Chapter 152: The crazy family

Jun’s pov

"No. Don’t worry about Mr. Feng. The real power is in the hands of Mrs. Feng." My dad flips me a bird from the corner of the room. "Relax, love. No one in this world can dislike you. Yes, you are annoying, difficult, cranky, demanding—"

"Jun!"

"—intelligent, smart, passionate about her dreams, selfless, and always giving me the best bickering. If anyone has a problem with you, they have to face me."

Her mouth twitches as she tries to act angry but fails miserably. My mom tries to peek into my phone, following me everywhere in the living room. I jump onto the dining table, and she follows me too, of course, with dad’s help. Jeez, the height of clinginess. No wonder people compare me to her.

"I see you’ve upped your buttering game after making it official."

"Have to." I sneak a glance at mom, and she mouths ’official?’ Then she covers her mouth, pointing at my ring finger. Dad, on the other hand, is about to piss himself as he fumbles around the table to make sure his precious wife doesn’t fall. "Gotta set the standards that no one can achieve and keep you by my side forever."

"Those standards have already reached their limit. Can you tell me why I received a call from Architectural Digest’s editor just now?"

"How would I know?"

Yiren rolls her eyes. "Jun! You sent them Suyin’s house pictures along with my portfolio. They want to interview me!"

"Meh, I just shared the details of the next big architect of the industry. Your work speaks for itself, and they’re intelligent enough to grab you before you become unreachable."

"Architectural Digest?" Mom whispers, clawing at my shoulder so I’ll face her once. "Awwwee, my baby is a teddy bear just like his dad."

"Mom, you are sixty. Behave." I hiss and nod at dad, who positions himself with arms wide. I push her off the dining table straight into dad’s arms. She’s already behaving like this; what will she do once she knows I married Yiren?

I turn back to Yiren only to see tears rolling down her eyes.

"Bunny, what happened?" Dammit, she’s in the car, alone, waiting for me to signal her to come inside, and I’m here. "I’m coming," I jump off the table.

"No, please, don’t. I-I just... how did I get so lucky to get you as my life partner? You’re doing so much, and I have nothing to repay you."

"Nothing? Are you kidding me? You gave me confidence, support, love, and my family when I was at the lowest point in my life. I’m launching my F1 team and my dream car because of you. Without you, I’d still be rotting in America, running from everything, away from family, living a lonely, miserable life." She looks at me with wet lashes. "I just want everyone to know how talented my woman is. And you better start working on starting your own furnishing line, or I’ll do something similar."

"Thank you for making me feel special. I love you, hubby. Tonight, you’re getting lucky."

"Ooh, I’m looking forward to it—" I look at my parents, who have already guessed most of the things, "—Wife."

Mom squeals.

A dramatic squeal, and then she launches herself at my phone.

"Wife! You married her!" She tries to snatch my phone. "HI YIREN! I’m his mom, and now yours too. You are so cute! JUN, LET ME TALK TO HER!"

"Leave my phone, Mom." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"Leave my wife, you dumbass. Don’t hurt her." Dad pushes me with a hand on my face. "Give your damn phone to your mom."

"You two are impossible." I can fight mom, but fighting two is impossible, especially when dad is as tall as me, never skips the gym, and I can’t punch him in the face.

Between the power struggle, Dad pins me with his weight, locking my limbs at a very wrong angle, giving Mom the opening to run with my phone.

Dad grins at my face, satisfied with the victory.

Mom smiles softly at the phone. "Hi, sweetheart. I’m Jun’s mom, and your mother-in-law."

"Hello, Mrs. Feng." I hear Yiren’s voice. "Sorry about dropping the bomb on you like this."

"Oh, that’s fine, sweetheart. Without even knowing the entire story, I bet this is my son’s doing. He can be a handful at times."

I snort. "Yeah, thanks for that, mom. I see which side you’re on."

"How—wait, is that my garden behind you?" Mom scowls at me. "You have my daughter-in-law wait outside in the scorching heat?!!"

I don’t know how, but exactly five minutes later, Yiren is escorted inside the mansion by Mom’s most trusted house staff, and she sees me tangled with Dad on the couch.

Yeah.... A memorable day it is.

Kill me.

******

I’m officially an outsider now. Do you hear me complaining? Why would I, when my wife is accepted into the family with an open heart?

My parents were swift enough to call my brothers and sisters-in-law to tell them I did exactly what they were expecting.

Actually, they had a bet on it—that I’d marry Yiren to tie her to me forever.

Oh c’mon. Am I that predictable?

"Hundred bucks, Dr. Wang." Meimei holds her palm out, curling her fingers thrice, asking for her share of the bet.

Shishi groans but begrudgingly reaches into his back pocket and slaps a crisp hundred-note into Meimei’s hand, followed by a note in Suyin, Jianyu, Mom, and Dad’s hand.

"..."

"Don’t think I had faith in you." Shishi growls, rolling his eyes as the three little musketeers with palms out to get shares of the bet. He slapped one note on each palm. "I just did it because they all needed someone on your side. So I became the scapegoat."

Wow.

"I love you, brother. You are the best." I hug him with all my strength. That’s why we all love him so much. He is a softie and has an unending love for us. Though sometimes that love... bites him in the ass. Like today.

"Who else do I owe?" Shishi asks the crowd. "I’m out of bills, so take digital payments, please."

"We." Zian and Vivian speak up in sync as they enter the house. Zian gives me a huge grin. "Thanks, Jun. I’m a hundred bucks richer."

"This is the worst bet of my life. My entire wallet is empty because of you and Jun, Yiren."

Look at him! He is a billionaire. He can cough out billions and won’t even blink.

"Sorry, Dr. Wang. It was his idea." It didn’t take Yiren five seconds to throw me under the bus now that she knows my family is totally chill.

"He is a Feng. He has it in his blood." Mom speaks once she is done ordering the house staff what to make for lunch. "Right, Ding?"

Dad turns a shade red. In his days, he chased mom like crazy, going to the extent of climbing hostel walls and sneaking into her room when they were in university.

"Not only Feng, but Wangs are no different." My aunt, Shishi’s mom, speaks up from the laptop where she is connected to us from London. "I don’t have more sons like you to prove the theory, but my eyes are on Honey."

Honey looks up. "No. I won’t elope with the girl like grandpa. I’ll chase her, kiss her, and bring her home like Dad."

"Honey!" Suyin’s mouth hangs open.

The room burst into laughter, and my aunt turned red to the extent that she excused herself from the screen.

"This family needs a show of its own. I’d love to watch." Yiren whispers to me. "Thanks for making me part of it. I love them."

A phone call interrupts, and Yiren excused herself. My eyes follow her, the gorgeous curve of her hips, her toned legs, long hair.... Her demeanor changes, and lines of tension appear on her forehead.

"What is it?"

"Valentina. She wants to meet me." Yiren’s words silence everyone. "Alone."

"Don’t." Before I could say, Jianyu speaks up. "This is a trap for you."

My eyes read the silent communication happening between Jianyu and Meimei. "You found something."
