Chapter 310: Ch 310 : Intercept

In the dark corridor, only the sound of footsteps echoed.

Yukino and Lucy were walking through a gloomy passage inside the Dark Demon Castle.

The corridor had no windows at all—only faint magical torches spaced far apart provided dim light.

"What is this place, anyway? We’ve been walking for so long, and still haven’t seen anyone," Lucy said uneasily, frowning at the darkness ahead.

Seeing Lucy growing anxious, Yukino gently reassured her, "It’s alright. These corridors are really complicated—we probably just missed them. With their strength, there’s no way anything bad would happen to them."

"I know everyone is really strong, but..." A trace of worry flashed across Lucy’s face.

After a brief pause, she continued, "Yukino, you’ve never seen the power of the Demon God’s Soul firsthand, have you?"

"Mm. I’ve only heard that they’re the most powerful dark guild on the continent—such a headache even for the Magic Council. But I don’t know the details," Yukino replied with a nod.

Lucy pressed her lips together slightly and said in a low voice, "But I... or rather, all of us who returned from Tenrou Island, have experienced their power personally."

"..." Yukino turned her head to look at Lucy.

At that moment, Lucy’s face was filled with remembrance, dread, and regret.

Her footsteps unconsciously began to slow. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

"That time... we were defeated by them—no, crushed is more accurate. Even Noel was almost helplessly overwhelmed," Lucy said in a heavy tone.

"Is the Demon God’s Soul really that powerful?" Yukino said in astonishment.

She had witnessed Noel and the others’ strength firsthand—even Saber Tooth had been easily defeated by the members of Fairy Tail.

Yet Lucy was saying that even someone as powerful as Noel was no match for the Demon God’s Soul.

It was hard for Yukino to believe.

"That’s only natural—because we are the Demon God’s Soul."

The sudden voice startled both Lucy and Yukino.

They quickly looked up, eyes fixed on the dark corridor ahead.

"Who’s there?" Lucy and Yukino each drew a Celestial Spirit Key from their waists, staring cautiously toward the source of the voice.

Soft footsteps echoed as a slender figure soon came into view before Lucy and Yukino.

"You’re... the Sixth Throne of the Demon God’s Soul—Ophelia?"

Lucy blinked in surprise, then quickly recognized the figure by her appearance.

"A first meeting, I presume—Fairy Tail’s Celestial Spirit Mage, Lucy Heartfilia, and former Saber Tooth member, Yukino Agria."

Lucy’s expression turned grim, a drop of cold sweat trailing down her temple.

"Are you here to take us on?"

"Yes," Ophelia said calmly and softly.

"I’ve been ordered to intercept the two of you and prevent you from moving forward."

"Ordered to intercept us... That means, our other companions must’ve run into other Thrones as well, right?" Lucy quickly caught the implication in Ophelia’s words and pressed for an answer.

"That’s correct. The Second Throne, Tsukiyo, is tasked with delaying Lord Nord’s advance. The Third Throne, Garlos, is intercepting Ishu and Ed. The Fourth Throne, Stella, is responsible for stopping Mirajane."

Lucy clenched her hands tightly, anxiety welling up inside her for her companions.

"If you’re worried about the others, I suggest you save yourself the trouble," Ophelia said coolly, a blue glow beginning to shimmer around the fingers of her right hand.

"Because once you start fighting me, you won’t have the attention to spare for anything else."

The next moment, a section of the floor just in front of Lucy suddenly exploded, startling both her and Yukino.

"Though it’s not my intention, I have no choice but to go all out in this battle."

Ophelia’s pale blue eyes gazed calmly at Yukino and Lucy.

In a voice barely above a whisper, she murmured,

"Show me how strong your resolve truly is... Fairy Tail."

Central plaza of the Dark Demon Castle.

A thick, oppressive aura of darkness engulfed the entire area.

The darkness was so tangible and potent that just a single glance would be enough to drain an ordinary mage of all will to fight.

And yet, such a terrifying force now gathered like a docile pet, quietly surrounding Lia and the massive gate of the Dark Temple at the center.

As dark currents surged upward, the energy of the temple itself began to wane, while the power emanating from the giant gate continued to rise—albeit slowly.

A small, subtle crack had quietly appeared on the black-and-white double doors.

An unimaginably ancient and distant aura seeped out from that narrow gap.

It was a feeling beyond words—one that stirred an inexplicable fear deep in the soul, as if what lay beyond that gate didn’t belong to this world at all, but rather led to a higher dimension—an impossible, unreachable realm of the unknown.

Kneeling on the ground, Lia seemed completely unaware of the strange phenomenon.

She continued her silent prayers, head bowed—but the faint upward curve at the corner of her lips betrayed her.

It showed that everything unfolding was entirely within her grasp.

Lance, the First Throne of the Demon God’s Soul, slowly stepped back, retreating from the plaza to avoid allowing his own magic to mingle with the power of darkness and disrupt the ritual.

Though the chance of such interference was negligible, Lance remained absolutely vigilant, not relaxing in the slightest.

"Hm?"

With his arms crossed and his expression calm, Lance suddenly furrowed his brows and slowly closed his eyes.

A few seconds later, he reopened them, and a layer of icy frost seemed to settle over his handsome features.

In a low voice, he muttered, "Dylan and Reign’s Thrones have dimmed... their magical links to the Thrones have been severed. That must mean... those two have already failed?"

He looked toward Lia in the distance, hesitated for a brief moment, then turned and walked away.

"Though I don’t believe that rabble outside has the strength to defeat Tsukiyo and the others and break through the blockade to get here, even so, I will not allow any uncertain factors to interfere with Master’s plan. I shall be the one to guard the final passage."

Lance walked into the depths of the dark corridor.

Every step he took left deep cracks in the floor behind him.

If one were to peer into those cracks, they would be shocked to see that the bedrock beneath had been reduced to powder—completely shattered by Lance’s sheer power.

The First Throne of the Demon God’s Soul, a being at the pinnacle of human strength, had finally entered the fray.
