Chapter 175: 175. Meeeaah

Henry’s POV

The orange-haired woman patted my hand.

"No need to be nervous; you are their dad. They missed you."

She seemed to misunderstand my hesitation. Under Mrs. Howard’s amused eyes, I exited the car and first spoke to the driver, who was already standing outside.

"Bring that black-haired girl to one of the free rooms."

He nodded, and I was relieved that I didn’t have to touch her again. Each time I did, Kenny’s countless stab wounds would pop into my head, and I was unable to guarantee Henrietta’s safety. Carrying her up a staircase would be too much of a temptation, so if the free rooms were upstairs, it would be better if someone else took her there.

"Daddy!" The six-year-old girl ran to me, hugging me. She was wearing a black and white dress with a big ribbon around her neck. She looked what people would probably call adorable.

Fuck, I am nineteen years old; where the hell should I have a six-year-old daughter? The son was at least younger and probably less needy.

I hugged her back and patted her head.

"How have you been?"

"I missed you!"

"Yes, I missed you too." I pressed my lips together, asking myself if this would be enough hugging for a reunited father and daughter. But she didn’t let go.

I looked helplessly at Kenny’s grandmother, and she grimaced at the scene before turning and walking to the house as if it were her own.

No, it’s good like this. I have the one able to open the portals, and I have Kenny’s grandma. Those two key people are here; the rest, like my parents and the other survivors, would soon follow.

I peeled the girl away from me and saw Maxi with her son in her arms, running after Mrs. Howard, who stormed into the house.

"Did you bring something for me, Daddy?" The girl took my hand and walked beside me. It wouldn’t look good if I shook it off, so I let her.

"I’m sorry; I didn’t."

"Why?"

"What do you want to have?"

"A monster tooth."

"...Did I bring you stuff like that in the past?"

"Yes." She nodded with enthusiasm.

"Do you... collect these things?"

"Yes."

Is a father bringing his daughter the teeth of monsters he slayed a good father or a bad father?

We entered the house, and I noticed that Maxi was still busy running after Mrs. Howard, who was just opening random doors.

"Mrs...?! Not that room; that is my husband’s office! Can you please come down with me? Do you want some tea?"

Just at the right time. I walked up the open staircase after discreetly letting go of the kid’s hand and turned to the room Maxi was now protecting with her body, still holding the kid on her arm.

This kid wasn’t as orange-haired as it had first seemed; he was more of a dark blonde, and his eyes were honey brown. With a bit of imagination, they could appear reddish-brown.

That one didn’t seem so bad.

"I’ll take him." I said, and Maxi handed her son to me.

Babies smell really good, but it is probably just because of all the baby powder. I carried the little one inside, hearing Maxi guide Mrs. Howard back down.

The kid was around one or two years old. I sat in front of the computer and held him on my lap.

"Now we have to find out more." I mumbled to the kid, who behaved very well.

I doubt Kenny was so well-behaved as a little kid. I can imagine him running around and breaking stuff, smirking if caught, and getting away with it each time because of his boyish charm.

I started the computer and found that I could unlock it with a fingerprint as well. That was really practical. There were countless documents, but I began reading through the dungeon reports.

There were also pictures attached, of the landscapes and monsters they found there. If going by the dates, there are up to two dungeons a year. None of these dungeons had repeated themselves. Instead, there were fantastical monsters, right out of a movie or fantasy novel. Variations that could indicate they came from animals or that had at least some similarity, but also beings that had nothing to do with anything we humans know.

An example was a dungeon with light spheres—shimmering, small, thin light walls that stood on a watery surface. These spheres didn’t attack or swallow anyone; no one had any idea what exactly they were. Yet, they bombed that place, and in this way, the dungeon was cleared.

Kenny’s words echoed in my head. That he didn’t have a good feeling about us killing our counterparts and seeing the report about this sphere world, I could only agree. These things didn’t do a thing, and neither did any other life form. Of the over thirty dungeons in the last twenty years, there were only eight that had monsters crossing into this world. The rest didn’t attack first.

This was about humans infiltrating worlds and burning them down. If they had just used that intelligence and money to figure out how to close the portals, they would have probably found a way by now.

But more importantly, if a world like this met ours, wouldn’t they just clear it out, like they did with every other dungeon? Would it be better if we destroyed this world before leaving so that they wouldn’t have the chance to do the same with us?

"Meeeah." The little one on my lap protested, and I stroked his head.

"Yeah. The boss wouldn’t like it either." We had to flee this world, but we had to do so quietly, maybe taking a few weapons and bombs with us, as they were surely more developed than ours. We had to be ready to fight this world, should they come at us first. Then they would leave us with no other choice.

"WHO ARE YOU?" A female scream came from outside.

Would you look at that; the princess is awake.

"Meeeah." The little one complained again, and I could only chime in.

"Yeah. Meeeah."
