Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 30: The Duel That Ended Everything
Chapter 30: The Duel That Ended Everything
Ren was woken from the beautiful embrace of sleep by a sharp knock on his door.
He sat up as the sound echoed through the room, a year of training forcing him to awareness in an instant.
He rubbed his eyes, already alert, as the knocking continued.
His candle had burned low and was out, and from what he could see through the cracks in his windows, it was early morning.

"Lord Ren." Thorn's voice called from the other side of the door. "You're wanted."
Ren swung his legs over the edge of the bed and exhaled, yawning as he moved to open the door.
Thorn stood there, arms crossed, his usual smirk in place, though there was a flicker of concern in his eyes.
"My Lord, I was woken by Lady Lilith's guard, Sir Elias. Lady Lilith has extended an invitation for you." Thorn said, glancing sideways down the hall.
"Come in." Ren said with a yawn, walking back into the room.
Thorn walked in, closing the door behind him. "She wants you to join her in the estate's private training grounds."
Ren raised an eyebrow as he moved to dress himself. "An invitation? In the training grounds? Is she planning a challenge or something?"
Thorn chuckled. "Maybe an execution."
Ren snorted as he pulled on his shirt. "You think she'd kill me?"
"No," Thorn said, leaning against the wall, "but she is dangerous. You've heard the stories. I don't need to tell you that her Gift isn't something to take lightly."
Ren fastened his belt, glancing at Thorn. "And yet, I'm still going."
Thorn shook his head. "I knew you'd say that. But listen. Girls like her don't invite people to spar unless they're trying to prove something."
"If she's testing you, fine. But if she's out to humiliate you? Or worse, if she's trying to push you away with something more brutal? You need to be prepared."
Ren straightened. "I know what I'm doing, Thorn. If I refuse her invitation, I lose whatever ground I gained yesterday. If I accept and show weakness, I lose it anyway. My best move is just to go and face her."
Thorn exhaled sharply. "Fine. But if you die, I'm not explaining it to your family."
Ren smirked. "Noted."
Ren put on his boots and they made their way to House Underwood's private training grounds, which they could both admit that it was impressive. Well, more impressive than the Ross family's rougher training grounds.
Tall stone walls enclosed the area, ensuring privacy. Weapons of different types lined the racks, and the ground was smooth, well-kept for sparring sessions.
Lilith was already there, waiting.
She stood in the middle of the yard, her dark hair tied back into a ponytail, sleeves rolled up to her elbows.
In her hands was a wooden sword, and another rested at her feet. She looked composed, but there was an... edge to her. It was in her stance, and her crimson eyes.
"You're late." She said as he approached.
Ren smirked. "You're early."
Lilith didn't return the smile. Instead, she bent down, picked up the second wooden sword, and tossed it at him. He caught it with ease.
"Let's see if you're all talk." She said, shifting into a ready stance. "Or if you can actually fight."
Ren's grip on the sword tightened slightly. "A sparring match?"
Lilith tilted her head. "Unless you're scared?"
Ren chuckled and took his stance. "Not in the slightest."
They circled each other, Lilith's movements sharp and eager, while Ren remained relaxed.
He could see from her movements that she did know how to wield a sword, so he said nothing.
Let's see what you can do, Lilith.
She attacked first, moving with the kind of reckless speed that spoke of experience but not discipline.
She attacked with a grunt, starting with a downward slash. Ren knocked it to the side with ease, his brows rising as she moved with the motion, bringing the sword back with a horizontal slash.
He dodged, before leaping back.
He could tell straight away that her strikes, while fierce, were driven by emotion.
Ren blocked and dodged with ease, letting her aggression dictate the rhythm of the fight.
She wasn't bad, not at all. Her footwork was quick, and she had natural instincts for battle. But she lacked refinement.
Her emotions fueled every swing, making her predictable. Ren let her push forward, waiting, studying her movements.
She pressed in, her wooden sword swinging in sharp, brutal arcs. Ren ducked beneath one strike and twisted away from another, countering with easy to dodge attacks.
His sword met hers, redirecting her force rather than meeting it head-on. Each time she struck harder, he made her own momentum work against her.
"Fight back properly!" Lilith snapped, frustration creeping into her voice as she swung again.
Ren smirked. "I am."
Her scowl deepened, and she lunged again. But Ren sidestepped, sweeping her legs out from under her in a controlled motion. She hit the ground hard, but she rolled back to her feet instantly, eyes burning with fury.
"You're playing with me." She growled, breath heavy. "You're toying with me like I'm some child."
Ren sighed. "I'm not toying with you, Lilith. I'm reading you. You fight like you're trying to prove something."
"I am proving something!" She snapped, stepping forward. "I'm proving that I don't need anyone to go easy on me! That I can win on my own!"
Her grip on the sword tightened, her frustration pouring into her next attack.
She struck harder, faster, her breaths sharp and uneven. Ren could feel the shift in the air around her, the pulse of energy beginning to crackle at her fingertips.
He exhaled, sensing her emotions rising to a dangerous level. He needed to end this before she lost herself to it.
The next time she lunged, he feinted, shifting at the last second. Lilith overextended, and before she could recover, Ren tapped his wooden sword against her side, signaling the end of the match.
Lilith froze. Then her entire body tensed, her breath coming fast and sharp. "Stop." She growled.
"What?" Ren frowned in confusion. "Stop doing what?"
"Stop that!" She snapped, glaring at him.
He blinked, not knowing what she was talking about.
"STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT!" She screamed.
Then, all at once, the air around her crackled as her Gift activated. A wave of blue energy erupted outward in every direction, raw and uncontrolled.
Ren barely had time to react before the force slammed into him.
And then, everything exploded into chaos.
