Chapter 168 - Ch 168 : Azuma

The towering pillar of flames gradually dissipated as it lost its sustaining force, and the black smoke from the explosion slowly dispersed as well.

The one responsible for all of this, Azuma—one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory—stood with a calm yet expressionless face, looking indifferently at the fallen figures of Mest, Wendy, Carla, and Pantherlily lying on the ground nearby.

In a cold, emotionless tone, he murmured to himself:

"Is this guild only made up of children and cats?"

Mest trembled slightly as he lay on the ground, gritting his teeth while staring at Azuma, who stood not far away.

However, his mind was already in turmoil, waves of shock surging through him.

of cold sweat slowly trickled down his forehead.

(So this is one of the rumored Seven Kin of Purgatory? And there are six more like him? Fairy Tail... has absolutely no chance of winning.)

"So, the one they said arrived on the island first from the Seven Kin of Purgatory—was it you? Earlier, I thought they were referring to that unknown guy called Mest."

Just as the situation was falling into a tense standoff, a voice suddenly rang out from above, catching everyone off guard.

Looking in the direction of the sound, they saw a handsome young man with white wings of light hovering in midair, gazing down at them.

After realizing that the pillar of flames hadn't been caused by any of his guild members, Noel had rushed toward its source at full speed, but he was still a step too late.

Contrary to his initial assumptions, the unidentified figure named Mest was not one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory but seemed to be helping Wendy and the others resist them.

Even so, Wendy had already sustained serious injuries.

Noel slowly descended to the ground, gently picking up the unconscious Wendy.

His clear blue eyes burned with undisguised fury.

"Was this your doing?"

The icy tone carried an unmistakable killing intent.

In an instant, the surrounding space seemed to freeze over, and an overwhelming bloodlust, like an invisible raging storm, erupted from Noel as its center, engulfing everything around him.

The suffocating scent of blood lingered thickly in the air, an aura that only a true harbinger of death could exude.

It felt as if the entire world had plunged into a bottomless abyss, swallowed by nothingness, where even the flow of time seemed to grind to a halt.

A faint breeze swept past, lifting the strands of hair in front of Noel's eyes, revealing a pair of heterochromatic pupils—one blue, one purple.

Within the slowly rotating six-pointed star in his irises burned an uncontrollable fury and an unrestrained thirst for blood.

Azuma, one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory, felt his pupils contract sharply.

His usually composed expression instantly turned pale.

It was as if some ancient, primordial beast had locked onto him, filling him with a bone-chilling cold that rooted him to the spot.

He couldn't move.

Not even a single finger.

The suffocating, freezing bloodlust surged like a stormy ocean, threatening to crush his very soul into dust.

The sheer pressure—so immense, so inescapable—was like the weight of an unmovable mountain, suffocating him to the point where even breathing became a luxury.

Azuma felt his consciousness on the verge of shattering under the unbearable force.

He would die.

There was no doubt about it.

Escape was impossible.

Victory was unattainable.

A fear unlike anything he had ever known coiled around his heart, strangling him.

Even when he had peered into the abyss of magic itself, he had never experienced such a suffocating dread.

He wanted to turn and flee, but his legs felt as if they had been filled with lead, too heavy to move.

He wanted to speak—to shatter this paralyzing terror—but his throat felt like it was being squeezed by an unseen force, rendering him completely voiceless.

"Noel."

At that moment, Wendy, cradled in Noel's arms, slowly opened her eyes.

She gazed at the face before her and murmured his name softly.

The overwhelming killing intent dissipated the moment Wendy awoke, vanishing so swiftly that it was as if it had never existed.

Everything from just a moment ago felt like an illusion.

Noel's eyes gradually softened as he looked down at Wendy, his voice gentle. "Wendy, are you okay? How do you feel?"

(So the aftereffects of the soul fusion have started showing... If Wendy hadn't woken up in time, I might have killed that member of the Seven Kin of Purgatory on the spot. That was dangerous.) Noel thought to himself, feeling a lingering sense of relief.

"I'm fine... It's just that my magic power is almost completely drained," Wendy forced a small smile despite the pain in her body.

