Extra's Perfect Ending-Chapter 255: Moving southward
The morning had been treating them quite well. The sleep was refreshing and the night watch had been peaceful. Now they just need to travel down south to escape Duranberg. They needed three days to reach the capital from this route, which was only one day longer than the original route.
After they packed up their thing, it was time for them to move out. The group followed the road for about half a day until they encountered their first deer blocking their way. The group of knights encircled it and quickly took it down.
However, after that, they encounter two more deers blocking their way out. They did the same thing and easily got rid of the deer in the way. However, after the second time, the group started to notice a pattern.
The third time came and they encountered four deers blocking their way. Quin quickly stepped in and killed all of the deer before they wasted any more time. However, the first two times had already still them enough so that they would need an extra day of travel.
As the sun set again, Quin came up to Reeva.
"Your Holiness, we might need to go into the forest"
It’s clear to any person that they’re blocking the way out of this place. So the only way they could pass through here was either change to another route and take another day or take the forest route that would add a way to your journey. No matter what they would be delayed.
However, it’s much better than fighting another group of deer. Even though they could easily dispatched by a group of knights wielding a sword to the holy torch. It would still take a bit of time to halt the civilians and deal with the deer. They had already lost one day like this, worse they would likely be fighting more deer on the road.
And that’s only like 7 of them they had to deal with throughout the day, if something that commanded the deer set up more ambushed ahead, then they would be in a tough situation.
"Let’s take to the forest"
They would be slowing down for another day or two taking the forest route, but it did have the advantage of being hard to predict where they went. This would ensure that they don’t have to fight more monsters on the way.
They set up camp outside of the normal route in case some deer stumble upon them. At night, they only had one visitor which was the owl, for shot by one of the knights because he was paranoid.
The group then starts to move out of the trading route and into the forest. Quin takes the lead like always, guiding along through the dense forest. At half a day they quickly realized that this was much slower than they anticipated.
The trading route was built to make traveling convenient for horses and carriages alike. They often had no bumps, holes, or any major obstruction. But now that they take to the forest, all of those things become very annoying to deal with.
Maybe if the group was like 4-5 horses, they could maintain the same speed as before but the group of knights and village slow the travel time to a crawl. Moreover, some of the horses got trapped in a hunter’s pit!
Now some of the horses need to be healed by their priest, losing another valuable faith that the priest had.
That day, the sun hung high in the sky, trying to pierce through the grey weather but it was no use. The winter was too strong. However, it still gave off enough light that let Reeva see the thing that was blocking their way.

After traveling for half a way, they arrive at the walls of Thorn. It was a collection of thorn vines that stretched across the land. It was as tall as the city wall and dense enough that you couldn’t see the end of it.
The human body could maybe be passed through the thorn but the horse very much can’t. The wall was by no means, impenetrable. Because it was a collection of vines, there was a gap inside the plants itself.
"How long would it take to walk on foot?"
Reeva considered abandoning the horse since they could fit inside. However, Quin’s words made him reconsider.
"It would take us double the time to get there. However, there is no guarantee of how wide this wall would be so I couldn’t get an accurate estimate. If the wall extends far abound here then be prepared for a long walk, but if this was all there was to it, it would still be taken 8-10 days on foot after we passed the wall. Our supplies won’t last that long."
"Then we will have to find another way"
Getting out of their house felt like a certain death. Moreover, there could also be a deer squad waiting for them to cross the wall and then kill them all. The more he thought about it the worse it became. The vine was likely the doing of the roots.
It used its resources to construct a massive wall, which would take something to recover. That means if he could find the root, then this wall would be no more.
However, it’s easier said than done. The root was always underground, and even though ti real body was fragile it totally made up of versatile vines and enhanced animals. They then decide to go west, the see which way the wall ended.
The mountain of the Duranberg was not as big or grand as The frost fang peaks, however, the shallow sloop was really hard for the horse to travel. And just like that, the day had come to an end as they set u camp.
"So what did you do before you became the apostle?"
The priest and some knight huddled around the campfire, leaching off the earth that it gave. The story that they listened to was a bonus.
