.

Refinement after refinement.

By the time summer ended, his status had changed.

Level: 100

Rank: 1(peak)

Aura Quality: High Bronze, nearing Silver

Even the guild staff treated him differently now.

One morning, Liana folded a notice and placed it on the table.

"This is what we’ve been waiting for," she said.

Fenric read it carefully.

Arena Hunt Request

Target: Captured Rank 3 beasts

Purpose: Material extraction and refinement rewards

Fenric looked up. "Arena beasts?"

"Yes," Liana replied. "Controlled fights. Guild-sanctioned. Dangerous, but clean."

"And the reward?" Fenric asked.

Liana tapped the paper. "Aura Refinement Circle materials. High-grade ones."

Fenric’s eyes narrowed slightly.

This wasn’t just work.

This was a step forward.

"If you clear this," Liana continued, "you can request the Beast core you need for your own personal Aura Refinement Circle."

Fenric nodded, after all he is at level 100 and he is not leveling up cause he need to upgrade his Aura quality to SIlver before reaching rank 3 for maximum potential.

"Its like looking for sleep and someone gave you apillow" he said.

"I know," Liana replied. "That’s why we’re doing this together."

They went to the guild arena wing that same day.

The place was larger than the testing grounds.

Stronger barriers.

Thicker walls.

Other adventurers were there.

Some watching.

Some preparing.

A guild official approached them.

"Fenric. Liana," he said. "You’re registered as a duo. Arena Beast Trial, Rank 3."

Fenric nodded. "Understood."

"You will face three beasts," the official continued. "One at a time. Defeat required. No assistance from staff."

"And the circle materials?" Liana asked.

"Granted upon completion," the official replied.

They were led into the arena chamber.

The gates closed behind them.

The floor was reinforced stone.

Runes glowed faintly underfoot.

Fenric rolled his shoulders once.

No nerves.

No rush.

Just focus.

Liana drew her weapon and took position beside him.

"Same rules as always," she said. "Control first."

Fenric nodded. "Always."

A horn sounded.

The first gate across the arena began to rise.

Something moved in the shadows.

Fenric’s Aura stirred, calm but ready.

The gate lifted fully.

The first beast stepped out.

A Rank 3 Ironhide Boar.

Its body was massive.

Dark gray skin like layered plates.

Tusks curved forward, thick and sharp.

It snorted and scraped the ground.

"Fast charger," Liana said calmly. "Heavy front."

Fenric nodded.

He reached over his shoulder and drew his bow.

Simple design.

Well used.

Golden Aura flowed into the bowstring, thin and steady.

Not flaring.

Not leaking.

The boar charged.

The stone floor cracked under its hooves.

Fenric didn’t move at first.

He waited.

Three steps.

Two.

One.

He released.

The arrow flew straight.

Golden Aura wrapped it tight.

It struck the boar’s left eye and pierced deep.

The beast roared and veered off, smashing into the side wall.

Before it could recover, Liana moved.

Wind Aura burst from her feet.

She rushed forward, spear spinning once.

She drove it into the gap behind the boar’s front leg.

Air pressure exploded inward.

The boar collapsed with a heavy crash.

Silence.

The official’s voice echoed. "First beast defeated."

Fenric exhaled once.

Clean.

Efficient.

The second gate opened.

This one moved slower.

A Rank 3 Flameclaw Lizard emerged.

Long body.

Red scales.

Claws burning faintly with heat.

It hissed and spread its limbs.

"Mid-range," Liana said. "Fire breath."

"I’ll pin it," Fenric replied.

He drew two arrows this time.

Golden Aura split cleanly between them.

The lizard inhaled.

Fenric released.

Both arrows struck its shoulders at the same time.

Aura detonated outward—not explosive, but binding.

The beast slammed to the ground, limbs stuck.

Fire spilled harmlessly into the air.

Liana stepped in.

Her spear thrust forward.

Wind Aura compressed at the tip.

She drove it straight through the lizard’s skull.

The flames died instantly.

"Second defeated," the official announced.

Fenric felt his Aura steady.

No strain.

No loss of control.

The final gate rose.

This one opened slowly.

Heavy chains rattled.

A Rank 3 Beastlord Ape stepped out.

Tall.

Muscular.

Eyes sharp with intelligence.

It grabbed a broken stone slab and hurled it.

Fenric jumped back as it shattered where he stood.

"This one thinks," Liana said.

Fenric raised his bow again.

"This one adapts," he replied.

The ape roared and rushed Liana.

Fenric fired.

The arrow hit its shoulder.

The beast twisted, reducing the damage.

It learned.

Liana blocked a heavy punch with her spear shaft and slid back.

"Fenric," she said. "Together."

He nodded.

Golden Aura flowed stronger now—but still controlled.

He fired upward.

The arrow curved slightly, guided by Aura.

Liana leapt.

Wind Aura surged under her feet, lifting her high.

The arrow struck the ape’s knee.

It staggered.

Liana came down like a spear of air.

Her weapon pierced straight through the ape’s chest.

Fenric fired one last arrow.

Golden Aura pierced the beast’s head.

The ape fell backward, unmoving.

The arena went quiet.

Then—

"Hunt complete," the official said. "All targets defeated."

The gates opened.

Guild staff entered to secure the bodies.

One of them carried a sealed container.

"Beast Core," the official said, handing it to Fenric. "Rank 3. High quality."

Fenric took it carefully.

He could feel the power inside.

Stable.

Dense.

"This will work," Liana said.

"Yes," Fenric replied. "This is exactly what I needed."

The official nodded. "You may apply for a personal Aura Refinement Circle immediately."

Fenric looked down at the core.

Level 100.

No further growth without refinement.

Now, the path was open.

"Let’s go," he said.

Liana smiled slightly.

They left the arena and returned to the inn before night.

Both of them were tired, but satisfied.

They ordered simple food and sat at a corner table.

Fenric placed the sealed container with the Beast Core between them.

He didn’t open it.

Just looked at it.

"This feels different," he said. "Not like a task. More like a turning point."
