Chapter 275: Tragic Defeat

The moment Elune and Lucas heard the referee’s signal, they both charged forward, the latter accompanied by a shrillish cry meant to intimidate his opponent.

Elune’s focus was momentarily shaken, but nothing too serious.

In fact, she even attacked first, her toned arms lashing forward in a vicious thrust. Her pappenheimer was met with a sneer and was, unfortunately, easily ducked by Lucas.

The hoodlum then countered with an upward slash that aimed to maim heavily, if not take her sword arm, his konda’s tip tearing through the air like a guillotine’s blade.

But Elune knew better than to thrust wildly.

Her opening attack was compact, allowing her to jump back on time, though it seemed she had to use a movement-type Sword Skill, her entire figure momentarily glowing like moonlight, to preserve her competition life.

Lucas beamed with confidence. He was not about to give his prey even the slightest of breathing room.

"Dance with me, hey, Moon Fairy!" he taunted, chopping down as he gave chase.

Elune’s eyes seemed focused enough. She leaned to the side, cleanly dodging the hoodlum’s attack, then pivoted her foot and stabbed at his shoulder.

"The hell is that?" Lucas mocked, smoothly transitioning into a spin to both avoid the prey’s resistance and strike back at her with a momentum and strength-powered sweeping slash. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Elune’s movement skill was still on cooldown, so she could only angle her pappenheimer to block.

Their swords screeched in steel.

In the next moment, she was sent skidding back a few significant meters, struggling to stabilize herself.

Lucas’ eyes glinted like an ancient predator’s.

He quickly pursued once more, capitalizing on the advantage he secured to push Elune into worse positions further.

From there, the exchanges escalated, and although the Moon Fairy was able to extricate herself from deadly situations with Licht Step, she mostly remained on the back foot, rarely able to counterattack.

Still, she’s surviving.

For now.

"V-Valthuzar is relentless! The dark horse’s depth seemed to have been exhausted. Is this the end of Moonpiercer’s dream run?!" Nathalie’s voice accompanied the action, adding flavor to the already intense exchanges.

True to her epithet, Elune moved like a fairy of the moon, ever elusive and gentle, though the latter part was forced upon her.

She didn’t want to be gentle. She just had no choice but to keep defending for now because of her foe.

Lucas was like an abominable redcap, relentlessly hunting down the Moon Fairy as though she were vermin he could not stand.

Then it just happened.

When everyone least expected it, the prey bit back. A swift stab to the shoulder that halted the hoodlum for a moment.

Elune was surprised she was able to get away with it so easily, jumping back without being pursued.

Lucas stood rooted on the spot, fury coursing through his being.

There was no way he got wounded by the b*tch!

Jaws clenched and gaze turning a few degrees colder, the A-ranker suddenly cut into the skin of his forearm, red cubic particles seeping into the blade.

A moment later, a menacing azure aura covered Valthuzar.

Elune’s breath grew a bit heavier, but at the same time, her focus tightened even more.

Not knowing the abilities of the enemy was quite unnerving.

Soon enough, Lucas burst into action, resuming his ruthless hunt. His sword flashed.

But the moon fairy dodged easily with a well-timed back step.

To everyone’s wonder, including Elune, a faint, azure slash mark hovered in place, as if a grim reminder of Valthuzar’s deadly strike.

Nothing else happened, though the split-second distraction allowed the hoodlum to stir the battle in his favor once more.

The two class representatives were even in speed, but Lucas seemed to have a considerable advantage in strength, plus his skill-backed confidence and ego were extremely lethal.

His swordsmanship was clearly a level higher, too.

Nonetheless, Elune fought her fiercest, keeping wary of the strange sword marks without letting their delayed threat limit her movements.

She was fighting to the best of her abilities, having finally vanquished her fear of Lucas.

Yet, she was still losing the exchanges — something she only experienced when she and Cody secretly sparred.

She was, through and through, inferior to Lucas Petrov.

At least right now.

Would things be different if she had been more serious in training during her high school days?

Also, was there still a chance to flip things around in the future? Her sword was of a lower rank, after all.

Frustrated.

Elune found herself frustrated, though her heart was a mirage, hidden behind her graceful fairy dance as she fought desperately to keep her tournament life.

"Ah!" she yelped, her forearm cut moderately and now leaking red cubic particles.

"Ooh, I like that. Give me more of that." Lucas licked his lips.

