Flash Marriage: In His Eyes-Chapter 206: Romantic Comedy
–Laura–
I watched as Deanne took care of the remaining problems in the company alongside CEO Louie. I’m now the Chair of the company, and yeah—she’s been working hard. Caine’s been doing the same with the Blackwell Empire. Both of them turned into total workaholics. But don’t worry, I can keep up.
Still, there are a few more things I need to handle. I haven’t been very active in the office lately, but I also have charity work that needs attention. And with all the calamities happening recently, of course, we have to donate. Not just money—Livana had people deliver truckloads, even planes filled with essentials for donation. No names attached, of course. We use organizations to handle it all.
Livana hated politics, and while the Blackwell funded politicians, she wanted nothing to do with that. She’s the kindest person I’ve ever known—kind, but also savage when needed. She even sent medics and food to the survivors. But sadly, those same survivors suffered again because of corrupt politicians.
"Did you read it all?" Deanne asked.
"I thought you read it."
"I did. But you still need to."
"Anything I need to reconsider?" I turned to Louie.
"Everything’s good. I already checked it with your sister," he said, and I nodded.
Deanne sighed.
"Everything will be fine. If there’s a mess, I can handle it," I said with a grin. "Or Liva can handle it." I giggled.
"Damn," Deanne muttered, rubbing her forehead.
"You need a break, Deanne." I stood up from my seat. "I have to finish shopping so I can go back to my twins."
"Next time you get pregnant, make sure to plan it," she said with a kind yet sarcastic smile.
"Oh please, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me." I winked, and she just grunted before grabbing the documents and leaving.
"I have to go, Louie. I’m counting on you."
"You got it." Louie winked as I picked up the new purse my brother-in-law gave me.
Outside, Damien was chatting with Deanne about something or other. When he saw me, he smiled and reached out his hand. I took it, and we walked out of the building together.
Our car was waiting, guarded as usual. Once we left, we made a few stops—dates, shopping, all the crazy things I wanted. My husband’s treat, of course. He’s rich enough to spoil me endlessly. We even dined at one of his restaurants. He served me himself, and I couldn’t help but feel happy—and oddly free—after being cooped up at home for over a month.
Then I checked the nanny cam. To my surprise, Damon was sitting on the sofa in my twins’ nursery, holding his son in his arms and feeding him with a bottle.
"Just deal with the bottle for now, Sky. You need to give your mom a break," Damon said.
"It’s adorable." I chuckled and handed one of my earpods to Damien, along with my phone. He smiled as soon as he saw the screen.
We could hear Sky cooing, like he was talking back to his dad.
"Yes, finish the bottle, Sky. Your mother worked hard to pump that milk."
"Wow, the big boss is actually speaking casually to his son. No baby talk at all," Damien said, amused.
"I’ve never seen Damon this gentle with a baby," he added, watching intently.
"Well, of course. That’s his baby," I said with a teasing smile, taking another bite of food.
Then we heard Damon again: "Don’t overwork your mom. We can’t lose her, okay? Or else, it’ll be over for us."
I smiled softly. That’s just Damon’s way of talking. He really can’t live without my sister. It’s comforting to know he treats her well—no harm, no cruelty, just love. I’m glad I played a little game back then to make sure they’d keep meeting. Being his spy back in high school was honestly a lot of fun.
"Damon’s happy," Damien said, handing my phone back.
"He is. And so is my sister."
I raised my wine glass. "Cheers to us?"
"We, the bridge to their love story." He grinned as we clinked glasses.
–Jane–
The drive was exhausting. My head spun, and I ended up lying on the car floor for hours. Logan kept glancing at me every few minutes, asking if I was okay. Of course, I wasn’t.
I’d left my cats with enough food and water, praying Kai wouldn’t find out that I’d escaped.
"Jane, don’t puke in my car, okay?"
"Would it really piss you off if I did?" I asked lazily.
"Yeah."
I smirked and slowly sat up.
"Don’t you dare!" He jerked the car to a stop, panicking. "Not in my brand-new car!"
"It’s brand new?" I teased.
