Chapter 26: Sparring Session

Inside the training facility, there were multiple sparring platforms which allowed many battles to be conducted at the same time.

"Students! Finally, the time has come for which you have been so eager. Today we will have a sparring session that you all were so excited about." Here, her own voice sounded more excited than the students.

That didn’t mean the students were not excited. They were also excited about this. But a few of them were more worried, just like Noah. He was worried about whom he would be paired up with.

Practice weapons in the training facility were made of wood and carbon fiber to make this class a little less painful for the students.

Noah didn’t mind fighting anyone... except the main cast.

But somehow luck was not on his side.

Unfortunately, he was paired up with Leonard.

Noah checked the notice he got on the academy mobile app. In just a few seconds, his opponent was chosen randomly.

’Guess... I have to give my all.’

Other battles had already started.

Some distance away from him, the protagonist Damien was fighting against Kaelan. And as expected, Kaelan was having a hard time against him.

While the female lead, or more like the female protagonist of this game, Lyria, was fighting against Arisha. Out of all female leads, she had a more major role. But what it was, he didn’t know.

Noah really wanted to watch their spar. Of course, it had nothing to do with their beauty or figures.

But currently, Aisha Willow was having the upper hand in battle.

While Emma was fighting against a student named Elijah, and so on.

Young students sparred against each other, bonding and enjoying themselves for a little while.

What about Noah? Yes, he was also standing on a sparring platform now.

In front of him stood a tall, muscular blonde-haired man. In his hand was a huge greatsword. Of course, not a real one, but a practice weapon.

’I guess it would have been better if the one fighting me was the female lead...’ Noah sighed in disappointment.

"Hello Leonard! Long time no see!"

Leonard didn’t say anything for a while, then nodded slightly. "Yes. Long time no see, Noah. Let’s stop greeting and just fight."

The young man held the hilt of his greatsword tightly.

Noah was holding a practice sword. He got into a stance, raising his sword.

Leonard smirked and vanished from his position.

He had dashed towards Noah.

He was fast, fast enough that Noah couldn’t follow him. But Noah didn’t back down or get afraid.

Clang! 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"Argggh!"

His sword met against the blade of the huge greatsword.

The force in that strike was so strong that Noah was slightly pushed back.

’How is he moving so fast with a huge sword?!’

The sparring for today was the first time. So they were only supposed to fight with weapons, without using any mana or magic.

Even those who heavily relied on magic, like some mages, were fighting with weapons.

It was necessary. Whatever profession one might have, they still needed to know how to use other weapons or skills, at least on basic levels.

But Leonard didn’t give Noah even a moment to think.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Another series of heavy strikes rained down.

Each swing of Leonard’s greatsword carried terrifying force. Even though it was a practice weapon, the sheer weight behind it made Noah’s arms tremble every time he blocked.

Noah gritted his teeth.

’He’s too fast... too strong...’

Leonard stepped in again, his footwork precise. He twisted his body and brought the blade down from above.

BOOM!

Noah barely managed to raise his sword in time. The impact echoed across the platform.

"Argh!"

His knees bent slightly from the pressure.

Leonard didn’t stop. He pulled back instantly and swung horizontally.

Noah ducked.

The blade whooshed past just above his head.

Before Noah could even stand properly.

Thud!

Leonard’s knee slammed into his stomach.

"Ghh—!"

Noah staggered backward, gasping for air.

Leonard didn’t chase immediately this time. He watched Noah with calm, sharp eyes.

"You’re slow. Try to do better," he said coldly.

Noah wiped the corner of his mouth and smirked faintly. "Is that so... well, I will try then."

Leonard’s eyes narrowed. In the next instant, he disappeared again. Noah’s pupils shrank.

’Left!’

Clang!

He barely turned in time to block. The impact pushed him sideways. Leonard rotated his grip and struck again from another angle.

Clang!

Then again.

Clang!

Noah was completely on the defensive now.

Each attack came from a different direction—above, side, diagonal. Leonard’s control over his weapon was terrifying.

Maybe if it was the old Noah, he would have lost instantly. But currently, Noah had been training diligently since he got transmigrated.

Noah tried to counter once. He pushed Leonard’s blade away and swung toward his torso.

But Leonard stepped back effortlessly. The attack missed.

A second later.

BAM!

The flat side of the greatsword slammed into Noah’s shoulder.

"Agh!"

Noah stumbled, losing balance. ’Damn it! I can’t even land a single hit!’

Leonard advanced again, not giving him space. Another downward strike. Noah rolled to the side this time.

BOOM!

The sword hit the platform, leaving a visible crack.

Noah quickly got up and dashed forward. ’If I stay defensive, I’ll lose for sure!’

He aimed for Leonardo’s side. A quick thrust. But Leonard reacted instantly. He twisted his body and parried.

Clang!

Then followed up with a kick.

Thud!

Noah was sent sliding back. His grip loosened slightly on his sword. His arms were shaking now. His breathing grew heavier.

’This guy... he’s on a different level.’

Leonard walked toward him slowly this time. He was not in rush. But complete control.

"You’re trying," he said calmly. "But it’s not enough."

Noah smirked again despite the situation. "Yeah, I know that."

Leonard didn’t reply. He raised his sword. His physical strength and speed far surpassed Noah’s.

Then Leonard vanished again. This time, Noah couldn’t track him instantly.

’Behind—?!’

A presence behind him. But Noah predicted it too late.

BOOM!

The blade struck his back. "ARGH!" Noah was sent crashing forward, falling hard onto the platform.

THUD!

His sword slipped from his hand and slid a few feet away. He tried to push himself up.

But his arms gave out for a moment. Leonard stepped forward and placed the tip of his greatsword near Noah’s neck.
