Chapter 1945: Su Yi’s Path of Divinity

Xi Ning’s message was about the Path of Divinity.

Apparently, in the ancient ruins of the prior epoch, there were already traces of the Path of Divinity’s imminent arrival. If all went as she expected, the Path of Divinity would appear within a year.

When the time came, the Immortal Realm’s chaos source would completely erupt, creating a hidden chaos realm. The divine children called this hidden realm formed of the Immoral Realm’s chaos source “the Epoch Battlefield.” It was only by entering this Epoch Battlefield that one could find this epoch’s opportunities to achieve divinity.

“Opportunities to achieve divinity” referred to Epoch Laws not yet under someone’s control, and they were highly limited in number. That in turn meant opportunities to achieve divinity were very limited!

In her message, Xi Ning urged Su Yi to raise his cultivation to the Great Profound State sooner rather than later. Otherwise, when the Epoch Battlefield appeared, he’d miss out on this rare opportunity to achieve divinity.

If possible, Xi Ning hoped Su Yi would take a trip to the Place Abandoned By Heaven. There, the two of them could meet up and hunt for good fortune together. It might well help him break through.

Su Yi couldn’t help but sink into contemplation after learning all this.

Within a year, the Immortal Realm’s source power would erupt, creating the Epoch Battlefield. Opportunities to achieve divinity would be available but highly limited.

Su Yi could picture it already. Fierce, brutal conflict would break out amongst the divine children as they competed for chances at divinity!

But Su Yi wasn’t overly concerned.

Since returning from the Spirit Domain half a year ago, he’d seldom left his quarters. He was focused on divining the next steps in his pursuit of the Dao of the Sword.

He also pondered whether Li Fuyou, who’d gathered several of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos and was strong enough to kill gods in the Great Profound Stage, didn’t just prove his Dao and achieve divinity in the Immortal Realm.

The Nine Mysteries of Chaos were each naturally formed chaos treasures, but what really made them so enticing was that they each represented an opportunity to achieve divinity.

Back then, Li Fuyou had gathered the Sword of Proximity, the Yin-Yang Diagram, the Sky-Covering Boat, and the Realm-Demarcating Ruler. That meant he had four different ways of achieving divinity at his disposal. But in the end, he gave all four of them to his disciples; he didn’t use any of them for himself.

That was highly unusual, but after giving it much thought, Su Yi could guess what Li Fuyou had been thinking. There were two likely explanations for his decision. First, the four paths to divinity the Mysteries of Chaos represented didn’t suit his Dao of the Sword. Second, he was searching for the strongest possible Path of Divinity. He’d rather miss an opportunity than become a subpar god.

Su Yi thought the latter option was more likely. After all, Epoch Laws weren’t all created equal. Mastering different Epoch Laws would give different results upon achieving divinity. A god’s Epoch Law determined the quality of their Godhead and influenced what kind of Divine Throne they managed to create.

Most of those attempting to achieve divinity couldn’t afford to be picky, as the vast, vast majority of Epoch Laws had already been claimed. Finding any Epoch Law, no matter its compatibility or quality, was an enormous blessing. Who’d willingly pass such an opportunity up?

But Li Fuyou was different. He’d killed gods before, so he surely understood their power better than other Great Realm cultivators. He thus chose to give up achieving divinity based on the Mysteries of Chaos, instead seeking out a more satisfying Path of Divinity in the River of Epochs.

After thinking all that through, Su Yi spent the past half year trying to divine the next steps of his pursuit of the Dao of the Sword. And in the end... he realized that he was looking for a donkey while riding on a donkey’s back. He’d already grasped his ideal Path of Divinity.

Reincarnation!

The gods did not tolerate reincarnation because it could strip them of their Godheads, shatter their Divine Thrones, terminate their Daos, and plunge them back into the dust of mundanity.

It was obvious how much they feared reincarnation’s power. This in turn proved that reincarnation was a power of the Grand Dao with the potential to become a true Epoch Law!

Upon realizing this, Su Yi naturally wasn’t interested in other Epoch Laws. Thus, he wasn’t particularly eager for the imminent opportunities to achieve divinity. All he had to do was keep cultivating, and eventually, he’d be able to use the Laws of Reincarnation to achieve divinity!

There was no need to seek out opportunities or compete with other people; who could compete with him over reincarnation?

Su Yi also highly suspected that the Dao of Profound Ruin, a similarly taboo power, had the potential to become an extraordinary Epoch Law. After all, the mysteries of Profound Ruin could sever karmic attachments. The Book of Karma had experienced this firsthand.

Once he’d combed through it all, Su Yi even started to look down on the Dipankara Buddha. After all, the Buddha of the Western Paradise had gone to such lengths to seize the Book of Karma, all to control its karmic power… while Su Yi actually rather looked down on the Book of Karma.

When Su Yi did the comparison, he was increasingly aware of how wondrous and taboo both powers of the Grand Dao were.

But there’s no reason I can’t take a trip to the Place Abandoned by Heaven. Even if I can’t break through, I can gather Undying Materials in preparation for future cultivation, thought Su Yi.

