Flash Marriage With Mr. Sheffield: Go Away, Cheap Man!-Chapter 194: You Are the One Silas Cherishes Most
"Back then they were deeply in love." As he spoke of this, Silas Sheffield’s gaze dimmed, "But a year after my mom passed away, my dad started a relationship with Auntie Quincy."
Silas Sheffield’s voice was indifferent, "I don’t doubt the love between them, but people do change."
Silas Sheffield was right, people do change.
When they are in love, it’s genuine, but when the love is gone, it’s truly gone.
Clara Sterling listened to Silas Sheffield recount the story of his parents.
Thinking of Zeke Sheffield, a young man raised in luxury, willingly working hard on the farm for Silas Sheffield’s mother without a word of complaint.
Someone who loved Sharon Sherman so deeply, could Zeke Sheffield really change his heart so quickly?
Clara Sterling thought about Silas Sheffield’s attitude toward Zeke Sheffield, always distant and cool.
She used to think it was due to Silas Sheffield’s personality, distant and cool toward everyone.
Now, perhaps it was because Zeke Sheffield remarried soon after Silas Sheffield’s mother passed away, leaving a scar in Silas Sheffield’s heart.
Clara Sterling expressed her doubt, "Did you ever have a deep conversation with your father, asking him why he changed his heart so quickly back then?"
Silas Sheffield said he was only two years old when Zeke Sheffield and Joanne Quincy started dating, and just three when Zeke Sheffield remarried.
She had previously heard Silas Sheffield mention that Joanne Quincy treated him well.
Even without Silas Sheffield saying it, Clara Sterling could tell from how Joanne Quincy interacted with him that she treated Silas Sheffield as if he were her own son.
Joanne Quincy had previously been very enthusiastic in finding him a partner, arranging blind dates, and worrying about his future.
And the blind dates Joanne Quincy arranged were all carefully selected, good family backgrounds, looks, personalities, and abilities, all very suitable for Silas Sheffield.
Joanne Quincy did not have any of the traits of a wicked stepmother.
The family atmosphere at their home was always very harmonious.
Clara Sterling had a suspicion.
Could it be that Zeke Sheffield married Joanne Quincy to give Silas Sheffield a complete family, to let him feel a mother’s love?
After all, Silas Sheffield was very young then, and really needed a mother’s presence.
As the elder of the Sheffield Family, overseeing the entire Sheffield Group, Zeke Sheffield was busy with work and seldom able to be with Silas Sheffield.
Men raising children just aren’t as attentive as women, and the love a mother gives can’t simply be replaced by hiring a nanny.
Although Joanne Quincy was a stepmother, as long as she was sincerely good to Silas Sheffield, it could somewhat make up for the lack of a mother’s love.
"No," Silas Sheffield’s voice was cold, "That’s his business, nothing to do with me. When he married Auntie Quincy, I was only three years old, I couldn’t interfere with anything."
"Have you ever thought that maybe your dad remarried for you?" Clara Sterling voiced her guess.
Silas Sheffield lowered his gaze, saying nothing.
What Clara Sterling suggested might be plausible, but he hadn’t asked Zeke Sheffield about it, nor did he want to.
"This question has no meaning for me now. Whether he did it for me or himself, I don’t want to delve into it." Silas Sheffield said calmly.
Hearing him say that, Clara Sterling knew he didn’t want to discuss it anymore, so she didn’t pursue the topic.
"Let’s sleep. I’m a bit tired now." Clara Sterling tucked the quilt, kissed Silas Sheffield’s cheek gently, "Good night."
"Good night."
...
Knowing Silas Sheffield and Clara Sterling had returned to Veridian, Kevin Kensington arranged a gathering at the upscale private dining club "The Evening Bloom Pavilion." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Silas Sheffield drove the car into the courtyard, and Clara Sterling got out to enter together.
As they entered the private room, Kevin Kensington was standing at the door talking to Ethan Fuller.
Seeing her, Kevin Kensington exclaimed exaggeratedly, "Oh dear!"
"Sis-in-law, hearing about your accident really scared us! Unfortunately, I was on a business trip abroad recently, and Ethan Fuller had his hands full with two tricky cases, so we couldn’t visit you in Crestwood. Now that we know you’re back in Crestwood, I quickly arranged this dinner gathering to welcome you back."
He’s always good at saying pleasing words, Clara Sterling smiled with her eyes curved, "It’s okay, I understand you’re busy."
Kevin Kensington grinned, showing his white teeth, "I said sis-in-law is considerate and empathetic."
Kevin Kensington is cheerful and carefree, while Ethan Fuller seems much more steady in comparison. He asked in a calm voice, "How’s your recovery? There shouldn’t be any major issues now, right?"
Clara Sterling replied, "Recovering well, nearly recovered actually, but I still need to watch my diet over the next few days."
"That’s good," Ethan Fuller said, "Order according to your taste, don’t worry about us."
"No way," Clara Sterling smiled, "Order whatever you like, I’ll just pick a couple of light dishes."
Throughout the meal, Kevin Kensington and Ethan Fuller took great care of Clara Sterling.
Even though Clara Sterling had said they should order whatever they wanted without fully accommodating her.
But after Clara Sterling ordered two light dishes and handed the menu to Ethan Fuller, both he and Kevin Kensington largely chose light dishes, and both meat and vegetables were those Clara Sterling liked.
When the dishes were served, Clara Sterling noticed the whole table was filled with light dishes suitable for her, her hand holding the chopsticks paused for a moment.
Thinking that Ethan Fuller and Kevin Kensington probably asked Silas Sheffield in advance about her preferences and dietary restrictions.
Clara Sterling smiled slightly, "Thank you."
"Come on, sis-in-law, don’t be so courteous with us," Kevin Kensington laughed, "You’re the one Silas holds dear, Ethan Fuller and I have grown up together with him, closer than brothers, treat us as family."
Ethan Fuller agreed, "He’s right."
Clara Sterling felt moved; all of Silas Sheffield’s friends knew how much he cared for her, loved her.
So their attitude towards her was extra warm and friendly, taking care of her in every aspect, including such small details.
They wouldn’t look down on or ignore her because she came from a different background or wasn’t from the same social class.
All of this was because of Silas Sheffield.
His love indeed stood the test.
Clara Sterling suddenly recalled that night in the private room when Isaac Sutton and his gang sneered behind her back, claiming she wasn’t worthy of Isaac Sutton.
Those people, their words filled with superiority, disdain, and belittling of her.
Despite all being rich offspring, Silas Sheffield and his friends were worlds apart from Isaac Sutton and his crowd.
Clara Sterling curved her lips, "Alright then, I won’t be polite with you two from now on."
