Chapter 1972: The Divine Venerate Kills the Heart

The two terrifying figures were a mature beauty and a middle-aged man with purple robes and a curly beard.

The mature beauty stood beside Xi Ning. She was graceful and curvy, and her black hair was tied up and held in place by a pale blue hairpin. She wore an ink-black, wide-sleeved dress, and her skin was fairer than snow.

She was beautiful, but colder than ice, and when she surveyed her surroundings, her gaze was as sharp and imposing as a knife. As soon as she arrived, she looked Su Yi up and down appraisingly. It was extraordinarily uncomfortable.

The middle-aged man with the curly beard stood beside Luo Tiandu. His stride was as powerful as a tiger’s or a dragon’s, thoroughly majestic, and every movement and gesture he made put enormous pressure on those around him.

But the mature beauty and curly-bearded man shared their most eye-catching feature: wisps of the strange and inscrutable power of the Divine Dao!

That invisible pressure made Xi Ning, Luo Tiandu, and the divine emissaries tremble. They felt as uneasy as if they were walking on ice.

“Fellow Daoist Su, in a moment, no matter what happens, please, trust me. Whatever you do, don’t get angry. Leave everything to me,” Xi Ning transmitted from afar at top speeds, a hint of worry on her beautiful face.

She then proceeded to transmit an introduction of the mature beauty and curly-bearded middle-aged man.

The woman was called Xi Yue, and she was from the Xi Family. By seniority, she was Xi Ning’s great aunt. The curly-bearded middle-aged man in purple was called Luo Heng. He was from the Luo Family, and he was Luo Tiandu's great uncle.

Both were true, honest-to-goodness gods, and they were famous even in the God Domain. Their statuses were so lofty as to make the masses prostrate themselves before them.

The day prior, Xi Yue and Luo Heng’s avatars of will successfully descended into the Epoch Battlefield.

Su Yi could already vaguely guess that the two deities had come looking for him with ill intentions. Xi Ning and Luo Tiandu were nothing but juniors; they wouldn’t be able to dissuade them. There was no way that Xi Ning and Luo Tiandu had led the deities to Su Yi of their own accord.

As Su Yi pondered, Xi Ning and her companions stopped not far away.

“You’re the famous Su Yi?” asked Luo Heng. His voice boomed like a gong, making the surrounding skies tremble. His gaze was deep and heavy as he looked Su Yi up and down without reservation, all the while exerting formless pressure.

“That’s right,” Su Yi said flatly. He just stood there, unmoving, like a boulder in turbulent seas. He neutralized the full extent of that terrifying divine majesty without moving a muscle.

Luo Heng seemed a bit surprised. He couldn’t help but take a deep, hard look at Su Yi. “You’re extraordinary indeed.”

A moment later, Luo Tiandu hurried over. “Fellow Daoist Su, this is my great uncle’s avatar of will. He’s descended into the Epoch Battlefield to…”

But here, Luo Heng snorted and interrupted him. “Tiandu, when this lofty one speaks, there is no need for your input.”

Luo Tiandu stiffened and silently stepped aside. He was just about to silently transmit something to Su Yi when Luo Heng said, “Do not think of sneaking right beneath my nose. When it’s time for you to speak, I’ll naturally grant you the opportunity. When it isn’t, you are to be silent. Transmitting messages isn’t permitted either!” R̃âΝỗ𐌱ĘŜ

He spoke with such imposing force that many of those present fell as silent as cicadas in winter.

Luo Tiandu lowered his head. “Understood.”

He was visibly fraught with worry. He tried to communicate with Su Yi with his eyes; it seemed he hoped that Su Yi would endure and refrain from getting angry.

Su Yi just smiled, not at all concerned. Luo Heng wasn't his great uncle. How could he possibly let him do as he pleased?

Especially since, no matter how powerful Luo Heng’s true body was, this was no more than an avatar of will.

Meanwhile, Xi Ning transmitted to Su Yi, “Fellow Daoist, Divine Venerate Luo Heng wants you dead. You must be careful! But should this really come to blows, I’ll do whatever it takes to save you. When the time comes, my great aunt won’t just stand back and watch, either. With her help, we’ll naturally be able to resolve this predicament.”

She too sounded worried. Her voice was comforting and determined.

Su Yi was moved. There was no doubt about it; Xi Ning was completely on his side. To Su Yi, realizing that was enough. He wasn’t at all concerned about the rest.

But then, the icy, beautiful Divine Venerate Xi Yue said coldly, “A’Ning, you are not to get involved either.”

It wasn’t a discussion. It was an order!

Divine Venerate Xi Yue seemed to have sensed Xi Ning’s secret conversation with Su Yi.

The atmosphere silently grew stifled.

Xi Ning pursed her lips. “Great Aunt, before I brought you to see Fellow Daoist Su, you promised not to do anything disadvantageous to him. You cannot renege on your promise!”

Divine Venerate Xi Yue just patted her noncommittally on the shoulder. “Just watch for now.”

Meanwhile, Divine Venerate Luo Heng approached, stopping only when he was less than one hundred feet away from Su Yi.

Then, he said coolly, “Tiandu already told me everything about me, and he urged me against seeing you as a heretic.”

“If you have something to say, speak directly,” said Su Yi. “No need to beat around the bush.”

The divine emissaries working under Luo Tiandu couldn’t help but gasp. How could he be so rude?

Only Xi Ning and Luo Tiandu remained calm; they were used to this.

Divine Venerate Luo Heng furrowed his brow, then said, “Tiandu doesn’t make requests of other people lightly. He begged for mercy on your behalf. I naturally have to give him face.”

