Chapter 181: Chapter 181: I’m Not Even Close With Him

When Silas Sheffield got home, Clara Sterling had just finished her shower.

"You’re back?" Clara leaned against the headboard, her legs propped up, with a tablet on her knees.

She was reviewing experimental data and documents sent by Warren Cheney.

"Yeah." Silas walked in with his long legs wrapped in suit pants, pulling off his tie with his cool, pale hand. "At the graduation ceremony, come on stage with me for the ribbon-cutting."

"Huh?" Clara looked up, confusion flashing across her face. "What ribbon-cutting?"

"I’m donating a building to Crestwood U." Silas removed his tie and casually hung it on the rack. "At your graduation ceremony, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony, and I want you to join me on stage as the Sheffield CEO’s wife for the ribbon-cutting."

Clara was stunned for a moment. "Why did you suddenly think of donating a building to Crestwood U?"

"Crestwood U is your alma mater."

"..." Clara was momentarily at a loss for words.

It’s her alma mater, so what?

Just because Crestwood U is her alma mater, he’s donating a building? Isn’t this like throwing money around for no reason?

Suddenly, something flashed through her mind.

Clara raised her eyes, suspiciously looking at him. "You wouldn’t happen to be donating a building because Julian Hawthorne donated ten million to Crestwood U, would you?"

Silas didn’t deny it, sitting down by the bed. "Is that not allowed?"

"..." Clara felt that Silas’s jealousy was particularly childish, like a little kid.

"Why are you competing with him? His donation has nothing to do with me."

"It does," Silas’s dark eyes were deep, like a dark pond with no bottom. "He donated because of you. I checked; he doesn’t have any friends studying at Crestwood U."

Clara was at a loss for words.

For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

Could Julian really have donated to Crestwood U because of her?

Thinking of running into him by the lake earlier, he hadn’t mentioned anything.

Clara still found it hard to believe. "How could that be... that’s ten million, not a thousand or ten thousand. No one would spend that for me, especially since I’m not close to him."

The last sentence, "I’m not close to him," was right up Silas’s alley.

The coldness in the man’s eyes dissipated, and a smile spread across his deep eyes.

He leaned over, his cool, thin lips gently pressing a kiss to her forehead. "The school invited Julian Hawthorne to the groundbreaking ceremony."

Clara replied expressionlessly with a "Hmm."

"You don’t have anything to say?"

Clara chuckled. "What should I say? As a donor to Crestwood U, it’s normal for them to invite him."

That answer was satisfactory to Silas.

A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he stood up. "I’ll go take a shower first."

"Okay."

The sound of water came from the bathroom as Clara became a bit lost in thought.

Was Julian really donating to Crestwood U because of her?

It didn’t make sense.

He already knows she’s married, the wife of the Sheffield CEO, and shouldn’t do something that could easily be misconstrued.

Maybe Silas was overthinking it. Julian might just be making a donation, and with all the money he has, he can donate to whoever he wants, perhaps just for charity’s sake and a good reputation.

Clara shook her head, deciding not to dwell on it anymore.

It was none of her business anyway.

She discarded her miscellaneous thoughts and continued reviewing the experimental materials.

...

On the day of the graduation ceremony, Clara woke up early.

Silas had hired a professional makeup artist to come to their home for her.

If she were just attending the graduation ceremony, she wouldn’t need to be so formal.

But she had another task today: to join Silas on stage as the Sheffield CEO’s wife for the ribbon-cutting.

The black Maybach parked at Crestwood U’s main entrance.

Clara and Silas got out of the car together.

Today she wore a black haute couture dress beneath a wide yellow bachelor’s robe.

Silas donned a deep black tailored suit, maintaining his cool and elegant aura.

Next to the Maybach, a black Rolls-Royce Phantom slowly pulled up.

Grandmother Susan Saxon and Sophie Sheffield got out of the car.

"Silas, Clara." Susan walked over with a smile. "Grandma came to attend Clara’s graduation ceremony too."

"Brother, Clara." Sophie handed over a bouquet with a smile. "Clara, congratulations on graduating!"

"Thank you." Clara accepted the flowers.

Sophie glanced at her watch. "The graduation ceremony is about to start, let’s go."

"Alright."

"Clara, Silas, wait a moment." Someone called from behind them.

Clara turned to see Zeke Sheffield and Joanne Quincy arriving too, surprised. "Dad, Mom."

Zeke and Joanne were usually busy, managing the Sheffield’s overseas businesses with Rose Sheffield.

Rose had left a few days ago.

But Zeke and Joanne hadn’t yet departed.

"My parents were supposed to return to Country S a few days ago with my aunt, but they postponed their plans just to attend your graduation." Sophie explained with a cheerful smile.

Warmth flooded Clara’s heart.

Her mother, Yvonne Sterling, was far away in Veridian and unable to attend due to health issues.

But Silas’s parents and grandmother were here.

She felt the Sheffield Family’s importance on her, deeply moved.

Just then, another vehicle pulled up in front of them.

"Second Aunt, Third Aunt, what brings you here?" Clara’s eyes gleamed with surprise.

"To attend your graduation, of course." Michelle Morgan handed her a gift with a smile. "Clara, congratulations on graduating!"

"Thank you, Second Aunt." Clara accepted the gift.

"Clara, I also brought you a gift, plus this bouquet is for you." Victoria Yeats handed over a luxury bag and a bouquet of sunflowers with a warm smile.

"Thank you, Third Aunt."

Clara had her hands full, so Silas helped her hold them.

Victoria then took out a box. "And this is a gift from your aunt. She’s already in Country S and asked me to pass it on to you."

"The ceremony starts at nine, right?" Michelle asked.

Clara replied, "Yes, we’re just about to head over."

"Let’s go together."

With the gifts and flowers being cumbersome to carry around, Clara left them in the car, planning to have them brought over when she needed them for photos.

The graduation ceremony was held in the school’s auditorium, primarily consisting of speeches from school and faculty leaders.

It lasted about an hour.

A group photo session started at ten.

After the photo session, it was free activity time.

Clara hadn’t expected Second Aunt and Third Aunt to come to her graduation as well.

Their large family group attracted a lot of attention on their way there.

Previously, Silas had attended Clara’s class reunion, and their announcement video had trended online for a while, so many at Crestwood University recognized them.

Some students even pulled out their phones to take pictures.

Silas not only didn’t stop them, he even cooperated by looking into the camera, ensuring that they captured a good shot of his face.

Along the way, Grandmother chuckled and said, "Your two uncles are busy with work meetings, otherwise, they’d be here for your graduation too."
