Flash Marriage With Mr. Sheffield: Go Away, Cheap Man!-Chapter 97: Bombshell
The Spencer Family?
Clara immediately thought of Anabelle upon hearing that surname.
Anabelle is from Ardendale, comes from a good family, and last time at dinner, she drove a Porsche 911. Her clothes are all designer brands.
She wonders if Anabelle is from the same "Spencer Family" that the uncle mentioned.
She can ask when she wakes up.
Clara continued to walk a bit forward and saw a row of black Maybachs parked on the open space below the steps, which was the convoy that just drove in from the Spencer Family.
Clara stood at a distance, watching the old lady from the Spencer Family being helped out of the car.
The elderly woman wore a dark green silk qipao, her silver-white hair slightly curled, with a rosy complexion, looking well. The emerald gemstone on her neck sparkled, and her wrist bore excellent quality, translucent jade.
The man helping the old lady was donned in a suit, tall and upright, appearing to be in his fifties. His hair was combed meticulously, exuding an aura of authority and non-threatening dignity.
Beside him was a woman also wearing a qipao, with a wave hairstyle, adorned with pearl earrings and a pearl necklace, looking opulent.
A newcomer to Ardendale like Clara was surprised and asked, "What’s the background of those people ahead?"
A helpful bystander replied, "That old lady is the Spencer Family matriarch, the man in the suit is her eldest son, Aaron Spencer, the current head of the Spencer Family, and the woman beside him is his wife."
A young girl exclaimed, "Wow, that middle-aged uncle is so handsome, he hasn’t gained weight at all."
A local from Ardendale chimed in, "Wealthy people pay a lot of attention to maintenance and body management. You haven’t seen his brother, Adrian Spencer, he’s the real talk of the uncle community, cultured and charismatic, over forty looking just like thirty."
The bystander commented, "These wealthy folks are not people we can just meet whenever we want."
"Look at their travel entourage, five Maybachs leading the way."
Clara listened to the chatter of the bystanders.
Suddenly, a local guy said, "Actually, the Spencer Family isn’t that high-profile. This temple was jointly funded by the three major families of Ardendale: the Spencer Family, Montague Family, and Hawthorne Family. The other two are even more high-profile; when people from Montague Family and Hawthorne Family come to pray, they clear the venue in advance."
"Clear the venue? Such a big setup?"
"Exactly, the Spencer Family often hits the headlines and gets interviewed, but people from Hawthorne Family have never appeared in the media, we ordinary people have no chance to see them."
"Speaking of the Hawthorne Family, I have a senior who’s particularly beautiful, like the belle of the department. She dated a guy from Fourth Young Master Hawthorne’s circle and once saw Fourth Young Master Hawthorne at a party. She said he’s even more handsome than top male stars!"
"Really? Is he that handsome? Any photos?"
"No, at that level, no one dares to secretly photograph him."
Clara listened but didn’t take it seriously.
The temple steps had been blocked, with three bodyguards in black suits standing on each side.
The Spencer Family matriarch was helped up the steps by her eldest son and daughter-in-law, her figure disappearing from Clara’s sight.
A bystander lamented, "Oh, it’s really unlucky today, happened to encounter the Spencer Family matriarch’s prayer session, have to wait until they finish praying before we can go in."
Clara asked, "Brother, how long does it usually take for the Spencer Family matriarch to pray?"
The man replied, "About half an hour."
Clara nodded, "Thank you."
Half an hour isn’t long, just the time for a game.
Since she came all this way, wouldn’t going without looking be in vain?
Clara found a bench nearby to sit on, took out her phone ready to play a game to pass the time until the Spencer Family finished praying.
Just as she opened her phone, Silas Sheffield called.
Clara answered, "Hey, Silas."
"It’s quite noisy over there, where are you?" Silas asked.
"It’s my first time in Ardendale and I thought to stroll around, currently at Spirit Peak Temple."
"Spirit Peak Temple?"
"Yes, heard it’s quite effective in wishing for love, came to take a look."
Silas chuckled, "You’re already married, do you still need to wish for love?"
"Yes, for our love to go smoothly."
Upon hearing this, Silas couldn’t help but smile, "Have you wished yet?"
"Later, now the Spencer Family matriarch is praying, will go in after she’s done."
Silas’s tone changed, "The Spencer Family matriarch?"
"Yes, actually, you should know the Spencer Family. I heard from bystanders that the Spencer Family is a well-known family in Ardendale."
"Clara, some tasks have been added last minute for the exhibition tomorrow. Head back now, I’ll arrange a car for you."
"Ah? I just got some free time, thought to stroll around."
Silas softly coaxed, "Be good, come back first, I’ll take you for a walk next time."
Clara pouted, "Alright then."
Clara returned to the hotel, and as she entered the lobby, she saw Assistant Lynch waiting at the side.
Zachary smiled as he approached, speaking softly, "Madam, these are the tasks added for tomorrow. The President asked me to give them to you."
With no outsiders around, Zachary didn’t need to pretend, addressing her directly as "Madam."
Clara took the file and looked through it, frowning, "Really, this small matter could have been discussed over the phone, did I have to be called back specifically?"
Zachary smiled, "Perhaps the President misses you."
"..." Clara was speechless, "I’m not going to him."
She’d gone once today and the man had taken everything; her legs were still a bit sore, she dared not go again.
Clara returned to her room, Anabelle was still sleeping.
Clara put on headphones and nestled in the sofa watching a drama.
Anabelle slept until six in the afternoon, and walked out with a head of messy hair. Seeing Clara huddled on the sofa, she sleepily asked, "What time is it?"
Clara glanced at her phone’s time and replied, "Six o’clock, just in time to have dinner. Are you hungry?"
Anabelle nodded, "I’m hungry, let me wash up and we can go out together."
"Okay."
After Anabelle freshened up and came out of the bathroom, Clara suddenly asked, "Anabelle, do you know the Spencer Family in Ardendale?"
"Hmm?" Anabelle paused in her steps, "Why did you suddenly ask about this?"
"I just went to Spirit Peak Temple and happened to see the Spencer Family matriarch praying. I heard the Spencer Family is one of the major families in Ardendale, and since your last name is Spencer too, I thought I’d ask."
Anabelle came over and sat on the sofa, looking normal as she said, "Actually, I’m part of the Spencer Family. I originally planned to tell you at the birthday party next Saturday, but I didn’t expect you to guess it."
Clara’s eyes showed shock, "You’re really the Spencer Family’s young lady?"
"Yes, the Spencer Family matriarch you saw today is my grandmother, today it’s my uncle and aunt accompanying my grandmother to pray."
"So your dad is the Spencer Family’s second son?"
"Yes." Anabelle nodded, "In fact, there’s one more thing that you probably don’t know and will surprise you."
"What?" Clara vaguely guessed a bit.
The bystanders mentioned the Hawthorne Family today.
Anabelle is the young lady from the Spencer Family in Ardendale, why does she happen to be working as Julian Hawthorne’s assistant?
Could it be...
Anabelle dropped a bombshell, "President Hawthorne is actually Fourth Young Master Hawthorne."
Clara’s eyes widened suddenly.
Anabelle’s next sentence was an even bigger bombshell.
"My family intends to forge a marriage alliance with the Hawthorne Family. Yes, that’s right, they want me to marry Julian Hawthorne."
