Chapter 42: Chapter 42 Mind Your Past

Knowing that their daughter was betrayed, the couple was naturally furious, and besides that, they couldn’t avoid worrying and feeling heartbroken.

Seeing her mother lose her temper, Mi Jing trembled a little and said softly, "Mom, sister didn’t want you and dad to worry, so she asked me to keep it from you. It’s all Song Guotao’s fault, blame him if you have to."

"What’s the use of blaming him!" Fang Qingru covered her face with both hands and lamented.

They had scolded all they could, but to Song Guotao, it was nothing, while Mi Wan was the one who had been heartbroken!

She was, of course, angry, resentful, and full of hate, but what good would it do? Song Guotao wouldn’t suffer any losses because of it, and Mi Wan wouldn’t be spared from the hurt either.

"Mom, don’t worry. Sister can handle this on her own." Mi Jing walked over to sit beside Fang Qingru, comforting her.

"What are Wanwan’s plans?" Mi Zhihong suddenly asked, his expression serious, lacking any of his usual warmth and kindness.

"She plans to divorce Song Guotao." Mi Jing confessed frankly, knowing there was no way to keep it a secret now that the affair was out.

Divorce?

Mi Zhihong and Fang Qingru furrowed their brows simultaneously, faces full of worry, and asked, "What about Xuanxuan?"

"Of course she’ll stay with sister!" Mi Jing said as a matter of course.

"Is there no other way?" Fang Qingru grabbed Mi Jing’s hand, hesitating for a couple of seconds before asking painfully.

"What other way could there be?" Mi Jing looked directly at Fang Qingru, speaking seriously, "Mom, if it were you, would you live with a man who has another woman in his heart and never shows remorse?"

Before Fang Qingru could react, Mi Zhihong snapped, "Jingjing, how can you talk like that? Do you think your father is that kind of person?"

"No, of course not, Dad, you’re an exceptionally good man!" Mi Jing smiled and then praised him earnestly.

"That’s more like it." Mi Zhihong nodded in satisfaction, finally smiling.

Is this the time for self-admiration and self-praise?

Fang Qingru raised her hand and slapped Mi Zhihong’s thigh, her face slightly annoyed, scolding, "Stop showing off. Wanwan’s issue isn’t resolved yet!"

"Mom, let sister handle her own affairs. We just need to support her silently."

Mi Jing had already handed the photos taken last night to Mi Wan. Although she threatened Song Guotao to transfer all his assets to Mi Wan, he wasn’t a fool. After all, he was a lawyer who knew the law well and wouldn’t be easily threatened. However, her pent-up anger was somewhat relieved. She believed that Mi Wan, well-versed in the law, would make the most beneficial decisions for herself.

"Well, that’s the best we can do." Mi Zhihong sighed, his brow full of melancholy.

"Dad, don’t be upset. I believe sister will find her own happiness in the future." Mi Jing consoled him.

Hearing this, Fang Qingru’s eyes brightened up, her enthusiasm rekindled. She nodded in agreement, "Yes, I must find a better match for Wanwan. Jingjing, if you have a suitable candidate, introduce him to your sister."

Oh my god!

Her mother was at it again!

After just worrying about her own marriage, now she was rushing to find a suitable match for her sister. Wasn’t she being a bit too eager?

Thinking about the tragic blind dates she had gone through, she couldn’t help but feel sympathy for her sister, who had to experience the same.

But it was just sympathy. Since her mother had spoken, how could she refuse?

Mi Jing begrudgingly nodded, then unwillingly uttered, "Oh."

At ten o’clock in the morning, Mi Wan stepped into the private room of the coffee shop on time. Song Guotao was already there. Seeing Mi Wan enter, he immediately stood up, attentively pulling out a chair, pretending to be a gentleman, waiting for her to sit down.

But Mi Wan didn’t appreciate it. She reached out and pulled out the chair beside her, then elegantly sat down.

His attentiveness was ignored, and for a moment, a trace of anger flashed in Song Guotao’s eyes. However, he didn’t show it on his face; the anger was fleeting, then he awkwardly smiled and asked, "Wan, have you had breakfast? Order whatever you like."

Mi Wan remained silent, glancing at Song Guotao, then at the menu in front of her, but showed no interest in ordering.

Seeing this, the smile on Song Guotao’s face froze, along with his hand holding out the menu. He swallowed slowly, tentatively observing Mi Wan’s expression.

Mi Wan had a gentle personality and was always polite and courteous, even when they argued. She never shouted like a shrew. Moreover, she loved to smile, rarely showing the cold, distant demeanor she had now.

"Stop pretending. I heard everything you said to your sweetheart last night. I don’t want to continue feeling disgusted with you. If you have something to say, say it quickly!" Mi Wan didn’t look at Song Guotao, fiddling with the keychain on her bag, speaking slowly, not wanting to witness his fake humility and understanding.

Thump!

Song Guotao’s heart skipped a beat, his face turning pale.

"Wan, what I said to Chen Wenyu last night was just to flatter and boast, purely driven by male ego. Don’t take it seriously. Those weren’t my true feelings. Although I have fallen for another woman now, I did truly love you before." Knowing he was in a relatively unfavorable position, Song Guotao didn’t want to worsen things with Mi Wan, so he suppressed his resentment and unease, patiently explaining to her.

Love?

Mi Wan’s face was filled with scorn. Her eyes were cold and icy as she opened her red lips to express her contempt, "If you had any feelings for me at all, you wouldn’t have spoken so poorly of me in front of that woman! You want me to take it lightly? Heh, you must be laughing at my foolishness deep down, right? All these years, I’ve been nothing but a fool, being deceived by you!"

His harsh words echoed like demonic voices, haunting her mind all night long, countless needles piercing her heart, causing relentless pain!

She had thought it was just a matter of him falling for someone else, but the harsh reality was that she had been living in the web of lies and schemes he had woven, completely unaware. Reaching the end of their marriage, not only did she gain nothing, but she was also despised and humiliated!

Faced with this reality, how could she not take it seriously or care?

Looking into Mi Wan’s sharp eyes that seemed to see through all his thoughts, Song Guotao’s unease grew. With his brows drooping, he said helplessly, "Wan, I’m sorry. Hurting you was not my intention. I actually have my reasons. I didn’t tell you to spare you the pain."
