Chapter 189 - Ch 189 : The Death of Hades

The pupil of his right eye turned blood-red like that of a demon, and his grayish-white hair stood on end.

An overwhelmingly sinister purple magic swirled around him.

With a proud smirk on his lips, Hades coldly gazed at Garlos, who stood not far away.

"Do you see it? This is the abyss of magic..." Hades raised an arm, where the deep purple energy pulsed as if it possessed a life of its own.

"To step into the path of magic is to plunge into unfathomable darkness. And ahead, the only thing that can be found is the one and only magic that shines within the abyss. Just a little more... Just a little more, and I will reach that ultimate magic."

"The ultimate magic, huh?" Hearing Hades' words, Garlos chuckled indifferently.

"What an extraordinary ambition. Hades, such immense magical power... Even I have rarely seen anything like it."

"It's too late to beg for mercy now. If you intend to stand in my way, even if you are a member of the Demon God's Soul, I will show no mercy." Hades naturally took Garlos' words as a declaration of surrender.

In his demonic state, his confidence in his own power was absolute.

Slowly, he moved his hands, and the sinister, purple-black energy boiled and surged with his motions.

"Open your eyes and witness this... From the Book of Zeref, Chapter Four, Verse Twelve—Forbidden Magic, [Heaven's Wrath]!!"

In an instant, the air seemed to freeze.

A darkness so vile it was nauseating corroded every inch of space.

The surroundings transformed into a world of pure blackness.

Then, within this darkness, something unnatural appeared—an anomaly that should not exist.

From the barren ground, countless shadowy purple figures slowly emerged.

These were demons born from the ruins, their ethereal, violet bodies covered in glowing red magical markings.

The moment they appeared, they let out furious roars, their howls echoing through the void.

"Creating life from ruin? No... these are merely incomplete beings, phantoms caught between life and death," Garlos murmured as he observed the howling demons.

"As long as one possesses the power of the abyss, demons can be born even from mere earth. A dancer of demons, a judge sent by the heavens—this is the true magic of the abyss," Hades said coldly as his gaze locked onto Garlos.

"Now, receive the judgment of the heavens, Throne of the Demon God's Soul."

"Judgment? The judgment of the heavens...?" Garlos repeated in a soft whisper.

He lowered his head and looked at his hands, his brown bangs falling over his face, concealing both his expression and the deep mockery in his eyes.

Even with Hades' keen vision, all he could see was Garlos' lips curving into an ever-widening smile.

"How interesting. Let me witness it for myself—the so-called abyss of magic. The so-called judgment of the heavens."

"Then sink into the boundless abyss," Hades declared as he waved both hands.

The demons surrounding him roared and unleashed countless waves of purple magic from their mouths, an overwhelming barrage aimed straight at Garlos.

The overwhelming waves of magical energy surged toward Garlos like an unrelenting storm.

In an instant, the torrent of magic swallowed him whole.

Then, a tremendous explosion erupted at the spot where Garlos had stood.

The sheer force of the magical detonation sent shockwaves rippling through the room, even causing faint cracks to appear in the protective barrier that Garlos had previously set up.

Thick smoke engulfed the entire chamber, obscuring all vision.

"Is it over?" Hades asked coldly as the echoes of the explosion faded.

"Over? Isn't it a bit too soon for that?" A calm, indifferent voice emerged from within the smoke.

Suddenly, at the center of the lingering haze, a massive vortex formed—a swirling distortion of space itself.

From the very core of this anomaly, Garlos' figure slowly reappeared.

A single wound had opened up on his right arm, with crimson blood steadily seeping from it.

Yet, despite this injury, his expression remained completely unchanged, as if the wound did not even exist.

"Impossible...! He took a direct hit from Abyssal Magic, and yet... he only suffered such a minor injury?!" Hades' eyes widened in shock, as if he could not believe the sight before him.

Garlos raised his arm and gazed at the wound on his hand.

Extending his tongue, he lightly licked the blood, a faint smile slowly forming on his lips.

