Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 130: I’m Too Good At My Job As An Underling, Okay?
Chapter 130: I’m Too Good At My Job As An Underling, Okay?
"Afterwards, I waited for you two to return from the third challenge on the platforms. But then, the disaster I had been fearful of actually struck!
"Qian Yun and the rest of those cultivators became puppets of that villain Zhao Weiqing. I had to buy some time to ensure that Zhanxian would reach the poor idiots waiting outside the portal. So I acted along with the situation, performing according to their expectations..."
Han Xuhan concluded his story with a weak smile, hiding the victorious glow from his face.
Giving Mu Ran and Xuanyuan Zhou a satisfactory answer was important. But even more important was to amend and advance the relationship he had with these two. Fortifying their trust in his character, his role, and his innocence was Han Xuhan’s true goal.
And this new explanation was targeting just that!
"When you say performed..." Mu Ran didn’t finish his sentence and stared at him with his eyes narrowed. Han Xuhan didn’t need to sweat over wondering about what he meant. So he immediately exclaimed in a voice dripping with heartache.
"Indeed, Boss, don’t tell me you thought I really used you as a meat shield when I was carrying you and you were unconscious?! Why would I have taken such a huge risk when I was perfectly safe within the circle of laws I made for myself? I gave up my protection just for a chance to snatch you away from Zhao Weiqing’s claws!"
Mu Ran’s eyes widened, shocked by Han Xuhan’s answer. The observation gave him the lead he needed. It was time to lay down the finishing touch.
"I, your underling, would never betray you like that! Check the upper right pocket of your robe if you doubt my sincerity!" Han Xuhan’s finger was pointed at Mu Ran’s chest as he made the declaration.
"Here?" Mu Ran touched his chest with a strange expression. In the firelight, nobody could read the faint redness creeping up on his neck as he started searching underneath the robe.
With a puzzled expression, he pulled out a small piece of wood moments later. Etched on this wood were familiar-looking letters. Mu Ran’s eyes widened as he deciphered their meaning.
It was a law fragment meant for conjoined teleportation. It seemed to be linked to the template Han Xuhan had sent out of the Holy Land through Zhanxian. As long as the template was activated outside the portal, it would affect the law fragment he was holding right now, too!
So his underling had really been speaking the truth! Mu Ran couldn’t help but feel guilty about ever suspecting Han Xuhan...
"What does it say, martial brother?" Xuanyuan Zhou asked curiously. Han Xuhan answered her while Mu Ran continued to examine the piece of wood. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
"It is one of the four compound law fragments I crafted while waiting, one for each of us, with the main one in Zhanxian’s hands. I put the third fragment inside your sleeves back when we were fighting in front of Zhao Weiqing. But I think you already knew that."
Xuanyuan Zhou nodded slowly, a look of realization dawning on her face.
"I knew that you were acting with some specific goal in mind. Seeing how eager you were to continue the childish fighting, I could only hope that my cooperation would be helpful in achieving that goal. As for the law fragment in my sleeves, it probably fell off while we were running away from the portal."
Han Xuhan snuck a few looks at Mu Ran’s face, whose countenance showed that his doubts had been finally cleared. His mood clearly seemed to have improved tremendously.
Saying this, Han Xuhan decided that it was the appropriate time to replace the current version of events in Mu Ran’s memory.
"Boss, I picked your body up and acted like I wanted to escape with you. But we both know that the chances of success in that plan were zero. Where would I even carry you to, inside that accursed place?
"I simply took that massive risk to put that piece of wood inside your pocket. Even though I knew I would be caught and beaten up, I did not waver!
"Why do you think I blabbered so much information to Zhao Weiqing? Why do you think I kept making useless, confusing, and contradictory points at that time?
"Zhao Weiqing wanted to buy time, and I wanted to buy time too. So I just kept playing the fiddle the way he wanted it to until the law fragment outside the land of laws was activated and took us away, simply bypassing the Seal of Myriad Laws.
"Back then, while we were being dragged off to the platforms to be sacrificed, I sensed the fluctuations in the law fragment in my pocket, which was connected to the template I had sent out. I realized that those guys outside the portal were trying to activate the teleportation law. From this side, I only needed to put some qi into the law fragments in our pockets.
"Mine, I could access easily. But I couldn’t access the ones in your robes. So I pretended that I was activating a law fragment all by myself, shouting out my move stupidly. Zhao Weiqing found it hilarious, remember?
"That idiot was bragging about how he had sealed off the operation of all law fragments within the territory of the Holy Land through the Seal of Myriad Laws. What he didn’t know was that my law fragments were controlled by something outside the Holy Land!
"He was so confident in his seal that he didn’t even stop me from openly putting my qi into the law fragments outside my body, into the ones in your pocket and your sleeve. With the Seal malfunctioning at that time, there was no way for it to nullify the second activation! Hahahaha!
"We were lucky in a way. If Zhao Weiqing’s main body hadn’t run into trouble because of our performance inside the third challenge site, the Suppression Seal of Myriad Laws wouldn’t have malfunctioned. In that situation, my law fragments might not have worked.
"If we ever meet that stupid Zhao in the future, I’ll be sure to explain it all in detail so that he can curse at himself for the rest of his life, hahaha! Who told him to act so cool and cocky? Hahaha!"
Finishing his soul-stimulating speech with rolls of laughter, Han Xuhan felt the pain in his stomach worsen. He asked Xuanyuan Zhou for another piece of meat, who handed it to him wordlessly.
Just as he was about to take his first bite, he noticed a familiar golden light shimmering in the corner of his vision. A panel from the system popped up seconds later.