He paused, then said, “How about this? Offer up the complete mysteries of reincarnation, and I’ll spare you just this once.”

The look on Xi Ning’s beautiful face darkened, and Luo Tiandu looked stricken. He cried out, “Great Uncle, have you considered the position you’re putting me in by doing this?”

Divine Venerate Luo Heng’s gaze instantly frosted over. He raised his hand and sealed Luo Tiandu in place, preventing him from speaking.

“Tiandu, you’re a divine son of the Luo Family, yet you’ve repeatedly spoken up on behalf of that heretic. Have you considered the position you’re putting me in?” Luo Heng said with dignity. “Stand there and reflect upon what you’ve done!”

The crowd fell as silent as cicadas in winter. These were the abilities of a god. They could chastise and punish even divine children!

“You’re chastising one of your juniors in front of an outsider without the slightest politeness. How awe-inspiring!” Su Yi laughed, his tone barbed.

How could Su Yi possibly miss that Divine Venerate Luo Heng was doing this not just to knock some sense into Luo Tiandu, but as a warning to him?

Divine Venerate Luo Heng narrowed his eyes and stared at Su Yi. “Provocative words mean nothing to me at all. All I need from you now is a clear answer!”

The atmosphere was austere and oppressive.

Xi Ning was visibly enraged, but just as she was about to say something, Divine Venerate Xi Yue pressed down on her shoulder. “I already agreed not to touch the heretic, so don’t make this difficult for me, A’Ning. You and I can just stand back and watch.”

“I agree with that last statement of hers completely.” Su Yi faced Xi Ning and smiled. “Just stand aside and watch the show.”

Xi Ning was stunned. She sighed to herself.

Divine Venerate Xi Yue, however, turned to look at Su Yi, her eyes glinting like knives. “If you lower your head, I can guarantee that Daoist Brother Luo Heng won’t cause any further trouble for you.”

Su Y glanced at her. “Since you’re so well-intentioned, why not tell your Daoist Brother Luo Heng that he’d be best off lowering his head and apologizing to me? If he does, I promise to let him off without punishment.”

“You…!” Divine Venerate Xi Yue furrowed her brow, obviously enraged. “Very well. Since you stubbornly refuse to see the light, you’re on your own. Watch yourself!”

Meanwhile, murderous intent surged in the depths of Divine Venerate Luo Heng’s gaze. “Are you sure you don’t want to accept my good intentions?”

Su Yi glanced into the distance, where Luo Tiandu was sealed. Frantic anxiety, helplessness, and bitterness were written all over his face.

When he sensed Su Yi’s gaze, Luo Tiandu lowered his head in dejection and shame; he dared not meet Su Yi’s gaze.

After a moment’s silence, Su Yi gestured to Luo Tiandu and said calmly, “Out of consideration for him, I’ll endure just this once and give you a chance.”

Divine Venerate Luo Heng was briefly stunned. Then, he was so furious that he laughed. “Oh? What kind of opportunity?”

Su Yi’s gaze shifted over to Divine Venerate Luo Heng. His lips parted, and he uttered just one syllable. “Scram!”

It was just one word, but it went off like a thunderclap.

The divine emissaries were dumbstruck. How… how could he possibly be so bold?

Divine Venerate Xi Yue was dumbstruck. It seemed she too had never anticipated that Su Yi would be so brazen.

Xi Ning felt a complex mix of emotions as she realized that Su Yi really was looking out for Luo Tiandu. Otherwise, given his contemptuous, domineering personality, he’d have attacked a long time ago!

Divine Venerate Luo Heng’s face was ashen and unsightly. How dare a heretic blaspheme me to my face!?

Boom!

A terrifying aura spread outward. Luo Heng’s purple robes billowed, and stinging, dazzlingly bright Laws of the Divine Dao interwove.

The aura alone was enough to leave most of those nearby overcome with despair.

“You… you’re really courting death!” Divine Venerate Luo Heng said slowly and clearly, every word full of monstrous murderous intent.

He took a step forward, then ripped through the sky and swung his palm at Su Yi.

At that moment, Luo Tiandu sighed to himself. There’s no more room left to maneuver.

The nearby divine emissaries couldn’t help but reveal pitying looks. They could already picture Su Yi getting mercilessly slaughtered.

At the same time, Divine Venerate Xi Yue glanced at Xi Ning, expecting to see her worried on Su Yi’s behalf. She even assumed that Xi Ning would cast aside all reservations and rush to Su Yi’s aid.

Nothing of the sort happened. On the contrary, Xi Ning was so calm that it seemed a bit strange!

Divine Venerate Xi Yue found this confusing, but before she could wrap her head around it, Su Yi attacked.

He took a step forward, his clothing billowing as his fair, slender fingers struck the air.

It was just a light, airy palm strike without the slightest flourish.

By comparison, Divine Venerate Luo Heng’s palm strike was dazzlingly bright, like a mountain covering the sky. It brought with it a rain of divine light so intense that it strung the eyes. His divine majesty seemed limitless.

When he saw that Su Yi had no intention of dodging or retreating, and that he planned to meet his attack head-on, a cold smile rose unbidden to Divine Venerate Luo Heng’s lips.

Bang!!!

The two attacks collided. A terrifying current of destructive power swept out from the point of impact. Heaven and earth shook, the surrounding skies collapsed, and the mountains and rivers swayed.

It was so intense that most of the onlookers couldn’t even open their eyes. They could barely breathe, let alone resist. The shockwave sent them flying, and soon, they were all sprawled out in the dirt.

Divine Venerate Xi Yue reacted immediately, leading Xi Ning to safety further away.

Fire light swept outward, and when the dust and smoke dispersed, an unbelievable scene came into view.