He unbuckled his seatbelt and crawled over me, tossing my luggage into the back. Then he pulled me into the shotgun seat, rummaged through the compartment, and triumphantly held up a plastic bag.
"Here. Use this. And I opened the window a bit—air helps. Just tell me before you actually puke, okay?"
I scoffed, still smirking.
"I’m serious, Jane."
"Relax. Just drive—and try not to make me dizzy." I reclined my seat, ignoring his worried expression.
"You know, lying down like that might make it worse," he muttered.
"I’ll be fine. If I puke, you can take care of me."
I peered into the back. "Don’t you have any cushions around here?"
"You can use my jacket."
I grabbed his hoodie, then immediately grimaced. The scent hit me—too flowery, too vanilla. Not my thing.
"What is this smell?" I asked, nose wrinkling.
"It’s fabric conditioner, dummy." He sighed and pulled something else from the compartment. "Here, a mint inhaler."
I took it gratefully and inhaled deeply. Much better. With the hoodie over my lap and the inhaler close, I closed my eyes.
"I think you’re not well," he said suddenly. "We should head back."
I shot him a deadly glare.
"Don’t you dare. After spending all that time stuffed in that bag? No. Never again. Claustrophobic hell."
He snorted. "We should do it again."
"Yeah, sure," I smirked. "Next time, I’ll put you in that bag."
By sunrise, we finally reached the facility—underground, secure, and discreet. As we entered, Logan casually slung an arm around me, muttering that Kai would find out soon anyway. Of course he would. Sophia’s probably already been notified the moment we stepped in.
I brushed his arm off, and we stopped outside Kei’s room. Inside, he was being fed by a very patient nurse. Kei, of course, was smiling at her like a flirt.
I sighed. Why do I even worry about this idiot? He was clearly enjoying being bedridden.
"Jane! Logan!" Kei greeted, flashing his charming grin at the nurse—who was not amused. She handed the tray to Logan with a cold stare.
"Feed him," she said flatly.
I crossed my arms. "Kei, that’s not how you treat women."
Logan sat down, adjusting the portable table before setting the tray in front of Kei.
"That nurse could kill you, you know," I reminded him.
"Dangerous women are sexy," he grinned.
Logan laughed, and the two of them exchanged some secret handshake I’d never seen before. I rolled my eyes.
"I shouldn’t have come," I muttered.
"We can’t leave early anyway. We’re both sleepless," Logan grinned.
I sank into the sofa, crossing my arms.
"Oh, by the way," Kei said after sipping his water, "Big Boss said to prepare in six months."
My eyes widened. Livana hadn’t called me—well, not recently. The last time she did, she told me to rest and recover. She probably still thinks I’m fragile. But I’m not. I need to work; sitting still isn’t in my nature. Damon still sends me allowances as part of the contract, but I can’t just depend on that.
"I’m perfectly fine now, Jane. Thanks for saving me," Kei continued, grinning. "And I thanked Dr. White too. Wow, she’s gorgeous."
I sighed. "Mmh. I’ll check in with Dr. White. I’ll confine myself in the other room."
I dragged myself up lazily and walked out. The nurses looked surprised.
"Miss Jane?"
"I’m going to sleep. Anyone using this room?"
They smiled politely. "Don’t worry, Miss Jane. Rest as long as you need."
I kicked off my shoes, lay flat, and murmured, "Thank you." They turned off the lights.
Just as I was drifting off, the door slid open. Logan.
"Hey, wanna grab some donuts?" he whispered.
"Nah. Leave me alone."
I turned my back, expecting him to go. But I heard his footsteps again—and the mattress dipped.
He pushed me slightly. "Scoot over. The bed’s small."
I groaned, trying to shove him off, but he barely budged. "What the hell, Logan?"
"Relax," he said, holding out his phone. "It’s Livana."
That made me sit up. I grabbed his phone.
"Hi, Jane."
"Liva?"
"Yes, it’s me. Listen, I need you back here by next week. Leave Kei to Kai and Sophia. There’s something I need you to settle."
I glanced at Logan. "Do I have to take this idiot with me?"
Livana laughed, sounding genuinely happy.
