Final Life Online-Chapter 255: Star island
Caria nodded. "Perfect. Easy money."
Lyra scanned the area once more. "And it keeps us active without drawing attention."
Sophia agreed. "Good balance."
They accepted two small jobs and left the guild. No fanfare. No stares. Just another group of adventurers heading out.
The first job was simple—clearing oversized boars near farmland outside the city. The fight was quick. No danger. No surprises.
Caria handled most of it with wide swings.
Lyra finished the rest cleanly.
Sophia healed a few scratches.
Aria kept watch.
Puddle floated proudly. "Easy fight!"
Rhys nodded. "Good. That’s how it should be for now."
They returned by evening, turned in the job, and collected the reward.
The second job was even simpler—escorting a merchant wagon partway down the main road. Nothing attacked. The merchant talked too much.
Caria tuned him out.
Lyra stayed alert.
Sophia smiled politely.
Puddle listened with interest. "Why humans talk so much?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
That night, they ate together again at the inn.
Caria counted coins. "See? I like this phase."
Lyra smirked. "Don’t get too comfortable."
Aria looked thoughtful. "Still, this matters. Stability lets us prepare."
Sophia nodded. "Strength isn’t only built in danger."
Rhys watched them quietly.
This was good.
No pressure. No tests. No seals breaking.
Just time.
Later, as they rested, a messenger passed through the inn, talking loudly about distant border trouble. Nothing close. Nothing urgent.
Rhys listened, then looked away.
The next morning, the team packed their gear and left the inn. The city streets were busy as usual, but they paid little attention to the crowds. Their path now led away from the mainland, toward the docks.
Caria stretched. "Finally. Water under our feet."
Lyra kept her eyes on the horizon. "Star Island isn’t exactly a short trip. We need to stay sharp."
Sophia checked supplies. "Potions, rations, gear... all ready."
Aria carried her notes and tools carefully. "I want to study the ley lines there. Star Island’s magic is unique."
Puddle floated near Rhys. "Boat! Water! Adventure!"
They reached the harbor, where a small but sturdy ship awaited. The captain greeted them quickly, recognizing them as adventurers but asking no questions.
Once aboard, the sails caught the wind. The city shrank behind them, and the waves carried them steadily toward the open sea.
Caria leaned against the railing. "No monsters, no seals... just waves. I like this."
Lyra watched the sky. "And that won’t last forever. Star Island will have its challenges."
Sophia nodded. "Different magic, different threats. But less... pressing than a mountain seal."
Aria adjusted her gear. "I’m curious about what we’ll find. Some of the star maps hint at ancient guardians, maybe even ruins."
Rhys stood at the bow, wind in his hair. "We go together. Step by step. First the sea, then the island. Nothing more complicated than that for now."
Puddle twirled in excitement. "Team ready! Star Island ready!"
The ship sailed on. The sun rose higher, glinting off the waves. Ahead, the horizon promised a new adventure, a new challenge, and another chance to grow stronger.
The day passed quietly. The sea was calm, the wind steady, and the crew kept to their tasks. The team spent the time checking gear, reviewing maps, and quietly talking about what they might find on Star Island.
Caria leaned back in her chair. "This is... relaxing. Weirdly relaxing."
Lyra chuckled. "Don’t get used to it. Star Island has its own rules."
Sophia carefully inspected her potions and scrolls. "I want to see how the local magic flows. It may be different from anything we’ve encountered."
Aria traced ley lines in her notebook, her eyes bright with interest. "The patterns here could reveal something about the ancient structures."
Rhys nodded. "Keep your minds sharp, but conserve your energy. The island will be our first real test after this calm."
Puddle floated above them, spinning in small circles. "Adventure soon! Puddle ready!"
As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, the faint outline of Star Island appeared in the distance—a cluster of jagged peaks rising from the ocean, shrouded in mist.
Lyra squinted. "There it is. Looks peaceful from here, but don’t be fooled."
Caria grinned. "Finally. Land under our feet again."
Sophia studied the shape of the island. "It’s isolated. Its magic won’t be influenced by the mainland. That can be dangerous—or advantageous."
Aria nodded. "If the ruins are intact, we might uncover knowledge lost for centuries."
Rhys rested a hand on the ship’s railing. "Soon we step onto new ground. We move together, as always. Stay alert, but stay ready to learn."
Puddle cheered. "Team ready! Island ready!"
The ship carried them closer. Mist swirled around the peaks as the sun set, and the first hints of Star Island’s secrets waited silently, just beyond the waves.
As night fell, the mist thickened, wrapping the peaks in a soft, glowing haze. Lanterns on the ship cast faint reflections across the water, making the waves shimmer.
Caria leaned on the railing, watching the fog. "It looks... eerie. I like it."
Lyra stayed alert, eyes scanning the horizon. "Eerie or not, we can’t let our guard down. Islands like this have a way of hiding trouble."
Sophia checked her potions one last time. "If the magic here is strong, we’ll need everything ready."
Aria traced the shape of the peaks again in her notebook. "The ley lines might converge near the tallest peak. That could be where the oldest structures are."
Rhys nodded. "We land at first light. Rest now, conserve energy. We don’t know what the island will throw at us."
Puddle floated above the deck, glowing faintly. "Puddle sleep now! Ready later!"
The team settled into the ship’s cabins for the night. Even with the mist around them, they felt a sense of calm—brief, but necessary.
When the first light of dawn touched the mist, Star Island was clearer. Jagged peaks rose sharply, with thick forests spreading toward the shore. The island looked alive, almost watching the approaching ship.
Caria stretched. "Alright, let’s finally set foot on this place."
Lyra gripped her weapons. "Stay close. Watch the terrain."
Sophia readied her magic. "If the island’s guardians exist, we’ll be ready."
Aria clutched her notebooks and tools. "This is what I’ve been waiting for."
Rhys took a deep breath, looking at the misty forest ahead. "Together. Step by step. Let’s see what Star Island has kept hidden for centuries."
Puddle spun in the air, excitement shining bright. "Adventure time! Star Island, here we come!"
The ship’s anchors dropped near a calm cove, and the team stepped onto the soft sand, leaving the safety of the ship behind. The island’s secrets awaited them.
