Chapter 446: Not Possible...

Axel naturally did not wait for the worst to happen. And it was apparent who was coming for his life. However, his foot stopped for a small moment as he looked at all the countless dead bodies of 3rd and 4th-phase powerhouses that lay outside the mansion.

A cruel smile flashed in his eyes, and he hurriedly threw a round-shaped artifact to Gareth.

"200 meters ahead, there is a single-use mono-directional teleportation formation. Hurry up and activate it. I’ll be with you in a moment," stated Axel.

Gareth wanted to say something, but in the end, he kept his mouth shut and just did what he was told. There was no time to argue at this moment. As a 4th-phase being who carried the Seed of Obsession, his intuition was also powerful; he could feel the immense danger brushing against his skin, the power of a colossal 5th-phase being about to swallow his senses.

Running at full speed, he found the hidden teleportation circle; the object in his hand started to glow, and he instantly stepped into the middle of the teleporting circle.

The circle lit up with energy and started to beat rhythmically; meanwhile, the danger seemed to grow closer and closer and closer...

Gareth’s heartbeat grew louder and louder, and this sense of danger was far, far stronger than when he had faced the Ghostly Death Knight back in the academy. He could not help but curse at what Axel was doing.

The circle of teleportation was already activated, moments away from flashing him away at the predestined location.

Just as the anxiousness and fear within him reached their peak, he saw a black figure rush towards him at incomparable speed. But he could also see something else: a terrifying thunderstorm of mind-numbing magnitude was converging on the skies, ready to crash down on the running figure and incinerate him from the face of existence.

The shadow of the black clouds chased Axel as he ran, and he did not look back; he kept running at maximum speed, using all the demonic power he could muster. If he dared to stop, it would be certain death.

Just one second before the teleportation would activate, he barely reached that point, and Gareth stopped him on that circle using all of his strength; otherwise, they would both be flung away.

Swosh!!!!

Through a collapsing spatial tunnel that seemed to defy all laws of physics and common sense, both of their bodies were stretched like a rubber band by that inconceivable pathway that existed between the void and the material universe.

BANG!!!

Until they both had their bodies slammed onto the ground with immense force, and they both realized that they were out of the space tunnel.

"Arghh...."

"Damn IT...."

They both let out pained grunts, not because of smashing onto the ground, but rather, they were seriously injured from traveling through a chaotic space tunnel. Gareth looked at Axel like a madman and spoke in apprehension, "Have you lost your damn mind? Setting up a teleportation through an un-solidified space pathway, it’s even a wonder that we survived?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Axel laughed as he removed his mask and returned to his human form. "Sorry, but otherwise Mason Vex could easily follow through with the space trail; he would have been able to stop the teleportation mid-way, successfully capturing us literally."

Gareth sighed in exasperation. That was also true. The sensation of death was so very close that it felt like death had almost swallowed him completely.

Axel looked around and said with a hint of lingering dread, "It seems we’re in the Dire forest, thankfully. We need to return to my family’s state immediately. Mason Vex will definitely have the Nomrad family as the prime suspect. What he will do in rage is still uncertain...."

Gareth turned towards him and asked with a frown, "Just what did you even do in those last few moments..."

Axel only smiled darkly, but did not elaborate further...

***

Half an hour earlier -

Mason Vex, with his family forces, was patrolling the borders of the kingdom with a calm and cold expression. His eyes saw countless miles ahead in all directions. He began to think about the moment he had warned Balen strongly that a hidden enemy was most likely targeting their family.

Though he himself did not seriously believe that someone would dare attack his family in the open, he just felt that it was better to be cautious when considering the sudden assassination of Talon. Mason did not honestly care much about that boy’s death; he only felt greatly enraged about how Talon’s corpse was dismembered.

At the same time, he was also reminded of his own son’s death; they weren’t even able to find his corpse. His heart ached greatly every time the thought surfaced, yet there was nothing he could do against the ghost race, no matter how aggrieved he was. More than that, as the Family Head, it would not look good if he became too lost in grievance and or the desire for revenge.

Even with all of his power, he was helpless. Unless he had specific knowledge of who had killed his son or Talon.

His biggest concern was whether the Ghost race was secretly targeting his family for unknown reasons. Though the possibility of it was minimal, it still existed.

But he quickly dispelled that thought; King Leonidas himself was keeping an eye on the entire kingdom.

If any outside forces dared to enter and take any outrageous actions, it won’t end well for them.

To his misfortune, before that self-reassuring thought. could even solidify; he abruptly found an artifact in his fingers, glowing deep red. An artifact that indicated that ’Balen Vex was dead...’

The shock he felt from that revelation could not be described with mere words. If youngsters of the family died, they could be grown again. But the already-developed experts were irreplaceable, let alone someone of Balen’s caliber, whom he had left in charge of the family in his absence and most of its military forces.

But an even more concerning fact was what his death represented at such a time. Moments after that, another one of his rings glowed in violent intensity, and he nearly lost his mind in rage. It meant that someone was actually messing with the Rune Vault.

But there was no time for an emotional outburst. Mason brought out a teleportation artifact, linking it with the teleport gateway in his mansion, intending to directly teleport. However, it was blocked entirely, and the 5th-phase powerhouses’ expressions finally showed signs of panic.

"NO, No, No, IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE," he shouted in terror.

How could anyone possess the means to bypass his own rune formations? It should not be possible. Mason’s face turned cold as he immediately flew away from the borders; his figure was like a meteor shooting through the skies, tearing away the clouds.
