Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband-Chapter 259: Do You Think?
Chapter 259: Do You Think?
Serena leaned back in her chair, her fingers lightly drumming against the table as she tried to piece together the fragments of her life that Edwin had revealed. But no matter how hard she focused, her mind remained stubbornly blank, refusing to connect the dots. It was a strange, almost surreal feeling to learn that so many extraordinary events had happened her life—events she couldn’t remember at all.
"Do you think this accident I had..." she began hesitantly, her voice trailing off as she carefully chose her words. "Do you think it might have been caused by the same people who wanted to harm me? The ones who kidnapped you?"
Edwin’s head snapped up at that and he gave a sharp shake of his head. "No," he said firmly. "Those people are dead."
There was something final in his tone, something that warned her not to push further. The question lingering on the tip of her tongue faltered and retreated. She nodded instead, quietly turning her attention back to the untouched food on her plate.
Still, the unease lingered, swirling in the back of her mind. Before she could dwell on it too long, Edwin’s voice broke the silence. "I’ve been planning to travel next month," he said, his tone lighter, almost as if trying to shift the mood. "A few years ago, one of my colleagues retired from the army and started a security business. I was one of the early investors. Now that I’ve retired, he’s invited me to join him. It’s something I’ve been considering." ƒreewebɳovel.com
"If you’d like, we could go together. I’ll bring the travel dates forward. I think you’d enjoy the change of scenery. Exploring a new place might do you some good. And..." he paused, meeting her eyes meaningfully, "I imagine you’d feel more comfortable in neutral territory."
His words struck a chord, and Serena stiffened slightly. He wasn’t wrong—she had been uncomfortable living here. The feeling of being watched, of eyes tracking her every move, was oppressive. She couldn’t relax, couldn’t breathe freely in this house. But leaving...
"Where are you planning to go?" she asked carefully.
"Pinehaven," Edwin replied smoothly. "It’s a small island off the coast. Quiet, peaceful. Not many people know about it. It might be just what you need."
Serena considered his words, letting them roll over in her mind. Pinehaven. It sounded like a place where she could escape this stifling unease, at least for a little while. But even as the thought tempted her, another question loomed: was Edwin offering this as a gesture of goodwill, or was he trying to steer her somewhere for his own reasons?
By his own admission, she had not known him long. What if he was some sort of a human trafficker or something. He’d already said she could not go anywhere of her old places for the time being because of the attack so there was probably no one around her who knew her whereabouts. Though after listening to everything, she wondered if there was anyone who knew of her at all.
The uncertainty nagged at her and so she kept her expression neutral. "It sounds... interesting," she said noncommittally. "I’ll think about it."
The rest of the dinner was a silent affair and Serena sighed as she stood up and walked away while Edwin returned to his study.

Aiden Hawk stared at the endless expanse of the night sky, feeling as if his own world was full of darkness.
He sighed and closed his eyes. His heart clenched painfully as he replayed the events over and over in his mind, searching for the elusive truth.
She wouldn’t have left him. Of that, he was certain. Serena was not the kind of woman to simply walk away without a word, without a reason. But if she hadn’t left, then how—and why—had she disappeared?
And then there was Kimberlee. The image of her standing at the altar, wearing Serena’s ring on her finger, when he had lifted the veil was burned into his memory.
The audacity of it had stunned him. But even more bewildering was the letter Kimberlee had carried—the one supposedly written by Serena. His thoughts shifted to the letter. That damned letter. The one allegedly written by Serena, explaining that she had cold feet and could not go through the marriage. The words didn’t sound like her, the tone didn’t match the woman he loved. No, that letter wasn’t from Serena. He was sure of it.
And another thing that he was certain of—she had been harmed. Someone had done something to Serena, but who? The question gnawed at him.
If someone had taken her away, was it an abduction? But if that were the case, why had no one reached out to him with demands for ransom? It didn’t make sense. None of it did.
He’d already begun investigating anyone who might have had a reason to harm Serena, but so far, his efforts had yielded nothing. A frustrating, maddening blank.
Charles Hawk and Millie both had solid alibis. Their records were also clean, free of any suspicious activity that might indicte that they had put a hit on her in any way.. Even his aunt and uncle had been thoroughly vetted and their every movement accounted for.
Then there was Sidney and Ava. WIth Ava’s promise to return here and take revenge, he had cause to believe that it could be them, but as far as he could tell, they had no intention of returning—or of meddling in their life.
So who was it? Who had the motive, the opportunity, and the audacity to hurt Serena?
Aiden’s mind drifted back to their last conversation. He replayed it over and over in his head, analyzing every word, every pause, every shift in her tone. Had there been a hint, a clue he had missed? What could possibly have happened in the forty, maybe fifty minutes after they spoke? How could everything have gone so wrong in such a short span of time?
He ran a hand through his hair, his jaw tightening as he struggled to make sense of the chaos.
And then it hit him.
Aiden’s eyes snapped open, sharp and focused, as realization dawned.