What the A-ranker didn’t expect, however, was the sudden burst of courage and speed from his prey.

It appeared she was offended by what he said.

A slap, faster than any attack the moon fairy had thrown so far, landed quite solidly on his left cheek, the crispness of it echoing throughout the entire arena.

The crowd’s eyes widened.

Even Elune could not believe her counterattack, staring dumbfoundedly at the small damage value that floated up before hurriedly jumping back in panic.

She actually used Licht Step just to slap the hell out of her opponent...but it felt good.

Really good!

At the same time, the feeling became a food for her thought — a breakthrough. Had that attack been a decisive strike with her sword instead...

She could’ve won right then and there.

Courage and decisiveness...she was still lacking compared to the top-tier bladeborns who seemed to have a true knack for combat.

Hateful as Lucas was, she had to admit that he was quite gifted in battle.

Meanwhile, the gifted one in question was trembling in fury — a weakness Elune failed to realize and exploit due to what she was currently lacking.

The young master moment could’ve been turned into an advantage, had she not been a bit too scared of the hoodlum’s retaliation.

Still, she was, to a degree, correct in being cautious, as the threat she had been wary of finally grew to their true lethality.

The strange, hovering slash marks. From feeble faintness, they became clearer, and their edges threatened danger.

One of the slash marks screeched, having just matured. It then flashed forward and shot at Elune.

She barely dodged it, caught slightly off guard.

Lucas immediately capitalized, charging at her to make things exponentially harder, and to make matters worse, more slash marks were maturing.

Elune gritted her teeth.

She and Cody had discussed things yesterday, and based on the trajectory of the fight...

’Fine, but I’ll at least try.’

Although she had used quite a number of simple, lower-tier Sword Skills apart from Licht Step to aid her in the fight against the hoodlum, there was one she hadn’t used yet.

Her most valuable asset. Moonpiercer’s innate Sword Skill.

Sadly, the moon was not up, so she couldn’t really fight to the absolute maximum of her abilities, but her weapon, at least, was fully charged in moonlight.

Even without a much-needed boost, her Moonpierce might be enough to grant her a shot at victory if used properly.

If not...

’Then the plan goes without saying.’

Clenching her jaws lightly, the flames of determination flickered in the depths of Elune’s eyes, and for the first time, she fought back quite aggressively.

"Huh? Now you fight, dumb b*tch?" Lucas taunted.

But she didn’t respond, her everything focused on that one shot at victory.

Elune was nimble, at the very least, so she was able to fight Lucas head-on for a few seconds, though even that was already stretching past her limits.

She suffered a lot of minor cuts from it, her body leaking red cubic particles quite heavily.

Still, Elune persevered.

She fought, and fought, and fought some more, until finally, she saw it. A chance.

Dodging the guillotine edge of Lucas’s blade within paralyzing millimeters, her pappenheimer lit up in a subtle silver light, yet the softness made the hoodlum’s hairs stand on end.

Lucas quickly realized that the darned prey was on a desperate last stand.

Why wouldn’t she be, when dozens of azure slash marks are about to rip her apart?

As long as he could survive this, he would make sure that the so-called moon fairy would be a moon ragdoll. He would take all of her limbs and humiliate her ruthlessly in front of Cody Han.

Yes...that’s what he’ll do.

But Lucas knew he had to survive first.

He watched Elune’s sword hand, the trajectory of her thrust, and then jumped back with all his might to avoid the lethal attack.

The hoodlum’s reaction speed was certainly fast enough, but his body wasn’t.

Under the crowd’s wild gazes, a bizarre scene unfolded.

The pappenheimer’s length extended through mystical moonlight, allowing her thrust to reach her opponent and strike him...right in the family jewels.

In the Myriad Sword Realm, this wasn’t too much of a lethal strike in a pure combat context, but it was embarrassing.

Very embarrassing.

Lucas thought he was already experiencing the worst.

The sharp but toned-down pain and the humiliation of being struck in that specific location...they burned his soul.

But no.

Sticking to their plan, Elune...bolted away, decisively fleeing from the azure slash marks and jumping down the stage, shrieking: "I give up!"

The match ended like so, and the Moon Fairy’s dream run ended with a crisp, dashing slap delivered right to her opponent’s face and her demolishing the future generations of the Petrov Family, even if only temporarily.

A very tragic defeat.
