First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 2038 - Competing Invitations
Chapter 2038 - Competing Invitations
Luo Yunchao bellowed in fury. “We’re from the Kingdom of Lasting Light, and we serve the Nine Great Heavenly Gods. Do you intend to declare war against the entire kingdom!?”
Splurt!
A wisp of golden flame drifted down. It was beautiful, and it looked gentle, but in truth, it was full of strange and utterly tyrannical power. It instantly burned Luo Yunchao, the god who’d come here as a representative of the Celestial Purity Pavilion, to ash.
Only his Godhead remained perfectly intact. It blurred into a beam of light and landed in Huang Zhankong’s hand.
He opened his mouth and swallowed it, then gazed expressionlessly at Divine Monk Jade River.
Whoosh!
Divine Monk Jade River panicked and turned to flee.
“Get over here, you!” Huang Zhankong just extended his hand and grabbed, taking hold of the monk. His hands ignited with divine flames, then suddenly rubbed together. Hard.
Divine Monk Jade River’s ashes scattered to the wind; a few moments later, Huang Zhankong had devoured his Godhead, too.
From beginning to end, his movements were casual and understated. He slew the two gods as if he were simply crushing ants.
His tyrannical brutality was unquestionably far too terrifying.
“Huang Zhankong, are you trying to show off your power?”
The man in gray, Zhi Bei, fixed his cold gaze on Huang Zhankong. His eyes were like twin blue-green whirlpools.
“All I did was squash a few blind fools. How could that be considered ‘showing off?’” Huang Zhankong snickered. His gaze was utterly contemptuous; it seemed he thought that Zhi Bei, the emissary of the Ancient Upheaval Forbidden Zone, was making a mountain out of a molehill.
“They were no ordinary gods. The Nine Great Heavenly Gods of the Kingdom of Lasting Light stand behind them, and the Kingdom of Lasting Light in turn represents the will of several Master Gods of the God Domain.” The exquisitely charming woman who called herself Bi Nu said slowly, “Aren’t you afraid of bringing disaster upon the Divine Punishment Forbidden Zone?”
Huang Zhankong narrowed his eyes and coldly replied, “A turbulent storm, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the Age of the Ancient Gods, is about to descend. The natural order of all present epochs, including the Divine Dao, will soon be under attack. Given the circumstances, who’d concern themselves with something so trivial?”
With that, he turned to face Su Yi and clasped his fist in greeting once more. “Please, come with me to the Divine Punishment Forbidden Zone as our most distinguished guest. My master has arranged a sumptuous banquet in your honor. We’re all waiting for you to arrive.”
Zhi Bei and Bi Nu had both visibly lost their cool. Both of them spoke up to invite Su Yi back to their respective factions as a guest, and they stared daggers at Huang Zhankong. The situation was instantly tense.
Su Yi just stood there this entire time, watching in cold silence. Inwardly, he was pondering why all three experts of the River of Epoch’s great forbidden zones seemed so desperate to bring him back as a guest.
Just what are they after? Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s connected to my power over reincarnation and the imminent reappearance of the Path of the Ancient Gods.
That aside, they most likely know everything that happened in the Immortal Realm’s Epoch Battlefield. They must know that I am the only person of the present day who’s mastered the power of reincarnation!
“If you agree to accompany me, I guarantee that the others will not be able to interfere and that we’ll reach the Divine Punishment Forbidden Zone safely. That aside, my master said that so long as you come visit, he’ll help you fight the Master Gods of the God Domain!” said Huang Zhankong with the utmost earnestness.
“Laughable! With me here, you can forget about taking Fellow Daoist Su anywhere!” said Zhi Bei with seething murderous intent. He turned to look at Su Yi and said, “Anything Huang Zhankong offers, I can give you too. Moreover, I can promise you more than just safety. You’ll also receive rewards the likes of which you'd never expect!”
“Hmph!” The enchanting beauty, Bi Nu, snorted coldly. “Everyone knows that the Ancient Upheaval God King is an old devil who eats people alive without even bothering to spit up the bones! And you! Your Monarch of Divine Punishment isn’t any better!”
She then fixed her charming gaze on Su Yi. “I’ll speak directly. We’ve come here to invite you to our territories as a guest because of your mastery over the power of reincarnation. My Cloud Burial Forbidden Zone won’t do anything disadvantageous to you. I swear it on my Dao Heart. If I go against my vow, I’ll perish, and my Dao shall be destroyed!”
She’d obviously gone all out. First, she’d pointed the finger at the other two camps without the slightest politeness. Now, she’d gone and openly announced her intentions for inviting Su Yi. She made her stance perfectly clear, and she was incomparably direct and decisive.
But looking at it from another angle, she was frantic, too!
“Quit fighting, you too. Can’t you see that even now, Fellow Daoist Su has yet to express his opinion?” Zhi Bei said out of nowhere.
Bi Nu and Huang Zhankong furrowed their brows. It was true! Su Yi had yet to say a word, and he seemed perfectly calm.
They also suddenly realized how over-eager and rash they’d come across. It was like they were two would-be buyers haggling with a silent vendor, fighting amongst themselves.
When that happened, it was inevitably the buyers who suffered.
“Might you share your thoughts, Fellow Daoist?” Zhi Bei said warmly. The other two looked over as well.
