Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 180: Avoid the breakfast_Part 2
Viola genuinely didn’t know whether to laugh or feel sorry for Laila at the attempt to threaten her with the supreme Alpha. She wasn’t afraid of what Sebastian would do, not even slightly. Yes, Laila was also his mate, but Viola knew with certainty that he would not raise a hand against her over this.
"Go ahead and tell him. I do not care whether you are his mate or not, I am the Luna, and I hold a far greater say over matters that concern our pack members than you ever will." Viola shot back without holding back her words. "You are more than capable of affording yourself a new pair of shoes, do not use such a pathetic excuse to hurt someone who cannot fight back."
Done talking, Viola turned to help the trembling Sofia walk, but Laila suddenly lunged forward and reached out to seize her by the hair, but a firm hand closed around her wrist before she could make contact with Viola, stopping her hand. She spun around and found herself looking into a pair of silver eyes that didn’t belong to the Alpha but carried nearly the same weight.
"No, no, Miss Serrano, you show respect to our Luna." Nick said pleasantly, with a forced smile on his face as Laila wrenched her wrist free from his grip and turned a furious glare on him. He stepped back quickly, both hands raised in surrender before she burned him with her eyes.
"How dare you?" Laila gritted out, feeling deeply insulted. People who had once never dared speak to her or even breathe too closely in her direction were now beginning to disrespect her openly, and all of it was because this wolfless woman had cheated her way into winning that competition. Nick might be the Alpha’s cousin, but he had never once had the nerve to come anywhere near her before now.
"You have absolutely no right to lay a hand on the Luna, Miss Serrano. You may be the Alpha’s so-called mate, but Vee is the Luna now. Accept that and stop being delusional." Zoe said with a sharp scoff, moving quickly to support Sofia’s other arm as the she-wolf began to sink toward the floor again.
Laila’s eyes swept around her, and when she noticed her two companions already bowing their heads toward the so-called Luna, her anger mounted. Taking in Zoe and Nick flanking Viola on either side, Laila understood that there was nothing she could do right now except back off. But she would make Viola deeply regret crossing her, for the third time since she had dragged her pathetic self into their pack.
"Just you wait and see." Laila warned. "Just as we celebrated your wedding ceremony, we will be celebrating your funeral." She turned on her heel and walked away towards the hall. This wasn’t over, because before this day ends, Sebastian would have to make his pick and deal with his wife before Laila does it herself!
Viola watched the she-wolf go and then turned worried eyes to Sofia, who was growing visibly weaker by the second, before looking at Nick. "Can you help me carry her?"
Nick looked genuinely taken aback by the request. He looked at Sofia with a small grimace, she had vomit all over her, and then looked down at his clean, immaculate suit that had taken an enormous amount of persuasion and pressure on his part just to get Zoe to sell it to him in the first place.
Though Sofia was technically his sister-in-law, they had never actually exchanged more than a word or two even back before she had been announced to have lost her mind, because Nick and his brother were not on good terms, and that distance had extended to her by default.
On top of that, Nick was genuinely, deeply scared of the she-wolf now. She reminded him of a ghost from a horror film that had thoroughly traumatized him as a child, and he had avoided her as carefully as possible ever since, because honestly, who wouldn’t? What sane person walked around with their hair completely covering their face at all times?
He had even forgotten what she looked like without it, and he had absolutely no desire to get close enough to her right now to be reminded of her face or the ghost.
He hesitated, visibly torn, and before he could make up his mind Zoe stepped forward and rolled her eyes, shoving him firmly on the shoulder.
"Carry her! I will have my team design you another suit."
"It’s not only about the suit." He leaned in and dropped his voice to a hushed whisper directed at Zoe, his expression genuinely apprehensive. "I heard from people that she bites, what if she bites me?" From everything he had heard about this she-wolf, none of it was good, and his brother had warned him more than once to stay well clear of his wife.
"She is in a terrible condition, Nicholas. Carry her." Came Viola’s firm, even voice, and Nick’s back immediately straightened at the sound of his full name, Viola only ever used it when she was running out of patience.
"Okay, okay, I will carry her. But you all stay close behind me. I do not want her teeth anywhere near my skin." Nick said, stepping forward with visible reluctance before gathering Sofia carefully into his arms.
The moment he lifted her, the smell hit him like a wall, an overwhelming, pungent scent of a body long unwashed, and his stomach turned violently. But he swallowed it down and barely managed to suppress a whimper as her head rolled and came to rest dangerously close to his shoulder.
"She is going to bite me!" He cried, hurrying toward the elevator and throwing anxious glances down at her as he went. "I heard she has rabies. I do not want my wolf to contract it, it is incredibly difficult to cure rabies in a werewolf, you know."
"For heaven’s sake, Nick, will you please just be quiet and carry her properly?!" Viola scolded as they all filed into the elevator and she pressed the button for her penthouse floor.
"What about the breakfast?" Zoe asked as she watched the floor number change, realizing they were heading back up. They were already late, and while she didn’t think Sofia should be left alone in this state, a small part of her thought Viola should still go ahead. But Viola spoke before she could voice it.
"I will make it up to the guests later. Sofia needs attention right now, she is burning up. Do you have the healer’s contact?"
Zoe nodded and Viola told her to make the call immediately.
By the time Nick carried Sofia into Viola’s penthouse, the she-wolf had begun convulsing, white foam spilling from the corners of her mouth.
They laid her down on the bed in the guest room and stepped back. When the healer arrived a few minutes later, Viola, Zoe, and Nick, who was now shirtless, his shirt having been thoroughly ruined, paced restlessly outside the guest room door, waiting in tense silence for the healer to emerge with news of what was happening inside.
When he finally came out, he addressed them with a calm but measured expression.
"Her condition has been stabilized. It appears she consumed something that contained a severe amount of wolfsbane, but thankfully she vomited it out before it could harm her further. She will recover fully with proper rest."
Wolfsbane? How had she consumed something with wolfsbane when such things were strictly kept away from the food werewolves consumed? In fact, apart from prisoners and criminals, wolfsbane wasn’t easy to come by because it was deadly to their kind. So how did Sofia get it in her food? Did someone try to poison her?
Viola wondered quietly as she listened to the healers other instructions.
By the time the healer packed up and left, it was well past the time for breakfast and Viola knew without question that she had missed it entirely. But rather than feel guilty or troubled about it, she felt an almost overwhelming wave of relief wash through her.
