Falling for the Omega Idol-Chapter 213: A NEW MISSION
HANEUL looked at the watch on his wrist. It was the hormone monitor watch they had been given yesterday. He did not really mind the extra accessory. If it could help avoid another pheromone incident, he would gladly wear one or two more. Besides, the watch also showed the time, so it was pretty handy.
He just wondered how the production team got forty watches so fast. The incident with Choi Yujin only happened two days ago, and the next day, they had this many watches ready. Maybe there was a shop here on Jeju Island that sold them? Or maybe the production team had already bought these watches before the program even started and was only now using them.
Well, none of that really mattered. Especially since right now all forty remaining contestants were gathered once again in the performance hall. The PD had told them yesterday, while the staff handed out the watches, that they could spend the whole day however they wanted on the ship. Because they would have to work hard again the next day, which was today.
Haneul could tell that the next mission would be announced today. And it would most likely be the dance mission.
He looked toward the stage. There was a large divider set up there, obviously to hide whatever was behind it. Whatever was hidden definitely had something to do with the mission they would be told about today.
"Isn’t this exciting?"
A voice he did not really enjoy hearing came from Haneul’s left. He glanced over and saw Park Mirae smiling up at him. They were currently arranged in rows of five, according to their rankings. So, Haneul was standing in the first row between Park Mirae and the contestant ranked seventh.
He smiled back at Park Mirae. His smile probably did not look as natural as the other’s, but he tried his best to at least not seem completely fake. It was hard. Yes, he could act according to the situation, but it wasn’t something that came naturally to him. In his previous world, he had to bend his back and bow to people just so the little money he earned wouldn’t be taken away. So, he knew how to smile even when he didn’t want to. But that did not mean he had ever gotten used to it.
With this new life he’d been given, Haneul had promised himself he would never put himself in those kinds of situations again. He would live this life with his head held high. But he guessed he still had to learn to be flexible. Dealing with Park Mirae made him realize that in this industry he was trying to enter, there would always be people like the other. If he let his emotions control him, he would just be at a disadvantage. So, Haneul decided to treat Park Mirae like a practice dummy. Maybe by the end of this program, he would be used to interacting with people like that.
"Yes, it really is," he replied simply, keeping his tone polite and neutral.
Mirae stared at Kang Haneul for a moment while keeping his smile in place. Ah, this guy was really annoying. Even though he could tell the other was just forcing himself to be polite, Kang Haneul’s smile still looked quite flawless. It seemed almost genuine. Was it all because of that face? How unfair. How wonderful it would be to see it ruined. Ah, if only he could be so lucky.
He then turned his head to look straight ahead.
It was at that moment that a woman walked onto the stage from the wings. Her hair was a sleek jet-black bob, with sharp, icy silver streaks cutting through it. She wore a cropped motor jacket over a simple black tee and dark, tailored trousers, with a pair of sleek leather boots that completed the sharp look. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
It was Dyna, their dance mentor.
As soon as she appeared on stage, a wave of excitement rippled through the contestants. Murmurs and smiles spread as they recognized her, and many straightened their postures.
"Good morning," Dyna said, her voice cool and clear. "Congratulations on making it to the next stage of the competition." She paused briefly before continuing. "But as we all know, this is a competition, so there’s no time to rest. Since I’m the one here, you can probably guess what your next mission is." She paused again, letting the anticipation build. "Yes. It will be a dance mission."
The contestants looked at each other with a mix of nervousness and excitement. Some nodded, already expecting it. A few let out quiet, determined breaths, while others shifted their weight, ready for the challenge.
Haneul had already expected it, so he wasn’t really surprised. But it still made him a bit nervous. After all, dance was his weakest area.
"For this dance mission, you will be divided into ten teams," Dyna explained. "As with your vocal mission, two teams will perform the same song and compete directly against each other. There are five songs in total that you can choose from."
She gestured to a large divider set up behind her. "The songs are listed there. Once you walk behind it, you will select the song you wish to perform. You will then receive a card with further instructions that you must follow. A song will only be available until eight contestants have chosen it. Once a song reaches eight picks, it will be removed from the list and cannot be chosen by anyone after that."
She looked over the group. "We will begin with our current first-ranked contestant, Han Seojun-ssi."
The contestants with lower rankings let out a low groan when they heard that. It meant they would be the last ones to choose again.
Seojun took a slow, deep breath. Then he walked up the stairs to the stage and stepped behind the large divider.
Once he stepped behind it, he saw five stands, each displaying the name of a different song they could choose from. In front of each stand was a small table with eight cards laid out in a neat row.