Su Yi took out a jug of wine and smiled. “There’s no reason I can’t be your guest, but how about this? If your masters really want to see me, how about they all come to the City of the Lost? Let me be the host. I’ll be sure to welcome them. How about it?”
The three mysterious existences frowned.
Bi Nu said warmly, “You might not know this, but the time is not yet right. Our masters are unable to attend a banquet in person.”
Su Yi instantly understood. ‘The time is not yet right?’ Yeah, right. Their masters obviously just can’t leave their forbidden zones yet!
It’s like Luo Xuanji, the former ruler of the City of the Lost. If I hadn’t shattered the cursed power shackling her, she wouldn’t have been able to leave either!
Su Yi suddenly realized that the Ancient Upheaval God King, the Monarch of Divine Punishment, and the other terrifying existences were after the same thing as Luo Xuanji: using his power over reincarnation to escape confinement in their respective forbidden zones!
“That’s truly a pity,” said Su Yi. “I have important business to attend to, and I must take a trip to the Kingdom of Lasting Light. All I can do is thank your masters for their generous invitations.”
This was a polite refusal. His manners were impeccable. After all, the three of them hadn’t pushed him, and when someone was polite to him, he was polite to them in turn.
Bi Nu, Zhi Bei, and Huang Zhankong naturally understood what Su Yi was communicating. They exchanged glances, and their brows furrowed.
Zhi Bei took a deep breath and sighed. “Please don’t make this difficult for me. Master commanded me to invite you to our territory. Should I fail, he won’t let me off lightly."
Su Yi smiled and said flatly, “What do you plan to do, then?”
“Must you make me say it?” Zhi Bei’s green eyes filled with exasperation. “If push comes to shove, I’ll just have to guide you there myself.
“Do you feel the same?” Su Yi looked at Bi Nu and Huang Zhankong.
Bi Nu sighed. “Please rest assured that even if I use force, my master and I have nothing but the best of intentions, and we won’t harm you in the slightest. I’ll even apologize to you personally later.”
Huang Zhankong was even more direct. “If you think yourself strong enough to defeat me, go right ahead. Even if I lose, I’ll be able to return and report to my master. If you lose, you’ll just have to come with me as our guest. How about it?”
The atmosphere silently grew suffocating.
Su Yi wasn’t the type to sow discord or play petty tricks. Otherwise, he’d have been tempted to turn the three of them on each other.
But such tricks were easily seen through, and they’d make him seem inept. Only the weak resorted to such unseemly little schemes.
Thus, once he’d confirmed their attitudes, Su Yi said directly, “I decide where I go, and no one can force me. When I refuse to do something, no one can change my mind. That’ll be true so long as I draw breath.”
He paused, then swept his gaze across the three of them and said, “If you attack, I’ll take you as my enemies, and I won’t rest until one of us is dead. That’s my attitude on the matter. Decide your next moves for yourselves.”
The three envoys’ expressions darkened, but they were obviously quite surprised. None of them had anticipated that a young Great Realm cultivator like Su Yi would be this stubborn despite knowing their origins full well!
Admittedly, they’d come here on orders, and they invited Su Yi back to their territories politely, but that didn’t mean they really thought of him as an equal.
When Huang Zhankong slew over a thousand experts at once, he was actually putting on a show for Su Yi. He wanted Su Yi to adjust his attitude and give up all hope of wriggling his way out of this.
But it seemed shows of force weren’t effective on this young Great Realm cultivator!
“My apologies.” Zhi Bei suddenly bowed. “I cannot defy my master’s orders. I’ll just have to offend you.”

Su Yi inclined his head. “A perfectly reasonable decision. When you accept a master, you must be loyal to him.”
Zhi Bei was stunned. He wouldn’t have guessed that a young man like Su Yi would dare comment idly on him like this.
But although he didn’t know it, now that Su Yi had fused with Li Fuyou’s Dao Imprint, he could see through the three of them and their abilities at a glance!
Furthermore, Su Yi had never feared anyone; it wasn’t in his nature. He wasn’t the type to shrink back or speak in a hushed voice in front of an expert.
If he did, he would no longer be Su Yi.
“If you please!” Zhi Bei cast aside his scattered thoughts, faced Su Yi, and gestured in invitation. It seemed he wanted to duel.
Bi Nu and Huang Zhankong’s eyes flashed, but in the end, they fell silent and chose not to participate. It seemed they wanted to borrow Zhi Bei’s hands to test Su Yi’s limits.
Even if Zhi Bei defeated Su Yi, they could interfere and fight over who got to leave with their “guest.”
Boom!
Zhi Bei’s gray robes billowed around him as he lit up with strange, stinging blue-green divine radiance. Strands of it revolved around his body like wandering flood dragons.
A terrifying divine majesty made the very air itself quiver, and when it spread outward, it locked firmly onto Su Yi.
Su Yi’s eyes silently narrowed. He could sense enormous pressure bearing down on him.
But it was then that he heard a thud, and a bloody head fell from the sky and splashed into the river with a spray of red-tinged water.
The head had a hideously contorted male face with a mysterious, blood-red sun and moon marking carved on his forehead.
Zhi Bei, Huang Zhankong, and Bi Nu all looked stricken.
They recognized the owner of that head!
