Fake dating my enemy, The playboy billionaire-Chapter 142: Wait for my call
"That’s a gorgeous dress." Valentina joins me on the balcony.
I blink, taken aback by her words.
"What? It’s a gorgeous dress. An archived dress from Dior."
I don’t have the patience for small talk. "What are you doing here?" she should be in NewYork with her husband.
"Job."
I raise an eyebrow. "You’re working for Yifan?" what about her business?
"Yes, in the finance department. He recruited me because of my high merits. He’s paying me double."
Something’s off. Her usual arrogance is gone, replaced with a strange emptiness in her tone. And then, I notice the absence of a wedding ring on her finger.
"That’s surprising, considering you got married just a few months back," I say, voice casual, but the question lingers.
Valentina narrows her eyes, her lips curling into something close to a sneer. "You really don’t know, or are you just pretending?"
"I don’t know what?"
She laughs then, a wild, manic sound that echoes into the night. She bends forward, clutching the railing as though she’s holding herself up, her laughter echoing in the stillness of the night. I can’t tell if it’s her, the cold air, or the creeping sensation that someone is watching me.
"Oh, Yiren. I know you’re a bitch, but can you stop pretending to be a fool?" she says, wiping a tear from her eye, as if this whole situation is some twisted joke. "After what your man did to me, to my business, to my family... do you think my fiancé will still marry me?"
"My Man?"
Jun isn’t my man. He is—well, I—I don’t know what he is. But he is not mine. Right?
She scoffs, clearly not buying it. "Feng Junjie. Aka Jun, the billionaire heir, the youngest of the brothers. Whose family heirloom, the famous diamond is hanging around your neck."
Her words hit me like a lightning bolt. I instinctively reach up to clutch the heart-shaped center piece around my neck.
This isn’t the famous Feng diamond. The one I googled after my kidnapping. The article said it was damaged a few years ago, and Feng Jianyu had it cut into pieces and split among his brothers.
But then—wait. Meimei is wearing a stack of three rings with similar pink diamonds, and Suyin has a pink diamond bracelet around her wrist.
Rightfully yours. That’s what Jun said when he made me wear it. He gave me his family’s heirloom, something that rightfully belongs only to the women of his family.
The diamond feels cold against my fingers, but my heart warms at the thought of him. I’m still struggling with coming up with a reason to run away from him, and here he gave me a piece of his family heirloom like he is already sure of everything.
Valentina’s scoff pulls me out of my thoughts, "I know my behavior toward you wasn’t right, but can you blame me? After what you did to me? How humiliated I was that night? How I was played by every man who took turns on me."
"I’m sorry what happened with you. I just swapped your drink with the one you prepared for Jun and left with him. If I hadn’t... who knows what might’ve happened to him that night? It was only the next day I got to know about you." If I had known the drug was this potent, I’d have thrown that drink instead of swapping it with hers.
She steps closer, the smell of alcohol heavy on her breath. "Then why did you send him after me after all these years? My family is bankrupt. My business sank overnight. My fiancé left me, afraid I might implicate him... None of my friends or relatives want anything to do with me because everyone is afraid of your man"
I-I’m speechless. I did not know Jun did all this behind my back.
Her eyes flash with primal hatred, anger, and jealousy as she leans in closer, her hands shaking with emotion. "Only Yifan would give me a job as they are enemies—and now I’m stuck with that as*hole." She said the last part under her breath but clear enough for me to hear.
She pulls out a cigarette from her clutch and lights it, taking a slow drag before blowing the smoke into the air.
I watch her, she’s got thinner, bones showing on her figure, eyes dull and sunken, she’s wearing way too much makeup and a full sleeve jumpsuit that’s unlike her style. I grab her hand, dragging her towards the stairs, shaking my head at the man who was wearing Xion’s crest on his chest, watching me all this while.
"What are you doing?" She barks. I find a room and pull us both inside, locking the door.
"Take off your clothes," I order.
"What?"
"You heard me. Either you do it or I’ll. Considering you are only bones and flesh, it won’t take much effort from me." She glares, her jaw ticks, and then just when I thought she’d resist but she turns and unzips her jumpsuit. As it falls down her shoulder, my doubt is confirmed. Huge nasty bruises, teeth marks, scratches... I turn, "You can wear them again." 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
I turn away quickly, my stomach churning. "You can wear it again."
I wait for her to dress, trying to avoid looking at the damage on her skin. She does, her fingers fumbling with the zipper, and finally, she stands fully clothed again.
"You’re sleeping with him."
She looks me in the eyes, "Any better option?"
"What happened to Kristy?"
"W-what?" she pales
"Kristy. Where is she?" Is it a coincidence that Yifan hired both Kristy and Valentina? The woman from my past. "I heard your conversation with Monika."
She looks away, "She too was recruited by Yifan after Axis Architecture went bankrupt."
Jun is going to hear music from me if I come to know it’s his doing that my last company is bankrupt.
"Jun did it."
Oh Jun you are dead.
"Where’s Kristy?"
"I-I don’t know. She—"
"Since you are sleeping with him and carrying his marks on your body, I don’t need to explain you what kind of man he is. So, tell me what you know."
A loud banging on the door make us jump on our heels. I expect it to be Jun or maybe one of his men but the next second Yifan’s gruff voice come through.
Valentina stares at the door as if there’s a grim reaper on the other side.
I barely step to open it when she cups my hands in her sweaty ones, "Kristy is dead. He will kill us too. He killed others as well. Help me."
"Killed who? What are you saying?"
"He wants revenge—"
"Break it." Our eyes turn wide, head snapping at the door as Yifan’s barks.
A second later the entire door shakes with a thud sound.
I see Valentina running for the balcony. She looks at me half hanging to the other side. "If he saw me with you, I’d be dead. Wait for my call."
*CRASH*
The door comes out from hinges and five men barge inside.
