Chapter 273: Threat

"Hello, An, my man! How are you doing today?"

Assistant An looked down at his phone and almost grimaced. He should have checked the caller id before answering the call. But, it was important to remain professionl to the boss’ friend and thus he smiled, "Mr. Luca, I’m doing well, thank you. How are you doing?"

"I’m doing good too," Luca responded, his voice full of energy. "But where is your boss? It’s been ages since I’ve seen him. I’ve been trying to get in touch with him, but it seems like every attempt is falling flat."

An couldn’t help but grimace. Luca was always a lively, energetic man and always made An wonder how he got along with his boss who was not... so lively.

Regardless,Hawk on any given day, Aiden could only handle this man’s presence for a few hours before feeling completely drained by his enthusiasm.

But today, with Aiden so singularly focused on finding Serena and looking for clues about who hurt her, engaging in any kind of conversation, especially with someone like Luca, was probably the last thing Aiden would feel like doing.

So, like a good assistant, he tried to divert the man, "The boss has been really busy lately. Even now, he’s tied up in an important meeting. How about I ask him to give you a call back in a few days?"

Luca, however, was clearly not satisfied with the suggestion. "Nope. That’s way too late. You tell him he needs to return the favor, An. He’s got to call me back as soon as possible. This can’t wait."

An hesitated, his fingers lingering on the phone as he weighed his options. Despite everything, Luca was a trusted friend of Mr. Hawk—someone who had been invited to the wedding, even though he hadn’t been able to attend. That history meant Luca would understand if he were told about the situation, but still, An couldn’t shake the weight of the instructions Aiden had given him. Those orders had been clear and non-negotiable.

He let out a quiet sigh before responding, keeping his tone measured. "I’ll pass on your message, Sir, but I must stress that he really is extremely busy right now." An hoped his words would convey the gravity of the situation, though he knew Luca’s persistence would likely get the better of him.

But Luca, in his usual fashion, remained completely oblivious to the unspoken hint and insisted that Aiden call him soon before ending the call.

An stared at the phone in his hand for a moment before sighing and walking into the office. Since a message had been left, he would need to pass it on.

"So, what does he want? Does he have doubts?" Kim asked, her voice sharp as she glanced at Williama, who had just stepped into the house after her meeting with Aiden.

Williama hesitated for a moment, taking in the sharpness of her stepdaughter’s tone. She exchanged a glance with Charles Hawk, who was sitting in the corner, his expression unreadable. A familiar wave of discomfort washed over her. Williama wasn’t about to reveal too much. Especially not the part about Aiden looking for Dale Brown. That was a topic she couldn’t afford to let slip—at least not yet. And not in front of the two people who would like nothing but to see her ruined.

"No," Williama replied, shaking her head slowly, her voice steady but careful. "He doesn’t seem to know that I was involved in helping you with everything. He jusrt discovered my connection to you and wanted to know about it. But I don’t understand. Where is that woman’s body?"

She watched as her ex husband and Kimberlee exchanged a glance before Kim asked her, "I thought you were suppressing the news about that. I mean, Aiden... he’s looking for Serena. I heard he’s been told that the Browns are blocking any information about her. Isn’t that... isn’t that you? You were the one who made sure no one knew, right? Like I asked you to? So, you should know where the dead body is. Why are you asking me?

Williama’s mouth snapped shut at this, her mind racing. Dam* it. She’d forgotten about that. No. She hadn’t been the one to block the news. Why would she have done that? She had no personal stake in it, no deep-rooted reasons to interfere, no love for her dear step daughter ever.of. She’d agreed to assist, calming Kim down and promising to help her get rid of the body, but that had been the extent of her involvement.

She’d even thougt that if Kim was caught then it would be for the best. After all, Kimberlee was Colonel’s only daughter. But now, things had changed. Kim was married to Aiden, which meant that if she made an enemy of her, then she might end up making an enemy of her son. She had to be careful now—careful about what she said, and careful about how she navigated the entire scenario.

"I meant, I made sure she fell down the cliff in that car. But that is it. Why would I do anything with her body?"

Kim narrowed her eyes, her suspicion deepening as she studied Williama’s face. The older woman’s careful tone and deliberate words did little to quell the rising unease within her. Charles shifted in his seat as well, his gaze sharp and assessing as it flicked between the two women. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

"Make sure he can’t reach her," Kim said, her voice dropping to a low, warning tone as she glared at this woman. "If Aiden finds Serena—if he so much as gets a clue—this whole thing could come crashing down. And if I lose what I want, I will make sure you do not survive as well."

Williama straightened her posture, her calm facade faltering slightly, "You think I don’t know that?" she snapped, her voice clipped. "I’ve done more than enough to clean up your messes, Kimberlee. But don’t mistake my willingness to help for blind obedience. And don’t try to threaten me."
