"Look like they would need your help"

"I see" Hilda replied with a deadpan expression. She was a bit annoyed since she could already see the situation ahead. Nine people that surround the circle building are being surrounded themself. However, most of them still hold their ground despite being disadvantaged in number.

Just a glance she could tell that they were most likely the chosen that this village called. Since some of them used ice power to cut down enemies. The northern tribe seemed to have a strong connection with ice, akin to the sun church having a strong connection with fire.

Hilda quickly took action, there were around 15 monsters she had to deal with. A mix of both deer and wolf. Her first victim would be a deer that was actuating the three people defending the front ate since it would pose an imminent threat to the people inside if it got through.

The knife cut through the air and arrived at the deer’s neck. As usual, the monster thinks skin couldn’t be understated. The knife has only penetrated a little bit, not enough to disrupt the deer’s breathing.

However, when a red thread from Hilda quickly delivers her pain to the deer, rendering it unresponsive. The chosen take this opening and cut the deer and fox down.

"Thank you, maid!"

The chosen at the front said, after receiving help from Hilda. The other saw that she was an empire people and quietly nodded. They didn’t want to be caught thanking the empire people who had taken so many lives of their comrades.

"Go help the other"

Hilda didn’t care about their rude gesture and urged them to help the side. If the people there called they would be dealing with more and more monsters.

"We can’t leave this post... It’s the chief’s order."

Hilda sighed as she looked at the chosen guard. He didn’t seem like much, but he was strict when it came to following commands. Hilda could sympathize; she’d once been a maid who lived by orders. However, she knew better than anyone that blindly following orders wouldn’t get you far.

"Help them. If they get killed, then you’re next."

She tried to nudge him into action but gave up after seeing the confidence on his face—likely from pride in being ordered by the renowned Forst. He had long heard tales of the famous hunter, and this was his first mission from him. He was determined to fulfill it to the best of his ability.

Hilda ignored him and moved around, dealing with the other deer. Before long, they finally managed to breathe a sigh of relief.

Hilda’s success wasn’t only due to her skill but also her timing. Had the deer and wolves not already been fighting the chosen, finding an opening would have been much harder. But with their backs exposed, they were easy targets. Her ability to deliver pain intrigued those in power, but few had witnessed it outside the Antores family and the village tribe.

Looking inside, Hilda spotted Theia and Leon among the crowd. People inside quickly approached her, eager for news of the battle outside. She simply nodded and told them it was over.

The people in the town center erupted in celebration. Most of them weren’t chosen, so the relief among the ordinary folk was palpable. They danced around and overall were happy to still be alive.

"Hilda!"

Theia sprang up from the floor and ran to her, throwing her arms around Hilda in a hug.

On the other side of the battlefield, Egul fought with all his might, but it wasn’t enough. The trees in the distance were now guiding the deer and wolves, forming combat tactics.

With these changes, Egul’s task became much harder. The deer and wolves grew more aggressive, but the most dangerous opponent was the tree.

If he hadn’t encountered them before, he would have been shocked by such a creature, and even more troubled by the way its powers worked. Sensing that the village was a lost cause, Egul abandoned his post and headed toward the village center.

There, he encountered the guards at the front of the main building. Their eyes lit up upon seeing him.

"Sir, are we done here?"

Egul was a fifth-circle warrior. One of the most skillful in their village these guards were exceptionally skilled. They were the ones that could turn the tide of battle by themself. He’d expected the battle would be over by now.

"No, I’ve failed. We need to move out," Egul said with a straight face. The guards hesitated, thinking he might be joking, but his expression made the urgency clear. Then the chuckle from the guard turns into shock. They couldn’t believe that their leader would need to retreat.

"Quick!"

he commanded, chuckling slightly at their stunned expressions. One of the guards ran inside and returned with the villagers who had been hiding.

"We need to leave," Egul explained, focusing especially on the threat posed by the tree. He didn’t want anyone to fall prey to its hidden eyes of the trees.

Moments later, Egul disappeared again, reappearing with a woman at his side. Hilda could tell immediately that the woman held a high rank; there was a certain demeanor about her, one she recognized from seeing countless nobles. This woman was likely one of the village chiefs.

"Today, we will leave the village!" the woman announced, rallying the people. "The enemy has surrounded us, and we have no choice but to yield. But we will return and reclaim what is ours!"

Even in retreat, she needed to inspire courage. Northern people would not follow a command unless it held a touch of defiance. Some people couldn’t change their mood, just a second ago they were celebrating their wins and now they had to move out of the village due to formidable opponents.

Still, a cheer rose from the tribesmen as they heard their chief’s words. Though uneasy about abandoning the village, they felt reassured by her promise to reclaim it.

They packed their belongings and followed the female chief’s lead.