"Hey, what the hell is going on here?"

"Aye!"

Just then, two familiar voices rang out.

Noel and Wendy lifted their heads to see Natsu and Happy running toward them, their faces filled with worry and urgency.

"Noel! Wendy! What happened here?" Natsu demanded as he rushed over, his gaze falling on Wendy's battered form.

His pupils contracted slightly, and then, as if sensing something, he turned to see Azuma standing in the distance.

His expression gradually twisted into fury. "You bastard! Was it you?!"

Before Azuma could answer, a sudden explosion echoed from afar.

Noel instinctively turned toward the source of the noise.

In the distance, the titan-like figure of Makarov was engaged in a standoff with a massive airship.

At the same time, multiple glowing orange spheres, formed from magic, descended from the ship.

As each one burst open, a figure clad in black, bearing the emblem of Grimoire Heart, landed upon Tenrou Island.

"So... Grimoire Heart has finally arrived?" Noel murmured as he slowly rose to his feet.

"Natsu, Happy," he called out.

"Hmm?"

"Our guild is currently facing an unprecedented crisis. One of the four pillars of the Balam Alliance, the dark guild—Grimoire Heart—has launched an attack on Tenrou Island. The situation is urgent."

"What? What's going on??" Happy asked in shock.

"Grimoire Heart? Why would they do that?" Natsu was equally confused.

"I don't know the details either, and now isn't the time to explain. Right now, I have two tasks for you both. First, take Wendy, Carla, PantherLily, and this unknown guy to a safe place. Second..." A cold gleam flashed in Noel's eyes.

"Anyone from Grimoire Heart that you come across—knock them out of here. Can you do that, Natsu?"

Natsu paused for a moment, then grinned confidently and raised his fist. "Oh!! No problem, leave it to me!"

"Good. I believe in you, Natsu." Noel's lips curled into a faint smile before he turned his gaze back to Azuma in the distance, his expression growing colder.

"I don't care if you're one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory or whatever... I just want to tell you one thing!"

"What?" Azuma instinctively responded.

Noel lifted his face, his left eye's blue pupil radiating a terrifying killing intent.

"Let me tell you—I have my own taboos. If you harm anyone from Fairy Tail, then no matter what it takes, I will crush you."

In an instant, a violent surge of light magic exploded beneath Noel's feet.

Using the immense recoil force, his figure suddenly vanished from Azuma's sight.

(Not good!)

The moment Noel disappeared, Azuma felt an overwhelming killing intent envelop his entire body.

Before he could react, an immense force struck his chest.

In the next moment, he was completely overpowered as Noel appeared before him, pressing hard against his chest.

Azuma was forcibly pushed back, crashing into the dense forest.

The impact sent trees toppling and the ground shattering with a deafening noise.

"Wendy, let's go."

Natsu, his expression serious, watched the place where Noel and Azuma had vanished before speaking in a firm tone.

"But... Noel—"

"Don't worry. Noel is strong—there's no way he'll lose. There's no need to overthink it. What we need to do is focus on knocking out the other enemies on this island. Noel will definitely catch up with us later."

Natsu flashed a confident grin.

Wendy was momentarily stunned, then smiled with a hint of pride. "Yeah, Noel won't lose."

"Let's go."

At this moment, the battle between demons and fairies had officially begun.

.............

Somewhere on the Continent.

A blond-haired boy stood silently, gazing at the azure sky, his brows furrowed as if deep in thought.

"Is something wrong, Laxus?"

An aged voice came from behind him.

"No, it's nothing." Without turning around, the blond-haired boy responded softly.

"I just have a strange feeling of unease... It's bothering me a little. Elder Ankero, I appreciate your care during this time, but now, it's time for me to leave."

"You're leaving, huh?"

A white-haired, bearded old man slowly walked up beside Laxus, his tone calm.

"Very well. Since you've made up your mind, go on ahead. Once Ed training is finished, I'll let him know."

"Hmm, let that brat set out on his own. I won't wait for him. Anyway, the person he's closer to is Noel."

Laxus nodded, and in a flash of golden light, his figure had already disappeared.
