Extra's Perfect Ending-Chapter 268: Wooden menace
The brain was what made a human a human without it, only a husk of flesh would be left. However, that delicate part of the human body had been replaced by a little monster that coiled itself inside the cranium.
Its body was dark and slimy, and the skull that inhabited it twisted it into a weird shape resembling that of a screw. Luckily when Qui bisected the thing, he cut it in half. Otherwise, there might be a body-switching action going on here.
"Thank you, apostle"
No one would question the church after seeing what was inside the man. The disgusting thing however was still twitching like it was alive, Quin quickly cut in more until it didn’t move.
"We need to move"
Realizing his fatal mistake Reeva needed to correct it. They had brought one of the mutants in here and from experience, they would swarm them if they didn’t act quickly. The people were still in disarray, horrified of the monster in human form. They started to look at each other with wary eyes, especially the people who had injuries related to the mutant.
"Don’t worry, normal injuries won’t turn people into a monster"
Reeva tried to calm them down but their face still didn’t change.
"I don’t mean to question the apostle’s word but, could you mind sharing how to tell them apart? I talked to that guy earlier and I didn’t notice anything wrong."
The apostle also fell for the trick. Its body could easily be checked by Reeva or Quin using coldness. When they first discovered but its acting easily passed the human test.
"I don’t but if you suspect any person, they should report to a priest, who will check the condition. Don’t worry, if there were an anomaly with the injured people then we would have discovered it long ago."
That statement seemed to calm them down.
"Then could we test them first?"
The villager pointed at the knight that got presently impaled by vines, Flolo. Reeva turned to Max and nodded. The healing priest got closer to him and spread his coldness inside. Then he discovered nothing wrong with the body and shook his head.
Flolo heaved a sigh of relief, he had surveyed through grave injuries, and if he died right after it would be a disappointing fate for him.

"If this is already clear then we move! the mutant animals are likely on their way to the camp!"
They packed up their things and were about to leave when a group of people arrived. They looked a normal villager but they were everything but. Their eyes looked at the group without blinking. and by this point, it’s pretty clear that they were the same as the hunter earlier. A being without its brain.
"Knight at the front!"
The appearance of these people sped up the packing process of the villagers. And within a minute they finished picking up all their stuff. However, the brainless people strangely stay in place, watching them prepare to leave.
Reev knew that there wasn’t anything good about this. And he was right because a moment later the tree finally appeared among the wood. The flesh tree that most of them had no idea what it could do.
"Run!"
But Reeva knew full well what it could do. It basically got a range version of the vine ability and was more powerful since it only took a second for people to transform into a twisted pile of meat.
Horses started galloping at a fast speed, kicking up snow wherever they went. However, it was painfully low when navigating inside a forest.
As always Reeva and Max were at the front of the squad, leading them to escape the humans behind them. But this time, Quin was behind, ready to strike anything that got close to them.
After seeing them run, the people lit out a light smile all at the same time then they used their superior stretch to hop onto the tree branch. This way they could avoid the now and tee entirely by jumping from tree to tree.
It was a horrifying sight watching humans jump uncannily far and land on a tree. They were nowhere near as powerful as a fifth circle mystic but they had enough power to maintain their jump on trees.
They quickly catch up to them with no tree, snow, or terrain on their way. However, they had to think twice if they wanted to jump down. Quin was behind the whole group, really to slice anyone that got close.
After one or two guys get sliced after jumping down, the people maintain the distance. Jumping only to catch up with the group, but not close enough for Quin to have a way to slice them. Of course, he could also hot out the light arc, but after one or two shots, the people back out again.
This time he had no way of accurately aiming at the tree people on horseback. They were locked in a stalemate with them not doing anything. However, Reeva also scrambled to find a place they could run to. The vine wall has been to be locking the whole Duranbergdown. If they ran along the wall, then maybe they could find a way out.
However, their chance is low. since the vines were rather problematic for Reeva to deal with. His power was not built to clear a massive space, it was meant to combat mystic people or creatures one-on-one.
"Max, where’s the saintress?"
"Her Highness was in Guragua in the last report. Her party was set up in Guna plains It should take us two days to reach them."
This was definitely their best option now. He had heard from the pope that the saintess was accompanied by two six-circle mystics. They would sure have a way to deal with these monstrosities, at least more than Reeva.
"Head north!"
Reeva yelled and led them northward. They ran for another hour without stopping. NAd they finally found a road that would take them north faster than the forest.
