Chapter 42: Chapter 42 New Upgrade Task, Future Plans
The Lotus Leaf Frog also climbed onto the roof of the carriage, and unlike Char and the Star Worm, it didn’t gaze up at the stars. Instead, it nestled beside Char, choosing a comfortable position to lie down and rest.
The main theme was companionship.
Even then, it didn’t forget to keep mosquitoes away from Char and Betty. It closed its eyes but still occasionally flicked out its tongue to catch the unwary insects that ventured too close.
Looking at the dazzling starry sky, feeling the cool breeze of dawn, listening to the early autumn night chirping, and seeing the Star Worm, Lantern Firefly, Lotus Leaf Frog, Clover Mantis, and Flower Fairy by his side, Char felt an indescribable joy and satisfaction fill his heart.
It was as if all his thoughts had been cleared out, leaving only an indescribable relaxation and peace throughout his body.
In this rare state of relaxation and satisfaction, he soon felt a vague drowsiness envelop him.
The next morning, he was woken by the piercing sunlight.
The morning sun was so dazzling that even with his eyes closed, he could see a faint red through his eyelids, accompanied by a slight burning sensation.
When Char opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the Clover Mantis and Lantern Firefly exchanging combat techniques mid-air without making a sound to avoid waking him. Their interaction was completely silent.
The Star Worm, Betty, and the Lotus Leaf Frog, like him, were all still asleep.
Sleeping was indeed a contagious affair.
The sunlight shone on him, and at that moment Char felt utterly lazy. He didn’t sit up; instead, he lay there and contentedly started checking his tasks on his personal panel.
[Upgrade Task]
[Task 1]Please! Be like a home!
[Task Description]As a castle owner, well, you’re not quite a castle owner yet.
But anyhow, as a future castle owner, how can your dwelling be so humble?
Divide it into rooms with various functions, especially now that the interior of the carriage is big enough.
Go for it! Move towards a beautiful new life!
[Reward]: Praying Power×250
[Task 2]Pastoral Symphony!
[Task Description]As a mobile castle, how could it only have living quarters?
Forget about grains for now; there’s not enough space.
But other things are possible, like planting some vegetables, raising some poultry, aquatic creatures, enclosing a few pigs, and if possible, even shepherding some sheep—grazing by day, penning by night.
Don’t you like such a pastoral life?
[Reward]: Praying Power×200
There were only two tasks in total, but each task of them alone rewarded a hefty two hundred and two hundred and fifty strands of Praying Power, which was simply eye-popping.
However, this wasn’t the system suddenly becoming overly generous, because these were major tasks; under these two major tasks, there were several minor tasks.
These four hundred and fifty strands of Praying Power were the sum of the Praying Power rewarded for each minor task!
Upgrading the castle to the third stage was not going to be easy.
In fact, it was much harder than the first stage—any game becomes progressively harder to level up as you advance.
Char opened the first task, and with a swipe, five minor tasks appeared before him.
[Task 1]Flowers and Decorations!
[Task Description]How can one’s life lack poetry?
As a castle owner, antiques and gardens are a must.
What? You only own a carriage right now? Well… that shouldn’t lower your standards!
Anyway, start by decorating your home!
[Reward]: Praying Power×50
[Task Two]Bedroom Battle!
[Task Description]You now have enough space, so isn’t it time to consider setting up a bedroom for yourself?
Living, eating, and relieving oneself in the same room is not the life a castle owner should have.
[Reward]: 50 Praying Power
…
There are five tasks in total.
The first task is somewhat easier, as it doesn’t require any blueprints. It’s merely about crafting some small items and planting more flowers and grass to add a living and poetic touch to the carriage.
After all, the system had mentioned, life must be poetic.
This isn’t difficult, having Betty around even saves him the trouble of praying for fresh flower seeds with Praying Power.
It means that these fifty segments of Praying Power are basically free, but when the task is considered complete, that is for the system to determine.
However, with Betty around, this task shouldn’t take too long.
But the following four tasks are not that easy to complete. Char must successively set up a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen, and a washroom.
Physically separating different rooms isn’t tough, but the issue is it needs to align with blueprints too.
Just like the previous beds, tables and chairs, cabinets, and stoves. And for the second stage, each blueprint requires a Prayer Crystal, which equates to one hundred segments of Praying Power.
That’s too much, considering he had completed a difficult task and was only rewarded twenty-five segments of Praying Power.
One hundred segments of Praying Power—he didn’t know how long it would take or how many tasks he’d need to perform.
Thankfully, the system had some semblance of conscience, returning fifty segments of Praying Power for each task; otherwise, he would really be tasking himself to death.
Char decided to start with the first task.
The first task not only spared the need to spend Praying Power but also contributed fifty segments of Praying Power to him. There was no better task than this.
However, before that, he had to spend the current Praying Power he had.
The Praying Power from this task he planned for other purposes, there was no rush to continue upgrading the castle.
Thinking of this, Char suddenly sat up, then rolled off the carriage roof and headed to the Prayer Altar.
In the somewhat cramped square chamber, over twenty segments of Praying Power floated above the wish altar, emitting a sacred and dreamy brilliance, turning the stone slab that served as the altar golden.
An ancient stone slab engraved with images of Wish Bottles and wishing stars, brilliant light danced across it.
Looking at the Praying Power before him, Char’s face was filled with the joy of a bountiful harvest.
Even though the goblins had brought him considerable danger, the yield was enormous, contributing over twenty segments of Praying Power in one go.
This was the first time he had received so much Praying Power at once.
If used for recruiting Magic Pets, he could get two new Magic Pets in one go!
But now, Char certainly wouldn’t use it for recruiting Magic Pets.

With limited Magic Pet slots, each slot was extremely precious.
Now that he already had the protection of the Clover Mantis, there was no issue with safety, there was no need to waste a slot.
Even though the Star Worm and Lantern Firefly could achieve a significant leap in combat power through evolution, and the growth limits of Lantern Firefly and Clover Mantis may not necessarily be lower than those Magic Pets evolved from Demon Beasts.
But recruiting a Magic Pet evolved from a normal animal and recruiting one from a Demon Beast still had significant differences.
After being recruited, Lantern Firefly and the others at their strongest—measuring in combat power—gauged just 5 Challenge Levels, and in most cases even just 1 or 2 Challenge Levels.
Whereas, directly recruiting a Demon Beast as a Magic Pet starts at 6 Challenge Levels, and in high cases, the Challenge Level might even reach 9 or 10.
This is a completely different concept!
So, for Char, instead of hurriedly filling slots with two Magic Pets whose combat power could very likely be similar to that of Lantern Firefly and Lotus Leaf Frog, it’s better to save the slots for later summons.
By then, the new Magic Pets would start at 6 or 7 Challenge Levels.
