Chapter 275: Aiden Hawk

"Have you heard of the name Aiden Hawk? He recently received the World Business Award for Excellence," Luca said, his voice careful as his eyes studied her face. He frowned, noticing the sudden paleness that drained the color from her cheeks. "Why are you so pale? Is it the heat? I think you should go sit outside for a while. Once this is done, I’ll bring it out to you."

Serena blinked at him, her expression blank, as though she hadn’t fully registered his words. Without a response, she slid off the kitchen island and wandered toward the patio door in a daze. Luca watched her retreating figure with a mix of curiosity and irritation, shaking his head.

"That guy," he muttered under his breath, turning back to the task at hand. "Always grabbing attention. Even his name is enough to make a girl lose her composure." A wry smile tugged at his lips, though he couldn’t help feeling a twinge of annoyance since he had yet to return his call. He needed that recipe to impres Serena.

He paused, thinking about Serena instead of Aiden.. She was different—reserved yet not, charming in her quiet way. He liked her, that much he knew. But before he made any moves, he needed to talk to Dale. The last thing he wanted was to step on someone else’s toes while trying to get things going with his best mate’s sister.

Outside, Serena stood under the blazing sun. For a few moments, she let the warmth seep into her skin, though it did little to thaw the chill that had settled in her chest. Aiden Hawk. The name reverberated in her mind like an echo she couldn’t trace. She knew him—she had to. There was no other explanation for the way her heart had started to race or why her mind felt like it was grasping at half-formed memories.

Her hands fumbled for her phone, pulling it from her pocket with trembling fingers. She unlocked the screen, ready to search for answers, but a shadow falling across her made her pause.

"Serena," Dale’s deep voice broke the quiet. She looked up, startled, and saw the grim set of his jaw, the way his brows furrowed as though bracing himself to deliver bad news.

Quickly, she shoved her phone back into her pocket and turned to face him fully. Whatever was on his mind, she could sense it was important—and possibly urgent.

"I have some news for you," Dale began, his tone measured but heavy. "Aiden Hawk is married to Kimberlee Brown. She’s my adoptive uncle’s daughter... and his ex-lover. Already, Charles Hawk is trying to show off his daughter in law to the people."

Serena blinked, momentarily thrown off. The name Aiden Hawk was starting to sound less like a coincidence and more like a thread tied to her past. She frowned, her mind racing. Just moments ago, she had been on the verge of searching for him, and now Dale was bringing him up in conversation.

"Who is Aiden Hawk?" she asked curiously. "And why does his marriage to your adoptive cousin seem to piss you off? Were you in love with this... Kimberlee Brown?"

The sheer look of revulsion that twisted Dale’s face was answer enough. His lips curled as though the very thought had left a bitter taste in his mouth. Serena immediately backtracked, holding up a hand in surrender.

"Okay, not that, clearly," she muttered. "But what’s the connection? Why does this matter so much?"

Dale hesitated and his jaw tightened as though he was choosing his words carefully. Serena, meanwhile, felt a strange certainty begin to take root, her thoughts moving with increasing clarity. The puzzle pieces were suddenly moving into place.

"Aiden Hawk," she said slowly, testing the words as they left her lips, "is the man I was supposed to marry."

Dale’s expression softened, and he stayed silent. That silence told Serena she was right. A chill ran down her spine as the truth sank in. This was the man she was supposed to marry. A man important enough to leave traces of his name in her heart.

Her thoughts raced. She remembered bits and pieces about Aiden Hawk. He was the man who had learned to cook special dishes for his lover from Luca. That person must have been her. The thought made her chest feel tight. "So, you’ve found out what happened, exactly?" freёweɓnovel_com

Dale shook his head."Not really. But the fact that Kimberlee is being paraded around as his wife is enough to show where you stand in this entire thing. Discarded and forgotten.

"So," she said, her voice quiet but trembling with suppressed emotion, "I was just... replaced? Like it didn’t matter?"

Dale opened his mouth to respond, but before he could, the sliding door to the patio opened with a soft swish. Luca stepped out, balancing a tray filled with small dishes.

Thought you could use some food," Luca said, setting the tray on the table between them. "You both looked like you were plotting something too serious in this heat." He grinned, gesturing to the dishes. "Dig in while it’s fresh."

Serena forced a small smile, grateful for the distraction while Dale too quietly picked up the bruschetta in front of him.

"Thanks, Luca," Serena said softly, picking up a fork and absently poking at a bowl of pasta. She hesitated, her mind still caught on the conversation with Dale, but curiosity got the better of her. Glancing up at Luca, she decided to test the waters.

"So, Luca," she started, keeping her tone casual, "you mentioned Aiden Hawk earlier. What’s he like?"

Luca frowned. "Are you still thinking about Aiden. Hmm. He’s married recently so stop asking about him okay? But, for the record, he is an amazing, honest and loyal man. Though, if you get on his bad side, then he is a horrible, vengeful and petty man. The biggest thing about him is that he doesn’t care who exists in his life and who doesn’t. If you’re there and he likes you enough, he will accomodate you. But if you leave... you leave. He won’t chase after you."
