Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste-Chapter 917 - 145: Reconstructing the Temple
Perfikot's charcoal pencil rustled over the draft, gradually recreating the architectural structure of the Temple.
Every column's position, every wall's direction, even the fragmented relief patterns, were depicted by her with astonishing precision.
However, because the Temple has endured millennia of weathering, it has become a ruin, and the draft inevitably shows many blank spaces and broken lines, representing the collapsed or completely vanished parts of the structure.
Perfikot frowned slightly, staring at those missing parts.
To complete these missing sections, she needs to rely on her architectural knowledge and logical reasoning, but this is not easy.
Fortunately, scholars are conducting meticulous archaeological excavations at the Temple's site, and every stone's placement and each remaining carving they record may hold critical clues to fill in these gaps.
Thanks to their drawings, the complete structure of the Temple is gradually becoming clearer.
However, Safura Temple is ultimately a large-scale ancient building. Although its general structure is not as complex as some labyrinthine religious edifices, each detail to uncover the Temple's potential secrets—be it the load-bearing columns supporting the dome, the decorative arches in the corridor, or the long-blurred ritual patterns on the floor—must be carefully restored.
And achieving precise restoration, even with Perfikot's near eidetic memory and meticulous thinking, requires significant time and effort.
Nonetheless, she is not in a hurry.
She has plenty of time and energy at her disposal. Moreover, she can mobilize others to assist her.
With that in mind, she set down her charcoal pencil, rolled up the draft that was already halfway drawn, and called in the scholars responsible for excavating the Temple.
"This is the draft of the Temple's architecture. I need you to complete it," she said calmly but undoubtedly, handing the draft to the lead scholar.
The scholars carefully took the draft, gathered together, and discussed softly for a moment.
One elderly scholar hesitated a bit before cautiously saying, "Regent, to conduct precise mapping of the Temple's architecture, we might need some additional equipment... particularly lifting devices.
Many structures in the Temple have collapsed over time. If we can repair some crucial supporting points, we could more accurately restore their original shapes."
Perfikot thought for a moment and nodded, "A reasonable request. I'll have Floating City dispatch two autonomous robots to assist you, and arrange a team of Steam Knights to help transport and secure structures."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over everyone, "Anything else you need?"
The scholars looked at each other, finally shaking their heads in unison, "Not for now, Regent. We will complete your requirements as quickly as possible."
"Good." Perfikot nodded slightly, then added, "Remember, it's not 'as quickly as possible,' but 'with all your might.'"
Her tone was not harsh, but it instantly strained the scholars' nerves. They promptly bowed in response, "Yes, Regent!" and hurriedly departed with the draft, fearful of delaying the task entrusted by the Empire's Regent.
Perfikot watched their departing figures, lightly shook her head, then refocused her attention on the pile of materials on the table.
These documents, rubbings, and measurement data compiled by scholars might help her piece together the Temple's complete image faster and uncover its hidden secrets.
Perfikot flipped through the mountain of written materials, her fingers gently tracing the yellowed parchment and fragile papyrus scrolls.
Most of these materials compiled by scholars are based on studies of the mythological era. Though the content may not be entirely erroneous, many truths have long been blurred by the passage of time, and even distorted by conjecture from later scholars.
She couldn't help but furrow her brow slightly; in the mythological era, this now vast desert land could have been verdant and fertile due to divine blessings or a different natural environment.
The descriptions of "endless oases" and "fertile river valleys" in the documents sounded like fantasy to modern people, but Perfikot knows that the ancients wouldn't fabricate such records without reason.
The ancestors who established brilliant civilizations were clearly not foolish enough to ignore habitable lands and instead expand into barren deserts.
Yet with time's passing, in the long years before the advent of the end-time winter, the Desert Kingdom's prosperity has long vanished.
Dramatic environmental changes, shifts in climate, and numerous other natural factors caused this land to gradually dry up, and the once-thriving kingdom declined alongside it.
Eventually, only sparse nomadic tribes and independent chieftains remained, along with these ruins buried beneath the sands, silently witnessing the glory of the past.
Perfikot sighed softly, lamenting that because of this, scholarly research on the Desert Kingdom's history has been rather scarce.
After all, when even the kingdom that ruled this land no longer exists, how can one expect posterity to respect the history and study their once-glorious culture?
If not for the sudden interest in desert ancient civilizations by nations of the old world at some point, these relics might still be forgotten beneath the endless sands.
She recalled those antique artifacts collected eagerly by the nobility and those overly romanticized historical legends, shaking her head.
These superficial pursuits, rather than showing respect for history, resemble a form of consumption of ancient civilizations.
This is why much of the study on the Desert Kingdom is actually accommodating the fondness of the old world's nations, rather than truly adhering to uncovering historical truth.
And this undoubtedly adds some obstacles to Perfikot's work.
She must restore the documentation to its original state from those "embellished" materials, which is not easy.
Due to the demise of the ancient Desert Kingdom, the languages they once used have become extinct and turned into dead languages, resulting in early research on the Desert Kingdom largely relying on speculation, with much subjectivity and errors.
If it were not for archaeological discoveries and a French linguist deciphering the ancient Desert Kingdom's script, much would still lie dormant in history, unable to reveal their truth.
This requires Perfikot, when analyzing and researching these materials, to first verify whether they belong to early research data, adding much unnecessary work.
