Chapter 179 - Ch 179 : The Withering of the Fairies 1

In a dense forest on Tenrou Island, Gajeel and Levy were making their way toward the gathering camp.

"What exactly is going on? The S-Class exam was suddenly canceled, and then members of the Balam Alliance's branch, Grimoire Heart, appeared," Levy said with a worried frown.

On their way to the gathering camp, she and Gajeel had already been ambushed multiple times by Grimoire Heart members.

If not for the delays caused by fighting their way through, they would have reached the camp much sooner.

"So those guys are Grimoire Heart? They don't seem all that impressive," Gajeel said dismissively, clearly unfazed compared to Levy's concern.

"Don't be careless, Gajeel. Grimoire Heart is one of the four major guilds of the Balam Alliance. The ones we fought so far were just their ordinary members. The stronger ones haven't even made a move yet," Levy reminded him.

"Yeah, yeah. By the way, are we really just gonna ignore those guys chasing us from behind?" Gajeel cast an impatient glance at the Grimoire Heart members still trying to catch up with them.

"Forget them. It's more important to regroup with everyone first."

"Fine, fine, I'll listen to you this time, shorty."

Boom!

Just as Gajeel and Levy finished speaking, a massive explosion erupted behind them, accompanied by a chorus of agonized screams.

Both of them stopped in their tracks and turned back, only to witness a shocking scene.

The once lush green forest behind them had, in a matter of moments, turned an icy shade of blue.

Everything in sight had been frozen solid by the chilling frost, and the Grimoire Heart members who had been pursuing them were now encased in ice, unable to move an inch.

"Damn that Stella, she's way too stingy! Making me suffer like this... Damn it, just die already, you bastards! If you want to blame someone, blame yourselves for running into me when I'm in a bad mood!"

A voice, thick with resentment, reached Gajeel and Levy's ears.

Immediately after, the frozen blocks of ice shattered with a thunderous crash.

Everything that had been trapped in the ice was crushed into powder, and amidst the swirling shards of ice, a figure slowly emerged.

It was a young man with green hair and green eyes.

His delicate features were tinged with an unhealthy paleness, as if he had just recovered from an illness.

A strong aura of resentment radiated from him, his slightly upturned eyebrows giving him an air of arrogance and defiance.

It was only at that moment that the green-haired youth seemed to notice Gajeel and Levy.

He frowned slightly and tilted his head.

"Which side are you on? Grimoire Heart? Or Fairy Tail?"

Gajeel took a step forward, subtly shielding Levy behind him as he spoke in a cold voice, "Who are you?"

Dylan furrowed his brows in slight irritation.

"I asked you first, didn't I? ...Never mind. It doesn't matter whether you're from Fairy Tail or Grimoire Heart. I'll just take care of all of you."

"Tch, pretty arrogant, aren't you? Let's see if your strength is even half as impressive as that mouth of yours."

Provoked by Dylan's condescending words, Gajeel's anger flared.

He coldly fired back before leaning his body backward, gathering an immense surge of magic power.

"[Iron Dragon's Roar!]"

A silver whirlwind, mixed with shards of iron, surged forward, tearing through everything in its path as it roared toward Dylan.

Watching the attack approach, Dylan narrowed his eyes slightly, the corner of his lips curling into a faint, almost imperceptible smile.

He murmured softly, "So that's who you are... the child of Metalicana, huh?"

A chilling frost coiled around his hands.

Despite the overwhelming force of the Iron Dragon's Roar barreling toward him, Dylan remained composed.

He simply raised his hand, infused it with magic, and punched forward—shattering Gajeel's attack effortlessly, dispersing it into the air.

"What?!" Gajeel and Levy both gasped in disbelief at the sight before them.

Dylan's expression remained indifferent, as if he had done nothing more than swat away a minor inconvenience.

He casually shook his hand before speaking in a calm tone.

"An Iron Dragon... the child of Metalicana. If I recall correctly, your name was... Gajila? No... Gajiru? Whatever, it doesn't matter. Either way, I must say, I'm quite lucky to have run into you."

"Who the hell are you?"

"Dylan. That's my name," Dylan replied slowly.

"Now, show me what you've really got. Your strength shouldn't be limited to just that, right? Iron Dragon Slayer?"

"Of course not." Gajeel's face grew serious as his skin transformed into solid metal.

Raising his fist, he charged straight at Dylan.

"[Iron Dragon's Steel Fist!]"

Gajeel's fist, gleaming with metallic luster, hurtled toward Dylan, the whistling wind it carried testifying to its immense power.

Focusing all his attention, Gajeel kept his eyes locked on Dylan's movements, fully expecting him to react in some way.

However... to his surprise, Dylan showed no intention of dodging or defending himself.

In Gajeel's slightly astonished gaze, his Iron Dragon's Steel Fist landed squarely on Dylan's face without any resistance.

Boom!

The impact caused Dylan's body to sway slightly, his feet shifting back just a step from the force.

Yet, his expression remained completely unchanged—as if he had just been struck by something utterly insignificant.

"This... is your full-strength attack?? Don't joke with me, you bastard..."

Dylan, who had just been struck by Gajeel, lowered his head slightly.

Beneath his long bangs, his eyes gleamed with dissatisfaction and fury.

