Chapter 128: Chapter 128: I Won’t Dine Alone With Any Woman Except My Wife

At eleven in the morning, the staff of the president’s office had a meeting and went to the conference room downstairs.

The entire thirtieth floor was eerily quiet.

At eleven forty, Silas Sheffield sent a message.

[You can come up now.]

The lunch break was at twelve, but Silas asked her to come up early.

Clara Sterling stood up and prepared to head over.

"Clara, where are you going?" Lisa Holloway suddenly asked.

Clara Sterling gave her a look and whispered, "I can’t have lunch with you today."

Lisa instantly understood, smiled, and gestured "OK" with her hand, "Got it."

Clara Sterling had just reached the elevator hall when she ran into Julian Hawthorne coming out of the elevator.

"President Hawthorne," Clara Sterling greeted with a smile.

"Mm." Julian Hawthorne nodded and walked past her.

Since the misunderstanding during the last 520 confession incident, they had returned to their original social distance.

Julian Hawthorne seemed unaffected, and the matter seemed to have passed for him.

Clara Sterling pressed the up button and stood at the door waiting for the elevator.

She didn’t notice Julian Hawthorne glance back at her.

Seeing her press the up button, Julian Hawthorne frowned slightly as if contemplating something.

Clara Sterling arrived on the thirtieth floor, puzzled to find it entirely empty.

Where was everyone?

Half of the thirtieth floor was Silas Sheffield’s presidential office, and the other half was the office area for the secretaries and assistants of the president’s office.

Last time Clara Sterling came, everyone in the office area was busy, with phone calls and typing everywhere.

Today, there wasn’t a single person.

With a sense of wonder, Clara Sterling pushed open the door to Silas Sheffield’s office.

Silas Sheffield was sitting on the sofa in the resting area, a table full of food in front of him.

Judging by the bag next to it, it had the logo of a nearby five-star hotel.

"Silas."

"Mm."

Silas Sheffield looked up, his eyes filled with tenderness.

Clara Sterling walked over, intending to sit next to him, but he pulled her onto his lap.

Clara Sterling instinctively shifted a bit.

Silas Sheffield wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin lightly on her shoulder, his voice low and magnetic but slightly weary, "There’s no one here, let me hold you."

Clara Sterling stopped moving, letting Silas Sheffield hold her.

Silas Sheffield’s hands were around her waist, and through the fabric of her clothes, she could feel the heat from his palms.

Silas Sheffield had been very busy these days, with many major projects at the Crestwood headquarters requiring his decisions. He had even attended a board meeting and a shareholder meeting at Crestwood a few days ago.

Silas Sheffield had once said that the old guys on the board were all tough to deal with.

He must be very tired these days.

Clara Sterling sat quietly on Silas Sheffield’s lap, not moving, letting him hold her.

Silas Sheffield remained silent, holding Clara Sterling, his entire being relaxed.

Time seemed to stop at that moment.

The faint woody scent, clean and pleasant, from the man lingered around Clara Sterling’s nose. She closed her eyes, taking a light breath and savoring Silas Sheffield’s warmth and scent.

After a while, Clara Sterling broke the silence herself.

"Silas, you’ve been very tired these past few days, right?"

"Mm." Silas Sheffield’s chin was still resting on Clara Sterling’s shoulder, "Seeing you makes me not tired anymore."

Clara Sterling’s heart felt sweet as if dusted with sugar.

"By the way, when I came earlier, the office area outside was empty. Where did everyone go?" Clara Sterling asked.

"They’re having a meeting in the conference room downstairs."

"You didn’t arrange the meeting just so I could come up and have lunch with you, did you?"

"No." Silas Sheffield’s voice was calm, saying that today was a scheduled meeting day anyway.

"Oh, I see."

As they were chatting, the office door suddenly opened.

"Silas, want to have lunch together?" Thea Tate walked in, a smile on her face.

However, upon seeing the scene inside the office, Thea Tate’s smile froze.

"Sorry for interrupting." Thea Tate’s expression faintly darkened, her words apologetic while a chill flashed in her eyes.

"From now on, knock before entering." Silas Sheffield’s gaze was as sharp as a cold blade.

"Okay." Thea Tate felt a bit embarrassed, standing there watching the man she adored holding another woman.

Thea Tate’s nails dug into her palm, a heavy pain in her chest.

Clara Sterling thought of getting up upon seeing Thea, but Silas Sheffield held her tighter, "Don’t move, let me hold you a little longer."

He didn’t mind in the slightest that Thea was watching them, as if Thea was just air.

Thea Tate turned pale, apologized again, and was about to leave.

"Wait a minute." Silas Sheffield called out to her.

Thea Tate stopped in her tracks, her back facing Silas Sheffield, a sliver of hope emerging in her heart, hoping Silas would ask her to stay for lunch.

She had come here today just to have lunch with Silas Sheffield.

But instead, she heard Silas coldly say, "From now on, call me President Sheffield in the company, and I won’t have lunch with any woman other than my wife alone."

Thea Tate’s face turned even uglier, her nails digging deeper into her palm. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Got it, President Sheffield."

Silas Sheffield responded indifferently, "Mm."

Thea Tate couldn’t stay for even a second longer, leaving in embarrassment.

After she left, Clara Sterling got off Silas Sheffield’s lap and sat beside him.

Her tone was tinged with jealousy, sarcastically mimicking Thea, "Silas, want to have lunch together?"

Silas Sheffield was amused by her, a gentle laugh in his chest, his voice soft with a hint of laughter, like a gentle spring breeze, "Are you jealous?"

"No." Clara Sterling denied, "I just think she has a lot of nerve, knowing you’re a married man but still coming to you for lunch. Was she always like this?"

Silas Sheffield’s eyes shimmered with amusement, "How long ago are we talking about?"

"Since I joined the company until today."

"She did ask me for lunch before, I turned her down."

"How many times did she ask you?"

"Twice."

Clara Sterling snorted and muttered, "She’s really thick-skinned, getting rejected twice and still trying."

After a pause, Clara Sterling said sourly, "President Sheffield really is charming."

"Didn’t I just reject her explicitly enough just now?" Silas Sheffield said, "After seeing that scene, she shouldn’t bother anymore."

Clara Sterling glared at Silas Sheffield with her pretty eyes, "So you asked me to come up just to turn her down?"

"No, I just missed you," Silas Sheffield answered honestly.