He’d spent half a year in secluded cultivation at the Academy of Eternal Night, Now, the curtains had fallen on the Immortal Realm’s restructuring.

Next, he had to focus on his cultivation. He had to prepare to prove his Dao and enter the Great Profound Stage!

The only thing Su Yi found an awful pity was that he’d yet to encounter a real god. Otherwise, he’d have loved to try killing one in the Great Unity Stage.

If he did, he’d have surpassed Li Fuyou’s attainments in the Great Realm. After all, Li Fuyou was at the peak of the Great Profound Stage when he slew lesser gods.

……

“I’ll leave the Academy of Eternal Night’s affairs up to you,” said Su Yi. He’d called Liu Yun, Lin Feng, the Sword-Bearing Ape, and the Red Dragon Dao Monarch over and told them of his plans to explore the Place Abandoned By Heaven. He wasn’t sure when he’d return.

“Rest assured, Master. Your disciple won’t let you down!” Lin Feng said solemnly.

The others nodded.

“Begin preparations. When the curtains fall on this struggle for divinity, we’ll re-establish the Central Immortal Court,” said Su Yi. “We can only ensure peace and prosperity for the masses and maintain order with centralized leadership.”

Here, Su Yi smiled. “And I’ll personally arrange opportunities at divinity for you.”

He wasn’t worried about achieving divinity himself, but he wouldn’t miss the opportunity to enter the Epoch Battlefield and fight for Epoch laws. Even if he couldn’t use them, he could give them to other people.

His promise left the others stunned. He was far too casual about it, as if opportunities to achieve divinity were already at the tip of his fingers.

That very day, Su Yi silently left the Academy of Eternal Night.

……

The Place Abandoned By Heaven.

Murky gray fog hung in the air, permeating the ancient, primeval landscape. Everything was withered, barren, and empty.

Halfway up a mountain.

“Waiting like this won’t solve anything.” Luo Tiandu sighed, a bit dejected.

A barren black plain stood before the mountain. Nothing grew there, not even an inch of grass; it was completely devoid of vitality. The ground was littered with corpses, and no matter where you went, there was no avoiding Divine Remnants.

If they wanted to proceed deeper into the Place Abandoned by Heaven, they had to pass through this barren black plain.

Luo Tiandu and Xi Ning had been stuck here for three months. Every inch of progress was a struggle. They’d faced the danger bravely several times now, but in the end, the Divine Remnants always intercepted them, and they had no choice but to retreat in dejection.

“If only that mysterious spear goddess would help us again,” murmured Luo Tiandu. He couldn’t help but picture that terrifying, unfathomably powerful spearwoman.

Xi Ning sat off to the side, focused on her cultivation. When Luo Tiandu brought up the spearwoman, she couldn’t help but frown.

“I almost forgot. If Su Yi and that spear goddess cross paths, I’m afraid it’ll lead to conflict.” Xi Ning rubbed her forehead.

Luo Tiandu was stunned. “A’Ning, are you saying that Su guy is on his way to the Place Abandoned By Heaven?”

“That’s right. He’s most likely on his way here already.” Xi Ning nodded.

Luo Tiandu instantly felt dejected, and his heart filled with wordless sourness. “A’Ning, how could you not discuss something so important with me first?”

Xi Ning said, “Relax. If you and Fellow Daoist Su fight, he’ll pummel you, but there’s no need to fear for your safety.”

“.....” Luo Tiandu grimaced. He felt thoroughly stifled. I’m a lofty, unparalleled divine son. When did A’Ning start seeing me as Su Yi’s inferior?

“Of course, I didn’t invite Fellow Daoist Su here to teach you a lesson. If you’re afraid, out of respect for me, I’m sure he’ll refrain from hurting you.” When Xi Ning spoke of Su Yi, her tone lightened considerably, and her bright eyes sparkled.

“??” Luo Tiandu didn’t know what to say. It sounds like she’s trying to comfort me, but this is about as comforting as a kick to the groin!

He took a moment to steady himself, then asked, “So… why did you invite him?”

Xi Ning explained, “The power of reincarnation can counter the Divine Remnants. With Fellow Daoist Su here, we’ll be able to find more Undying Materials. We won’t have to waste any more time stuck here, either.”

Luo Tiandu was increasingly displeased. The more Xi Ning relied on Su Yi, the more useless he felt. What man could bear such a thing?

Luo Tiandu took a deep breath, then said solemnly, “A’Ning, I’ll prove to you that I’m in no way inferior to that Su guy!!”

His eyes shone with determination.

Xi Ning was just about to say something when a calm voice emanated from afar.

“And how do you plan to prove that?”

Xi Ning lit up with delight, rose, and gazed into the distance. A familiar figure was fast approaching.

“Fellow Daoist Su is here.” Her lips curved into a smile.

Luo Tiandu could clearly sense the instantaneous improvement of her mood. He’d never seen her in such high spirits before. There was even a hint of eagerness and delight on her picture-perfect face—something he had also never seen before.