"So this is the power of Zeref's magic? It certainly doesn't disappoint—truly formidable. To think it could penetrate my spatial barrier and even wound me... This level of strength is already slightly beyond Dylan's maximum attack output." His smile deepened.

"Hades, you have indeed lived up to my expectations."

"Damn it," Hades' expression darkened slightly.

Then, as if enraged by Garlos' words, he furiously swung both hands.

"Don't think this is over yet! Demons, kill him!"

Upon receiving the command, the spectral demons let out deafening roars and charged straight toward Garlos.

Garlos calmly watched as the demons charged toward him, his surging magic gathering like a boundless ocean, terrifying in its intensity.

Raising both hands, he spoke softly,

"It seems this is all you're capable of. What a pity. In the end, you're not Zeref. You cannot wield his magic with true mastery. Now then, Hades, it's my turn—[Spatial Spiral]."

A faint hissing sound echoed—like the delicate shattering of glass. Subtle, yet impossible to ignore.

From the center where Garlos stood, transparent cracks rapidly spread across space itself.

In the blink of an eye, the fissures had already covered the area around him.

The demons charging toward him barely managed to take a single step closer before something uncontrollable happened—distortion.

Fractures appeared across their spectral bodies, shifting their very forms.

In mere moments, without the slightest resistance, their figures were displaced.

Then, as if the violent spatial force surrounding them had been awaiting this moment, it effortlessly disassembled their fragmented bodies into dust.

"What!!"

Hades' eyes widened in shock.

Garlos, his smile becoming even more refined, spoke in an eerily soft tone,

"Hades, do you understand? From the very beginning, you never had a chance to win. Because between you and me—there is a fundamental difference."

"What do you mean?" Hades asked, his face darkening.

"What you seek is merely the origin of magic itself. But we are entirely different," Garlos spoke in a calm, measured tone.

"Our ideal is to destroy this sorrowful and irrational world and create an entirely new one. To achieve that, the Demon God's Soul must first obtain the world's most fundamental and primordial existence—something far beyond mere magical power. It is the ability to establish the laws and order of the world itself. To us, Zeref's power is nothing more than a means to an end."

"You're... a bunch of madmen!" Hades stared in shock at Garlos, whose expression was now slightly twisted with excitement.

After a long pause, he finally managed to utter these words.

"Madmen?" Garlos fell silent for a few seconds before replying softly,

"Perhaps to you, it seems incomprehensible. But in the end, that's because you are merely an ordinary human. Forget it—there's no point explaining further. Let's bring this to an end, Hades."

As soon as he finished speaking, Garlos' figure vanished in an instant.

"There!" The moment Garlos disappeared, Hades reacted immediately.

Sensing the flow of magic, he turned swiftly, raising his hand to attack.

However, before he could even unleash his magic, a hand suddenly appeared—grasping his wrist in an unyielding grip, stopping his attack completely.

"I originally thought you would be a bit smarter, Hades. From our previous exchanges, you should have realized the absolute difference in strength between us.

Not to mention, after using Zeref's magic, your magic power is nearly depleted. Do you still think you can fight against me in this state?"

The voice ringing in his ears made Hades feel as if he had fallen into an abyss of ice.

The next moment, Garlos' other hand had already appeared at his throat.

"[Space Rift]."

.............

At the seaside of Tenrou Island, Garlos' figure slowly emerged.

He turned his head to glance at the Grimoire Heart's airship and softly said, "It's over. [Fault Distortion]."

Without a sound, the Grimoire Heart airship began to spiral and twist clockwise.

The next moment, a piercing spatial roar suddenly erupted.

The entire airship shattered with a deafening explosion, swallowed into the chaotic turbulence of space.

It fragmented piece by piece, and the members aboard were torn to dust before they could even let out a scream.

Even the remains of the debris were swept away by the spatial vortex, leaving no trace behind.

Garlos smiled faintly.

"The test on the Abyss of Magic is complete. Although Hades was not Zeref and did not possess the full depths of the Abyss, he still revealed enough clues."

"Next, it's time to reunite with Master. I wonder how the others are doing with their cleansing mission. With their abilities, as long as they haven't encountered His Majesty Nord, they should have nearly completed it by now."