"Is this all? Too weak. Why is your power so pathetic? As a Dragon Slayer, is this truly the extent of your strength? You're an embarrassment to the name of Dragon Slayer Magic—don't make me laugh!!!"

With that, Dylan grabbed Gajeel's hand and, moving at an incomprehensible speed, drove his knee into Gajeel's stomach.

A surge of draconic power erupted from his leg at that moment.

Gajeel's body bent into an arc under the impact, his hardened face twisting in pain.

Dylan showed no mercy—before Gajeel could even react, a magic-infused fist struck his cheek.

Boom!

With a single punch, Dylan sent Gajeel flying backward.

His body crashed through multiple trees before finally coming to a stop.

"Khah..." Gajeel coughed up blood, clutching his stomach.

"Gajeel!! Solid Script: Snow!"

Levy quickly wrote the word "Snow" in midair, summoning a fierce blizzard that engulfed Dylan.

Having cast her magic, she rushed over to Gajeel's side.

"Are you alright, Gajeel?"

"Yeah... but be careful. This guy... he's a monster." Gajeel nodded slowly, struggling to his feet.

Then, in front of both Gajeel and Levy, something shocking occurred.

The snowstorm Levy had conjured seemed to be pulled by some unseen force, turning into a flowing current—and was completely absorbed into Dylan's mouth.

Gajeel and Levy's faces were filled with shock. "You... could it be...?"

Dylan slowly walked toward them, his once youthful and delicate face now void of any emotion.

His originally green eyes had turned into dark golden, beast-like pupils.

"Partial Dragonization: Ice Dragon's Rending Fist."

In an instant, Dylan's entire right arm was covered in ice-blue dragon scales, and his hand transformed into razor-sharp dragon claws.

Tremendous magical power gathered around his fist as a cold smile played across his lips.

Then, like a sudden flash, his body vanished, reappearing right in front of Gajeel and Levy in the blink of an eye.

"Die!"

BOOM!

A deafening explosion erupted.

From Dylan's position, a devastating icy blast spread nearly a hundred meters outward, turning everything within its range into a frozen wasteland.

"You dodged with flight magic, huh?" Dylan muttered coldly.

As the dragon scales on his arm slowly receded, returning to normal, he turned his gaze upward.

Floating in the air, Levy hovered with butterfly-like wings on her back, holding onto Gajeel to keep him aloft.

"Dragon Slayer Secret Art: Karma Demon—Iron Spiral!"

From midair, Gajeel roared in fury.

His legs transformed into solid steel as he began to spin rapidly, breaking free from Levy's grasp and plummeting downward at high speed—barreling straight toward Dylan like a deadly iron drill.

The fierce wind pressure from his descent was enough to sting the skin.

"Even after using a Dragon Slayer Secret Art, this is all you've got?"

Watching the descending Iron Spiral, Dylan let out a sigh—whether it was mocking or disappointed was unclear.

He took a deep breath, his body leaning back slightly.

"Ice Dragon's Roar!!!"

Sizzle—

A torrent of ice-blue energy erupted from Dylan's mouth, surging toward the sky to meet the spiraling steel attack.

At the point of impact, a harsh, ear-piercing screech of metal grinding against ice echoed through the air.

For a brief moment, the two forces clashed in a deadlock.

But in the end, the overwhelming power of the ice-blue torrent shattered the iron spiral, completely swallowing it.

The freezing blast didn't stop there—it surged forward, engulfing even Levy, who was caught in the aftermath.

As the intense frost slowly faded, Gajeel and Levy lay on the ground, their bodies covered in bruises and severe frostbite.

Dylan's expression remained completely unchanged as he stepped toward their fallen forms.

"It's over."

A blue ice blade formed in Dylan's hand as he approached Levy, who was the closest.

She struggled to rise, but her injuries made it impossible to move.

In her despair-filled gaze, the ice blade swung downward—without hesitation.

The sudden sound of ice piercing flesh echoed through the air.

Dylan's pupils widened slightly in surprise as he stared at the unexpected scene before him.

At the very moment the ice blade was about to pierce Levy, Gajeel suddenly lunged forward, shielding her with his own body.

The blade that had been aimed directly at Levy's heart instead pierced through Gajeel's body, stabbing into Levy's abdomen.

Levy stared blankly at Gajeel, who had thrown himself over her to protect her.

She ignored her own wound, tears streaming down her face as she muttered,

"...Why, Gajeel?"

Gajeel coughed up blood, yet the familiar arrogant smirk returned to his face.

Struggling to speak, he forced out his words between gasps,

"Tch... Didn't I... already promise you...? I would... protect you... Shrimp..."

"Gajeel..." Levy's tear-streaked face slowly curved into a soft smile.

"You... really are an idiot."

Dylan's expression wavered—somewhere between disdain, indifference, and a faint, almost imperceptible hint of jealousy.

After a brief hesitation, Dylan finally let out a cold snort, his face returning to an impassive state as he turned away.

"How boring. Now I've lost my interest in killing." His voice was detached as he walked away without looking back.

"I'll let you off the hook this time. But, Iron Dragon—whether you'll even survive with those wounds is another question. Try to live... get stronger... and then come challenge me again."

As Dylan's figure disappeared into the distance, Gajeel's vision began to blur.

And then—his world faded into darkness.
